So..is a stupid dance number in the credits the norm for sentai?
Finally got around to starting Kyuuranger, which I've been fairly interested in but haven't taken the time to start watching and I just finished the first episode only to be greeted in the credits by the same kinda thing that turned me off of Kyoryuger and Zyuohger and such the last couple times I tried getting into Super Sentai. It's not as bad as it was with Kyoryuger because at least it is only during the credits and not a focus of the show, so it won't likely keep me from giving the season a fair shot, and I know that Sentai is aimed a bit more at kids than Kamen Rider, but is this just like..a thing with the series I wasn't really aware of? It's absolutely obnoxious.

Frequently this is the case, yes.

Yeah it's the norm, I can't really think of a recent season that hasn't had a fun dance number as an ending.
|
Pretty much. They've been happening on and off since Kakuranger, even earlier then that if you want to get technical, but it wasn't until Go-Busters that they became more or less mandatory no matter what the actual theme or tone of the series was. Toqger is the only season since Go-Busters to not have a dance ending. That show had a bunch of train trivia instead.

I really don't see a reason to hate on the dance ending credits. The purpose of ending themes in Japan is to pull you out of the show and that is exactly what the dancing scenes do. It relieves you of that energy the show built up in your system.
Dance scenes have been around for a long time, perhaps since Kakuranger. |
It's thee norm for most Japanese kids shows really.

Ever since Abaranger it became the norm. Exceptions would be Boukenger, Shinkenger, Gokaiger, and ToQger last I recall.

How many of them showed home videos of children dancing with the songs? I don't mean crowds dancing with Rangers I mean actual recorded videos submitted to the show and played over the main dancing theme like in Kyoryuger.

@Topic: I'm not a huge fan of those segments either but the songs are surprisingly catchy most of the time so I don't mind watching it. |

The last one that didn't do the dance was Gokaiger.

Honestly forget they do this sometimes because I rarely like the outro song and just skip it most of the time.

Kyutama Dancing is great (though less great after they got rid of the thrusting) and I will not hear otherwise.
Was Kakuranger the first with end credit dancing? It's the oldest show I've seen with it. |

Kyuranger's ending dance package is lit! On the other hand though, as much as I loved Zyuohger as a series, I couldn't get fully used to their ending sequence, lol.

The dancing end themes was actually done sometimes, but not all the time until Go-Busters, which is what started them doing it all the time. Looking back at the list of Sentai, after Kakuranger started it, there weren't any more for a few seasons, then a few in a row, it alternated a bit, then a bunch in a row with no dancing before GoBusters caused it to become the norm. |
