They are probably going out with a bang before they put Sentai on hiatus.

160 Sentai heroes grouped into 32 teams of 5 will fight amongst themselves to determine the strongest team. There are teams like Team Oddball, Team Land and Sea, etc. Team Oddball are the main team, they're characters who have rich personalities out of suit. The battles can take place in 1 v 1, tag team, or any variety of format.

It's 4 part series that begins on February 17th, meaning Lupinranger vs Patranger will run 51 episodes.

So they're cutting LuPat short and air... "Super Sentai Battle Royale" instead? Huh.

Okay, I gotta ask: Where is this "Sentai is doomed"-talk coming from all of a sudden? I’ve seen more and more comments like this once the new season got revealed. Do people really think Sentai is dead because they’re reusing the dinosaur-theme or is something else going on I missed entirely?

Basically a thread on 4chan/one of the other image boards had somebody make two posts about "insider" stuff on Sentai and Rider.

The posts were accompanied by screenshots of a new Cross-Z New World trailer with a date and time the trailer would be posted online, which turned out to be true. They revealed that Ryuusouger would be based around Dinosaurs and battleships and start in March with a special in febuary featuring Marvelous and other returning actors. This post also said that Sentai is on thin ice and needs to preform better (as good as ToQGer) then the last 4 years to stay on the air.

Sentai won't die instantly and just disappear, but with this special being confirmed and almost everything in the posts being true it is safe to assume Sentai is on thin ice and we're gonna be playing the safe game.

This special is airing on February 17th, indicating that Lupat might run for 51 episodes.

The leak that stated that Ryusouger was going to have a dinosaur theme also stated it was because Sentai is going through some really hard financial situations, as well stating that this Sentai special was going to happen. While it is a leak and thus should be taken with skepticism, the fact it predicted both Ryusouger's theme and this special does give it some credibility.

Yeah, this seems to be delaying Ryuso, not cutting LuPat short at all.

And this isn't quite what people were expecting but it's a special and Captain Marvelous is there so rumour confirmed

Also, 3 reds, an orange and a pink? Did the future Deboth teach you nothing?

If it's a tournament to determine the strongest ever shouldn't there be around 80 to 90 more rangers than 160?

On the one hand, Yamato, Kagura, Marvy-chan and Stinger.

But on the other hand, Takaharu.

Also, unless Lupinranger VS Patranger takes more than one week off between now and the premiere of this show, it'll run 51 episodes.

Let us see... Dinosaurs are ancient reptiles and avian, most of which are known for raw and brute strength, or regarded as such despite what science says, and a sentai team of Dino's while this is being thought of...

I wounder where the idea would come from now?

I think the only reason Super Sentai is 'doing bad' is because kids in Japan are less willing to buy the crappy toys, no matter how good the series is.

Does anybody remember the times when Sentai had good mecha designs (i.e. Megaranger, Magiranger, Gaoranger, etc)? Bandai should relearn how to make good kid's toys.

I adored Zyuohger, so I'm glad to see Yamato back! Hopefully the other Zyuohgers appear, too!

As for the Sentai on thin ice thing, while I can't speak for the other series since ToQger, I think LuPat's problem was the lack of a collectable, which helps bolster sales, and the fact that they had a clear divide among the two teams. While producers were hoping that children would want to collect toys for both sides, the Lupin preference kind of skews things to one side (Hence why so many Patranger upgrades are going to the Lupins, to help push sales of Pat toys that might not have sold otherwise).

The cast was one of the few things I enjoyed about Zyuohger. I was really surprised he came back, his actor's gotten kinda popular lately.

Same. Zyuoh's plot was lacking, but the cast was super solid and worked well off each other. I loved them.
I didn't know he was popular, though. That's always cool to find out. I enjoy learning that Sentai/Rider actors have achieved mainstream status in Japan~

Same here. One of the best castings in Super Sentai I think.

Marvelous and Yamato reunited again :)

In case anyone is curious what Akaninger was up to post-Ninninger, He was in the stage adaptation of Fate/Grand Order as this character recently it seems.

This is the closest we will get to a Zyuohger vs Kyuranger.

The staff for this special will be Naruhisa Arakawa as writer and Koichi Sakamoto as director.

I just looked up Arakawa's credits. I think we're in for a treat.

Iiinteresting. I'd be more puzzled about the tournament format if I hadn't watched Naruto and season 2 of My Hero Academia recently. Now I'm all excited because I suddenly recognize this trope.

Thought: one of the weaknesses of Sentai is that the uniqueness of each team tends to be buried in the practicalities of a weekly show every year: Sentai teams - and Riders, for that matter - should fight pretty differently, but it often comes off samey. I wonder if this project will attempt to make the teams and heroes feel more distinct.

This is reminding me of that Wizard special that aired after the finale. I wonder if Ryuusouger will make a cameo in this like Gaim did as a special preview.

And that's where I had to stop. Usually with 4chan, the "insider" in question is usually someone who's just pulling everyone's legs.

I mean yeah, normal 4chan leakers are just people trying to shitpost but this one has gotten basically everything it said right. Hell the fact it dropped screenshots of a not yet released Cross-Z trailer with time and date of release was proof enough for me to be honest.

Yeah people had been replying to this with "but anyone could do that!" and...no, no they couldn't. That's all very tight lipped information usually kept under NDAs up to a specific point in time. This person risked a lot to leak this information. I don't see what they gain from lying. And, as you mentioned, everything they posted has turned out to be true.

People do also seem to stop reading as soon as they read "4chan" and miss out on the fact that this person posted highly sensitive information that all ended up being real.

Christ is this gonna have some damn good fight scenes.

Marvelous and Yamato YES my two favorite reds team up again. This sounds like a lot of fun looking forward to this.

I think it would be cool and funny if they had an Akibaranger and a Gorider on one of the other teams.

I don't really like Zyuohger, and even the show was Red-centric a lot of time, but Yamato and his actor is what makes the show good and gives us what a Red Ranger should be if they want him to be spotlight stealer.

And also I want to see Takaharu getting beaten up a lot.

And the final episode will likely feature Ryusouger cameo.
