Power Rangers Beast Morphers Episode 1- "BEAST UNLEASHED!" Discussion
Scientists tap into the Morphin Grid, but an evil virus corrupts the technology and a new team of Power Rangers is formed to defend the Grid from evil.
A new era in Ranger History has begun! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gB11UKCfJcA |
Really love the glitchy effect on Blaze and Roxy’s monster forms. Seems like red and yellow started out as janitors before becoming rangers.
|
I like it a Lot. I have a lot of hopes for this season given the past 2 years.
|
That is straight up on par with RPM. Very nice camera work, and strong stunt coordination.

At last the Hasbro Era has begun!

2nd Clip Online, supposedly this was found on the Nick app no Youtubelink for now, so we'll have to use the Twitter clip.
|
Wow. Did not expect this. The fight choreo is awesome.
And am I the only one getting partial Jetman vibes from this one clip alone? Seeing how there is another Yellow Ranger candidate, Devon the Red Ranger and Zoey the Yellow Ranger seem like they are not intended to be rangers at first until the story progresses, and Ravi the Blue Ranger is set up as if he was Ryu/Red Hawk. |
so now i get why escape is yellow, very interesting way to use the costume (though i imagine there will be some very weird issues with stock footage unless they come up with something to make her purple)
but yeah, this looks good, hope it can keep up the quality throughout, maybe this could be a really good season |

Still should be amazing though, and one of the best seasons yet! |

It's like they're *actually* trying to make this a good show that adults and kids can both enjoy. |
That fighting was awesome.
|
i just want to note that the third episode is absolutely going to be a generic "save the environment" episode, and we still have the unknown comic relief duo characters
|
That other video has a SPD fell to it. It makes me think of what happen to Jack when he was locked up.
|
That fight scene had the intensity and harshness of RPM. I really hope Beast Morphers relies heavily on original footage like RPM did.
|
Loved it All. Now the wait for the toys.
Love how the red rangers dad name dropped some of the past power rangers. It's About Time A Power Ranger season started doing that again. |
Was it just me or did the comedy relief actually seem kinda funny this time?
|
A pretty promising start.
I liked name-dropping the villains; if we're claiming all the shows share a continuity, let's acknowledge it. I'm reserving judgment on the comic relief duo. |

Given the Mayor's reservations, it's clear they will follow the "theft of Enetron" from Go-Busters while also going further with the potential political ramifications of relying on something that somebody wants! Also, the Commander didn't want to show the Mayor the team's faces, suggesting right from the start that Devon will be keeping a secret from his father, a secret that could influence his father's decisions. Perhaps they'll also explain in the future, though I'm not holding my breath, why one city is experimenting with Morph-X and how this city was "chosen", especially since the Mayor is opposed to the idea. You also have to wonder what the Multiverse and the Veteran Rangers are thinking, such as: "Government is finally taping into the Morphin Grid without consulting us or thinking twice!" It's not the first time something like this has happened, where a government agency is creating its own Rangers, but it is the first time where humans are saying that the energy of the Grid can be used for more trivial matters. The set-up is there and upfront! I go in this with hope that the franchise will restore itself and become a major player once again! P.S.: Have they axed the binoculars and camera from Go-Busters or not? It's almost like the gear is being kept the same, but the spy aspect isn't! To be fair...it is only the first episode! P.P.S.: Zoey and Devon weren't actually wearing Morphers, right? Does the power reside within, and the Morphers only regulate and access it when needed? Were the Morphers transported during the Infusion Sequence? |
It's a bit weird as they are clearly still using the weapon modes but they may just try and pass them off as very strange-looking weapons.
I think it was kind of a special first morph, and they presumably will need the morphers from now on. The beast DNA does seem to be an inate power thing, I guess the morphers teleport the suits themselves? |
Really nice way to kick off the Hasbro Era.

Outside of US, I can't figure out how to watch it?

Loved it.
It's got so many classic sentai markers too. Evoking elements of pre-power rangers era shows, including the best elements of what made sentai stood out, while also modernizing it. Decent comedic elements. And fun casting too. Really happy with how it turned out, and I'm glad it's not only good, but pretty great. |
The red ranger insecure family complex from rpm. Kind of surprising they did evil clone rather than real betrayal. First time to see both main guys are non-white.

i can't find a way to watch it rn, but glad to hear the first episode is good, hopefully it continues lol

This is just the Early Game. Now if Hasbro can successfully carry their mid-to-late game correctly...
|
So...where can I watch this if I missed it?

I generally stay pretty silent about Power Rangers on this site, but I'd kick myself if I didn't come in here and pay my respects, because this episode was perfect. I felt a sense of childlike wonderment and glee from this premiere that Power Rangers hasn't given me in about a decade.
You'd have to be pretty cynical to say anything too nasty about this one. Whether or not Beast Morphers turns out to be a true return to form for PR is something that will be determined in the coming year or two, but at the very least, this first episode could go toe to toe with any other pilot in the series' history. Coming after something as mind-numbing as Ninja Steel, though, the difference is night and day. Pretty much all the elements here are put in place and work great, and as someone who didn't expect to see any major change in quality right away just because Hasbro bought the franchise, I was consistently impressed going through the episode at how much I found myself enjoying it. All the things I felt have been neglected since Samurai were back with a vengeance. It's still pretty close to those shows stylistically, but there was clearly a huge effort to really put the soap opera drama back in PR, with a lot more traditionally "movie" sounding BGM for the most part, a lot less goofy comedy, and an amount of world building I'm shocked anyone working on this show remembers how to do after like 6 years of generic alien armadas attacking an otherwise normal Earth. I'm actually struggling to think of how to organize my thoughts here, but the simple fact that a new episode of Power Rangers gave me this much to gush about is probably the most important takeaway. I guess I just stick to the things that particularly stood out: - First of all, even as someone who's cool with PR being a carbon copy of Sentai as long as it doesn't mess it up, I also love it when they take all the cool stuff from its source material and really make it their own. Having people working on the series who go "Hey, what if we added a key gimmick to the Morphers?" or "That evil Red Ranger suit is awesome, let's use that more!" shows that there's an actual creative spark here, and that's extremely reassuring. - I really, really like Devon. They did a great job establishing his character and endearing him to me in a pretty quick time frame. He has some character flaws that both make him relatable and provide opportunities for future drama, while also showing he's smart, capable, and, most importantly, willing to hop into danger to help people without even thinking about it. They made him feel enough like a real person without losing the role model aspect that's key to Power Rangers, and that's perfect. It's literally all I could ask for. Not a plank of wood, and not a jerk. Also, the exchange he has with Zoey where he casually mentions he's a trespasser was the most genuinely funny gag PR has had in ages, so if nothing else he deserves some props for that. :lol - The other Rangers seem pretty cool even though we see a lot less of them here. Going back to my first point, I loved how their personalities match up with their Sentai counterparts' basic roles without actually being the same. I especially like the idea of Ravi being the only one who's actually supposed to be in this position. Once again, this presents a great opportunity to add good drama in the future and will give a cool context to him presumably being the calm, reliable member of the team later. - The fight scene at the end was strangely impressive considering how hard it is to make people throwing down in a tiny room look cool? I can't describe this one very well having only watched the episode once, but I actually felt a sense of tension seeing everyone duck around and try to use quick thinking to defeat foes who are obviously more than a match physically. This is pretty basic stuff I look for in my superhero stories and to be fair, even a series like Ninja Steel shows the Rangers strategizing, but the "on the fly" nature of this one made it way more interesting. - Finally, all the setup here was great. This is the part that won't become true praise unless the show pays it off well, but I'm actually interested to see how plot points like Blaze and Roxy are going to play out, and considering we've also got potential parental conflicts and other things going on, I'm once again very impressed they did something more than just a disappeared dad for long-term drama. So yeah, Beast Morphers gets a big ol' thumbs up from me so far. Hopefully things only go up from here. :thumb: |
for anyone wanting to watch it outside the US or have missed it, the episode is up on dailymotion.
Thoughts on episode 1: this was really, really good and a great start to Hasbro's era. I really enjoyed this episode. We get a good initial idea of who each ranger is and their personalities (Devon's a "thrill-seeker" and looks for anything that challenges him, Ravi adheres to the rules even if doesn't agree with them, Zoey is a determined person who always wants to help in any way). I like how they're setting up the eventual rivalries/conflicts between Devon and Blaze (Avatar) and Ravi and Roxy (Avatar) and this episode did it really well. We don't get a lot about Blaze, Roxy, or Evox but we a good initial look and they'll most likely be explored in future episodes. I think overall, this episode introduced almost all the characters really well, it didn't seem forced or shoved down our mouths or too exposition-y (the only real exposition was used to introduce Nate but it didn't feel like too much). My only complaint about this would be the security guards aka comedic duo. Not a fan of them. They're not overly annoying but there's a part of me that thinks "can we move on to the next scene please". Overall, pretty good start to the series and hopefully it keeps this tone or better throughout the rest. |
Damn, this is already a vast improvement. The dialogue, the acting, the pacing, the camerawork.
And I’m only 4 minutes in! |
i laughed at the ladder gag, sorry. i think what separates the guards from victor and morty is that these guys are actually likable and are attempting to do good, but just aren't that good at it, like bulk and skull did near the end of the og saban era.
also not enough villains, not even an ending shot of blaze and roxy meeting evox for the first time and him going "grr". guess we gotta wait a week for that one that's my biggest complaint, hopefully this series continues to be good |
