This is great news.

They're doing a Q&A on Twitch right now and it was asked if the Black special was included and the answer is 2 specials are included. One's a behind the scenes thing and the other is a recap special.

EDIT: However, no movies. Just the specials.

Shame about the movies, but when it comes to this they're very Take It Or Leave It compared to say, W A to Z or Reiwa First Gen. I wish they were there for completion's sake but like, it's fine y'know?

Are those specials "This Is Kamen Rider BLACK" and "#1 through RX Big Gathering"? I can't think of anything else they'd be, and if it is them it'd be awesome for them to go that deep!

You can't really go wrong with this one, it is iconic. If they eventually did Black RX too I'd be over the moon, I know it's contentious but that show is my favorite Showa Rider!

Yeah, it definitely feels like if there was any Showa Rider to come next, it was going to be Black.

That being said, hooray for Discotek for getting in on Rider stuff!

Now can they be miracle workers and bring over Garo again? Kraken hasn't done anything with the license since the original sets were released and the first half of the 2005 Series is out of print now.

I agree, Black's films are not exactly masterpieces, but simply extended episodes. I wouldn't be surprised if that's what they are, just chosen to be shown in theaters.

I think the RX would have been better received if it wasn't a continuation of Black but a new rider.

I think the only thing that differentiates Showa-era KR and SS movies from the shows are the film stock they used. I'm pretty sure they shot the movies on 35mm film (while the shows were shot on 16mm film). Some of the HD transfers from that era's movies are freaking gorgeous.

But anyway...

KR Black on BluRay!? I'm shocked and amazed. This might be a purchase for me... which is saying something, as I can't remember the last time I bought anything on disc. I'm not even sure I still have a working BluRay player. :lol

Y'know what? That seems somewhat likely! I can't think of anything about a minute long that would be a really cool surprise to keep under wraps until release, and that does match up with the series preview being a minute long. It also makes sense that if they got the license to Kamen Rider at all they might wanna shoot for more than one series (even if BLACK alone is huge).

It'd be REALLY funny though -- BLACK is a hugely significant part of Kamen Rider history so it being one of the first five or so series to get an official english release like this? Makes sense; but getting RX before something like W or Den-O? Little bit hilarious

Considering that Black RX was used as the basis for Saban's Masked Rider, it kinda makes sense that it would be among the first to be released in the States. It's definitely the one series people not too deeply aware of Kamen Rider could pick up in a store and think "wait, I remember this show".

Plot twist, it's Saban's Masked Rider.

Listen you joke and say that but I would unironically be fine with Discotek of all people picking up and releasing Masked Rider by doing an SD-BD release of it.

As a reminder, Discotek is the group that puts out all the bells and whistles when it comes to restoration of media, just imagining that is both hilarious and something that'd be incredible for them to do. Like if we somehow got the best quality Masked Rider footage out of it? As someone who's only watched one episode of Masked Rider (The Christmas Special) I'd track it down and buy it.

This reminds me; remember when you boot up the disc/VHS, you were treated to the trailers of the coming shows/films on VHS/DVD ? It makes you hunt te copy of it. Good times :)

Amazon usually lists them for the original price before slicing them once enough time has passed before the release.

Though tbh I hardly use Amazon when it comes to like pre-ordering anime/toku DVD's/Blu-Rays anymore. The specialty stores are usually the way to go.

Release info added for USA 1st release of Rider included and that post will update when Shout confirms. U only list when a series is first released in North America mainly. Not sure what other companies have had Rider releases but their dates will also be listed.

It is infact the Black RX trailer, meaning that Discotek likely has the license for it.

Discotek is having another Discotek Day livestream on Monday night, and I'm willing to bet it will be announced then.

EDIT: Never mind, I can't calendar today.

That theory about the secret being the series preview for BLACK RX turned out to be true, by the way!! Looks like we may just be getting that next!
