Explain Samurai to me?
So, alright. Power Rangers Samurai is Sentai Shikenger. Duh.
What i'm more so questioning, is the appeal? I know it is one of the first Resabanified Power Rangers in a minute... But, at the same time? I don't see the appeal, and this isn't to say that all people indeed like Samurai... However... we got two seasons of that awful...awful...AWWWFFFFUULLL show, as well as it's toys clogging up the shelves. So, did it really get that good of a response? Also, can someone explain to me the appeal? |
Samurai is a case of In Your Face marketing done right.

the toys are fun if not always accurate to screen but being a transformers fan this is not a problem for me.
the appeal is that its geared toward kids and was massively successful despite the opinions of older fans |
Samurai has some of the worst acting I've seen since Ninja Storm. Figures aren't bad though!

The toys were pretty good, and kids seemed to dig it I guess. That's all it really needs from a marketing standpoint.

It was a hit with kids. Therefore, will be seen as successful in the eyes of Saban.
Megaforce looks to continue that trend. |
Samurai, as many have said here, was marketing done right (at least early on). It just proves that no matter how bad Power Rangers may be, if it's marketed well, it will have its share of viewers.
Another thing to remember is that kids don't necessarily have Shinkenger as a comparison, nor would they necessarily want Shinkenger. As a kid, I was terrified of Japanese Toku that was shown on TV, because the threats were more real and the monsters more menacing. Power Rangers helped me overcome the "Toku phobia" I had developed by being more kid-friendly. Also, while the toys aren't the best Power Rangers has to offer, but they are well-distributed and comprehensive, thus taking up a sizable amount of shelf-space at retail. In many regions, they have overshadowed even big-name boy brands like Transformers, Star Wars and Marvel Superheroes. A good shelf-presence has to account for something. Here's hoping Saban and Bandai learn from this to expand their market. How about a worldwide debut of Power Rangers for once? :) |

Because children don't expect much. And toys are fun.
