The American Original
We've seen them before. Titanium Ranger, Lord Zedd, being the two outstanding examples. But will we see them again? Samurai didn't give us much. It was basically a straight adaptation of Shinkenger and Megaforce, though an original story, hasn't given us much in the way of original characters (Rangers or Villians). Though it did give those great American Only scenes between Vrak and Alice in her base. Anyone think we might see something like this again?

I sure hope so. As I said in the other thread, I just finished RPM, which was almost nothing but original footage outside of giant fights. It was so refreshing to not watch the exact same footage I've seen before but in different context.
If Super Megaforce does indeed have a lot of original footage, I will be quite pleased. That preview with the all red Gokai change? Blah. Try again. |
i think we will see this in the gobuster adaptation. it will either have completely new villians and designs, or new villians but they will wear the same clothes as enter and escape, or a mix of both which is more likely I think. it could be handled villain wise like they handled rpm villians as an example.

When Power Rangers makes up its own stuff it's a lot better honestly.

More original stuff would be nice, but you also have fans that bitch about the PR shows not being faithful to the Sentai shows enough.

Anyway. Early Saban stuff at least deserves a credit for straying away from what it was adapting, but have you tried to watch In Space and Lost Galaxy again? Yeah, they aren't great. I think RPM is the one time where the show really made its own thing, and worked. Consistently though, it's the shows that have a healthy blend of both that seem to come off the best. Time Force, for example, stuck very close to Timeranger, by all regards, but it made subtle tweaks, like a brand new main villain and a different dynamic for the team to make the show its own thing at the same time. And I think it's that healthy blend that has allowed it to age as well as it has. |
