anyone like rider but dislike sentai?
for me that is the case, I like rider but I don't really like sentai that much to be honest, anyone feel the same way?
|
I don’t really dislike Sentai, it's just that I have no interest in watching it.
What turns me off is that they still reuse the whole “Monster is defeated, not, grows large, Robot combine!”-thing over and over again. I love the special-effects, I'm a huge Kaiju-Fan (Godzilla is still my favorite Toku-stuff) but the bland reuse of the same process just bores me. I know not all episodes are like that and there are a lot of creative Sentai-shows, but I still cant enjoy it. I'm also more a fan of single heroes with different origins and powers instead of the same colored team with different themes. |
Nope not really.
I like both pretty equally. Sometimes I watch more Sentai than Rider and vice versa it just depends in what mood I am :lol |
I do. And Power Rangers by extension. It's really the concept that bothers me the most. You fight meaningless battles with enemies on the ground in suits that don't offer much protection (aside from a helmet) just to lead up to the monster's growth & robot that fights said giant monster.
Not to mention the show's done in a format that is supposed to make multiple people shine but usually it's only 2-3 characters that might have care given to their development, but even that can be messed up due to over-saturation of said character. Plus the power-ups are handled oddly: all characters should go through a significant moment in their lives at the same time to make them all getting the same power justifying, but that's usually done in a forced manner by making the characters learn things that are supposed to be obvious to people that have been working as long as that team has. Or they only give a select few characters (sometimes only one) a boost in abilities, which makes that character overshadow their teammates: the exact opposite effect that a show about a group of people working together is supposed to have. Then they utilize their exaggerated technology (weapons, robots & power-ups) flawlessly in their first try almost every single time. You really begin to wonder what's the point of the characters if the technology is basically doing everything for the show. Kamen Rider isn't always free of these issues, they mess up too. But with Kamen Rider negatives are almost always outweighed by their positives since they almost always do more things right than wrong. |
Kind of...
I'm a bigger KR fan, and I'm more likely to watch it. While for Sentai, while I don't have anything against it, I'm more hesitant and picky with what series I'll watch. So, basically, I don't dislike Sentai. I'm just less likely to watch it. |
I wouldn't say that I dislike Sentai, but I'm not a huge fan of it. If a Sentai doesn't grip me really early on I am very likely to get bored partway through and stop watching (like I seem to be doing with ToQger). If a Sentai really doesn't work for me, though, I usually find that I absolutely hate it, whereas even subpar Rider can still be enjoyable in some ways (even Kiva).

The only sentai's I watched through were Gokaiger and Go-busters, I lost interest in Kyoryuger, and had none for Toqger, but I don't have any hate for it, Kamen Rider is like the show I've been wanting since I was a kid. One Main hero that fights for justice with added in maturity and drama, and nothing to shy away from.

Sentai was always a franchise I was incredibly fickle with. I tried watching Shinken as it aired, and I couldn't make it past 20 episodes. I tried watching Go-On, and I just dropped it after 10. I tried watching Bouken, and I quit after 10 as well. I went back to the past and tried Sun Vulcan, and sweet Celestia that series couldn't keep my interest past three.
For KR, even series that I wasn't a big fan of I manged to sit through. For Sentai, it always was a hard time just to make it to the halfway mark. Not until Gekiranger proved that Sentai wasn't a lost cause. |
I could never stand the idiotic comedy that accompanies almost every sentai. Sentai also feels less... polished, I guess, when compared to KR. The effects aren't as good, fights are less like fights and more like wild flailing, and the suits are just printed spandex as opposed to armored costumes that look like they actually provide some degree of protection. Even though KR came first, it feels like Toei took what was good from sentai, improved it and then chucked all the other crap out the window in order to make KR. Sentai's not horrible, it's just that everything I like about it is done better by KR. Except the mecha fights. Those are pretty awesome.

I've never like Sentai or Power Rangers. When I first got into Kamen Rider, I thought maybe I'd also get into Sentai or Power Rangers too. Unfortunately, I just can't ever get behind the style of Sentai shows. There are often way too many main characters and a lot of shows put way too much focus on the red ranger, and then on the extra ranger once they show up. About the only Sentai or Ranger show I ever liked was Power Rangers SPD- but only prior to the Omega Ranger's arrival. Good grief his voice and character annoyed the ever-living heck out of me.
