I'm pretty sure none of you anime fans know, but during the 70s-90s, Japan made many anime adaptations of famous Western books such as Les Miserables, Anne of Green Gables, A Little Princess, Little Women, Peter Pan, etc. For the most part they're extremely faithful to the books with some exceptions, and even expand on things with added storylines or characters to give them more depth. I love most of the WMT series, my favorites being Dog of Flanders, Little Princess Sara, Ie Naki Ko Remi, Les Miserables, Perrine Monogatari, and Anne of Green Gables. If anyone's looking for good anime with a lot of depth and heart, I recommend you watch some of these. But they're very slow paced and heavily reliant on storytelling and character development, so they're not for people who want non-stop action or fanservice (particularly the ecchi kind). |
Isn't Heidi from this one too? Because that show is a classic in Germany and still runs on TV from time to time. I remember the Anne of Green Gables-one and some others airing here as well, but color me surprised because I never knew there were so much more and that it all belongs to one big "franchise".

Yep, Heidi's one, too! I haven't seen it though.
