Super Minipla is now "Shokugan Modeling Project"
|
Which Toku properties are available on this "Live action and special effects work" list? Is it mostly just a list of every Sentai they've not yet covered?

Yep, that list looks like a bunch of Sentai series that haven't had a kit yet.
Also it looks like an alternative world Gunbuster is going to be one of the next SMP kits: https://twitter.com/garumasousen/sta...39514397986820 |
I just ran the whole list through a crude image translation website and there's... some interesting things here, actually.
First of all, every Sentai from Goranger to Zenkaiger not currently done. Yes, including Zenkaiger; the series that literally just started. They also included Akibaranger and Kyoryuger Brave which is super interesting. After that? A LOT of interesting stuff. Gavan, Ultra series, bunch of Metal Heroes; even Pacific Rim and an entry just called 'Power Rangers' which I'm assuming is its 2017 movie. Not sure if anything here besides maybe Gavan will win over a Sentai but it's interesting! https://i.imgur.com/g09Htx1.png |
Neat to see a future for Metal Heroes and B-Fighter figures in the form of Shokugan kits.
Wonder what they could make for Godzilla, tho? Well, aside from Mecha Godzilla variations and Jet Jaguar. |
So I'm a little confused by this. Can somebody explain what's going on? What is Shokugan? Is Super Minipla just rebranding? Is this a different product line?
I'm woefully uninformed about these things. |

It's just a rename, that's all. And there's a poll of which thing to do next.
|
Yeah its a rebranding to help the line branch out into more non-sentai stuff.
Minipla started as a Sentai line but has quickly grown to cover all sorts of licenses including the Brave Series, Ultraman, and such obscure mecha as GEAR Fighter Dendoh. It's been a smash hit and usually when there's a rebranding at Bandai, it typically means they are gonna put more resources towards it. I suspect the new branding is also a reminder to customers that this is still a candy toy line which can serve 2 major functions: 1) To not expect these to be playable collector toys and 2) The candy toy division is very separate from the Bandai Spirits teams that make other model kits like Gundam and there is a real rivalry between them when it comes to engineering and sales. I think the Shokugan team is flexing on the Spirits team :D |
Okay, thanks all. I submitted my votes for Dairanger, Ohranger, and Diebuster. Diebuster was specifically because...
