How are you folks feeling about Boonboomger?
I kinda petered off watching this show not too many episodes after our sixth hero debuted, and I'm trying to work out whether it's worth investing the time to watch more of the show before Gozyuger debuts. For those of you who're current - or relatively current - on the show, is it worth continuing to watch?
I like the cast, especially our current red hero, although I found our sixth pair obnoxious. I find this year's theme - cars, racing, couriers, etc. - thoroughly uninspiring. The BoonBoom cars and mecha hold no appeal for me. The Boonboom Killer robo was kind of cool, but not keep-watching-tepid-Sentai cool. My gold standard for a really good Sentai show would be something like King-Ohger. I never finished Kiramager or Zenkaiger, and I don't regret it. (DonBrothers is more complicated: I liked some of the things the show was doing, but its ongoing refusal to explain its premise was too alienating for me.) If I felt perfectly medium about the first quarter or so of the series, are the later episodes likely to change my mind? |
I love it. If King-Ohger was a great breath of fresh air in terms of storytelling and aesthetics for Super Sentai, this was a nice back-to-basics show for me. Love the suit designs, Genba's whole personal journey was fun, loved seeing past rangers come back, and the Easter eggs peppered here and there that refer to car-related things and pop culture elements were fun to point out. Third quarter was definitely my favorite, but I understand if people felt Genba's personal journey went on for too long and how it could've been more brief.

The show keeps repeating the same plots over and over (I lost count how many times they played the "Chashiro betrayed us but not really"-fiddle) between boring and mundane MOTW-plots that are just not fun.
Characters are one-dimensional and what little plot development does occur is not worth wasting your time with all the filler in order to get to it. I'd say watch until Mad Rex exits the show a second time, that's when it peaked. You can stop after. At least that’s my opinion right now; I will watch the rest in vain hope that the last few episodes are amazing. They won’t be. |

I remember in what was considered one of the most successful Sentai there was a character who had betrayal written into her character. https://media.tenor.com/ckW8RgcCJv0A...aiger-luka.png |

I liked the cast, I liked the villians, the sixth was a bit of a miss, but what sunk the show for me is the godawful mecha. Easily the laziest concept I have seen so far.

It's probably one of the best Sentai I've seen. The robots (especially ByunByun) are so cool, as are the final attacks that appear later down the line. I also really like the ToQger crossovers. Sometimes the show is a bit slow, but it's just too cool otherwise. I'll sure miss this show when it's over.

I think it's fine. The cast is good. All in all, I find Boonboomger okay. It's broken the streak for me personally of Reiwa Sentai being largely more interesting than the Rider show it's aired alongside.
I don't think going back to a more standard Sentai is what makes it kind of middling, it's doesn't really stand next to the best of those. I think the most interesting aspect is the spy/espionage stuff and while arguably it's more about that than cars even, I still wish it'd lean into it more. Still, I like it enough and watched it long enough that I might as well stick with it and see where it goes. I just hope Gozyuger kick things up a notch once more. |
