That doesn't change that, for [X] amount of episodes, they had the one mech comprised of 2 vehicles.

Here, the 4 vehicles never do anything. Ever. They're insultingly simple not to look similar to their on screen counterpart (Which doesn't matter to me in Gokai's case. They could all be bright purple with a floral pattern and you could argue they're just as close to the on screen counterpart and I'd agree), but because their gimmick needs them to be hollow.

I can't get over how half-hearted and random the zords are. It's like they got all creative making the pirate ship and threw up their hands and kicked their desk over when it came to the others. The yellow zord parts-forms instead of a simple hinge.

I'd love to buy an army of these to display all the auxiliary upgrade zords individually... This is probably more cost effective using the recently released BOA versions.

I just really don't understand what people expected. Other than a Pirate Ship what other vehicle would you have expected for pirates? 5 pirate ships would have made just as little sense as 5 different vehicles. I mean how different can 5 flying boats look? They may not fit in with the whole pirate theme as well but they wanted 5 colors and 5 vehicles in order to execute the compartment gimmick. One giant pirate ship with 5 hollow boxes physically attached to it would have been even more simplistic than 5 separate vehicles.

People are just picky.
I always saw the limbs as references to older Sentai series: Blue-Jetman, Green-Carranger, Pink-Boukenger, and Yellow-Dekaranger.

And, yes, I'm aware DekaGreen was the one who drove the semi, not Yellow. And sadly that throws a wrench in my theory.

Having never really given it thought before, your theory sounds very very solid to me. I made the connection to Boukenger for the Sub but that was it.

You're making it out like there's no alternative but to accept the design, but I don't. Not when just last month was Gaoranger. There's so many different way they could've done this mech, and if they really couldn't do a proper pirate theme, then they shouldn't have done pirates.

I personally saw all the other vehicles on Gokai-Oh to be Boukenger references. Blue flying thing, green/black racecar, white submarine of course, and a yellow land vehicle thingamado.

That's a pretty weak comparrison.

And doesn't really help the arguement for the design, since why would they homage Boukenger with the main Megazord, especially if it made for a terrible-looking Megazord?

I never noticed GokaiGreen's mech was a race car:o
