Micchy only a few episodes ago was commenting on how he was disappointed with Kouta because he didn't have the "strength" to sacrifice more people for Micchy's perceived greater good. Why on Earth would he now believe that Kouta would want to kill Mai of all people?
Because Ryouma, a guy who knows him less than Micchy does (who isn't completely there in the head these days, but still), says so? Sure, Kouta's an up-and-coming Overlord now, but all he's targeting still are other Overlords. How could even Micchy fall for this, unless he's just really looking for any excuse or reason to try and kill Kouta again? I get the (minor) bit of evidence Ryouma brings up, how it's the role of the Woman of the Beginning to hand over the fruit to the person she deems worthy, and that would likely kill her, but Ryouma himself says that Kouta is an oddity. So why would that mean he'd act like the Overlords of the past and do the exact same thing to Mai Rushuo ended up doing to his wife? This was what annoyed me about the set up of that fight, Micchy was being played by Ryouma a bit too well. They could of come up with another reason Micchy would by, as well as the rest of us, because this one seems a bit of a stretch for me. |
Well, this was a damn good episode, if a little short on action.
Now all I'm hoping for is for Overlord! Kaito to not get an anti-climatic death like Deemushu, Agent Peacock and Grinsha. Although at least Roshuo didn't go out anti-climatically, given that he wasn't even killed in outright combat, even when Kiwami Arms gets busted out. I mean, that can be summed up as going like this. Kouta: Oh yeah! Kiwami Arms up in this bitch! I'm gonna cleave your asshole in two! Roshuo: Nigga please. *Cue Roshuo destroying the Kachidoki lockseed so hard that Kouta's ancestors could feel it* So Micchy's gonna die next episode most likely. Anyone one wondering if he'll truly show regret for his actions? |
Here's the thing with Micchy.
He believes himself to be the ultimate manipulator, but in doing so, he ends up being easily manipulated. He tried to manipulate Kouta in to quitting his fight against Yggdrasill and the Overlords and failed both times. He tried to manipulate Redue in to serving him but instead played in to Redue's hands with destroying Takatora and nearly destroying Kaito and Kouta. Then, in an effort to manipulate Roshuo in to protecting Mai, he ends up endangering her by the Golden Fruit being placed inside of her, and then Roshuo AND Redue are both destroyed by Kouta. His realization that every single manipulation tactic has not only failed but backfired, and now Mai has the Golden Fruit and he believes from Ryouma (the only man who MIGHT know what's going on) that it's killing her, he's desperately now trying to right all his wrongs. He's a man at the absolute end of his ropes. His monologue to Mai perfectly symbolized that. "Why can't I remember your smile? What was I fighting for?" If there's anything that resembles a mental breakdown, it's Micchy using a Lock Seed guaranteeing his own death to protect the only person he cares about more than himself. Obviously it's another plan that will backfire - leaving her in the hands of Ryouma to destroy Kouta thinking Kouta will destroy Mai will end up in Mai being harmed by Ryouma, and Micchy dying for nothing in the end. And Takatora is hereby named Trollatora. |

And that's what I love about Gaim. Right there. It doesn't give you what you think, but in the end it ends up giving you what you never knew you needed. The writing is going to be the one thing I truely miss about this show. Because it's been perfect the whole way through. |

Micchy started out as someone who wanted to get out of the shadow of others, including his brother, his presumed life of having to be a pinnacle for others by being the best at everything. He's rebelled against everything he's been told to do over and over again. All so that he could prove himself to everyone, particularly Mai. Each individual, his brother, the girl he loves, his friends, all have been squashed by his own desire for this proof. However, his character went so far out of bounds, it's hard to even feel any apathy toward his want of self destruction. He's gone full Anakin. To be honest, I don't hate him as a character. He's just been fully scripted as this morally broken character that will have a truly tragic downfall. Maybe Sid's own death (and even Redue to an extent) was a foreshadowing that madness truly leads to destruction. |
So Sagara is basically the snake in the Garden of Eden? And is thus Helheim itself? And he's doing this for the sake of evolution? That's, that's, that's some mindfuckery.

That's the thing that's making me turn around on Miichi. Yeah he's a back stabbing sonofabitch sour grapes, but for all of his intrecrate planning and snaking around, he never really stops to think about the long term consequences. |

OMG!!! We watched 41 and 42 tonight. I WANT THE REST NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway, hand me a phone because I called all of this like 35 weeks ago. Mai was going to be Eve and Sagara was the snake that tricked her. |
