That scene alone made the epilogue worth it for me. Really put how much damage had been done into perspective.

They're definitely more creative, but it's also dated. The original Kamen Rider had some interesting shots for sure (I remember one where Hongo was fighting in a hallway, and it followed him down the hallway and eventually the camera just flipped upside down because he passed it.) but a lot of it looks weird compared to today's stuff. I guess it comes down to what you expect out of it. I appreciate the old stuff, my favorite Sentai era is the 90s. However, I find most of the 70s and early 80s stuff a bit hard to watch. It's not the effects, I'm totally on board with them. It just has much less focus on plot and is super repetitive.

So far, I've only seen about 15 episodes of the original Rider, 1 episode of Amazon, and the rest is all Neo-Heisei, so I don't really know what late Showa and early Heisei are like to compare...but even though I can appreciate the classics and the dated special effects, Neo-Heisei is definitely easier to watch than early Showa.

I've been being drawn more and more towards Ryuki lately. I was gonna watch Fourze next (i've already seen some and I liked it) but Ryuki is calling to me.

Dooo iiiitt!!! Fourze's a personal favorite of mine too, but Ryuki was the first show I watched all the way through and man does it have a special place in my heart.

Plus, you can come back to this thread when you're done to complain about the TV finale, and I can explain why it's actually a great ending. :p

That being said, if you liked what you saw of Fourze, it only gets better as it goes on.

Oh, and also, TVN's subs for Ryuki kind of blow. I know I was defending their newer stuff a little bit ago but the character voice in their Ryuki subs is crap, and there's blatant mistranslations, not all of which are minor.

I fucking hate the concept of novel-exclusive forms. The novels aren't NEARLY as accessible for non-Japanese fans, and it'd be cool seeing those stories. But then they need to be special and make stuff up like this

The design itself is pretty cool! But I'll never be able to see it in motion or see it fight, like Ryuga Survive and such. Would have been great, but no. Fuck people who don't read.

You know what I'm annoyed about, the Rider Damashii from the Kamen Rider Ichigo Movie. Like I know they wanted to tie the Legend Rider Eyecon specials and the Movie together for the 45th anniversary, and the scenes where they appeared was cool.

Mostly because they used their powers pretty effectively and they used music relevant to each rider as well. But I feel like we could have had a really cool Heroic Damashii fight scene during the climatic battle. Like Edison electrocuting enemy soldiers, Houdini wrapping them up in chains, Beethoven, Nobunaga, so on.

I mean we did get Toucon Robin Hood finally, which was nice after we saw scans of it like forever ago.

Really, you can do that? I actually thought the ending was fine if not a little irritating because of the whole retcon nature of it. The part I absolutely can't deal with is the origin of the Mirror Monsters. It's brain melting.

You see, that's the thing though, that isn't what a retcon is. I see people say that about Ryuki and I know it probably sounds crazy, but just because it's about as literal a reset button ending as you can get without an actual button doesn't mean they were just pulling stuff out of their a**. The whole concept of Kanzaki rewinding the Rider War to get what he wants is a part of the series from about the halfway mark, so when finally decides to just not start the thing in the first place, that's the climax of his character arc. He accepts the loss of his sister and moves on.

It's really pretty straightforward and I wish people didn't have an averse reaction to endings like that just because they usually don't serve that much of a purpose. Even I was a little thrown off by it at first, to be honest, but in retrospect it really fits the show thematically.

The Mirror Monsters, unfortunately, I cannot justify. I mostly try not to think about it. It's not too important, anyway. They're there so the Riders have something to beat on for 50 episodes.
