Anyway, as I opened my big mouth about an episode being TJ and Cassie centric, it was an Ashley episode who just didn't have any prominence for the first 10 minutes :lol She's a decent actress. Carlos hasn't had much to do, though. I also like the updated morphing sequence for TJ and the crew. |
I was glad they dropped all the car names for the morphing sequence, I always found them pretty silly.

The effects were better, it streamlined Justin growing, and the morphing sequence overall was much faster, without the naming, the helmet having this awkward CG effect form over their head, and etc. |

OH MY SWEET GOD :lolol I'm rolling :lol |
I'm now 25 episodes into PR Turbo.
I want everyone who declares this series to be bad to present their reasons why. Well, that'll never happen since no one else posts in this thread :p Anyway, I'm actually enjoying it. And that's a legitimate shock to myself, considering I was expecting 45 episodes of utter trash, not 45 episodes of a fun and energetic show. I've come to realize that Turbo has a bad rap for the same reason why MMPR and it's actors are fondly remembered. Turbo changed status quo in one fell swoop. Rather than gradually shift characters one (Or, in MMPR's case, 3) at a time, it just replaced everyone, including beloved Green Ranger Tommy. Nostalgia carries that possible childhood anger over losing these characters you've had for the past [X] years (Varying depending on who) and now, because of it, Turbo is then seen as "The bad series" because of it, despite being no worse than MMPR or Zeo, acting and plot wise. The children grow up and due to lack of availability (And later, outright refusal to watch the show you remember as "Bad."), Turbo is seen as horrible. "But I rewatched Turbo and hated it." Because you watched it with the intent on disliking it. You went into Turbo with no intentions on giving it a chance, so you saw every flaw as bigger than they actually were and were unwilling to give it the same liberties you gave the prior seasons. And before I'm attacked, I already know it's completely possible to hate Turbo for your own reasons, completely legit and there's nothing wrong with that. Perhaps Ponies mellowed me out and I'm a lot more forgiving. Who knows. I'm just tired of Turbo hate when it's doing nothing wrong. |
The first part of Turbo is not bad per se so much as it was a let down from Zeo. This has more to do with Carranger than Saban. After the cast swap, the show improves quite a bit, and there's a lot of fun in there.. The new cast brings a lot of energy, and the writing steps up as well.
It's a "light" series in a lot of ways, but not nearly as bad as it's rep. The movie is pretty terrible though. |

And I agree. While the acting isn't all that much of an improvement, the new cast does enough to make it fresh again. And I agree that the writing steps it up by virtue of not starting 4 different episodes off with Tommy on a race track. :I Quote:

Okay, adding Carlos to the "Not very good" category, too.
TJ is getting better as I watch, but he's still not there yet. Anyway, watching the episode The Robot Ranger. This is some Twilight Zone sh*t right here. :lol |
And, with that, I have finished Power Rangers Turbo, episode 1 to Episode 45. I did not skip episodes. I did not fast forward.
Was it good? No. Was it enjoyable? Oh hell yeah. This is a series that left a bad taste in the mouths of many, but I can't see why. Honestly. Watching it left me constantly asking "What is this series doing that is so terrible that it's widely regarded as one of the worst?" From an acting standpoint, the weakest performances were from the precious holdovers from Zeo, including fan beloved JDF and Johnny Yong Bosch. David Blake, Justin, acted circles around them, and the majority of the MMPR cast as well. The concept of the character was dumb? Fine. But fish-headed alien ninjas are a-okay? A super genius who can build a f*cking time machine but can't make any useful devices is good, but having a kid be a Power Ranger is horrible? Having a set of 5 goody goods, completely perfect in every manner who commonly participates in every sport, charity event, and after school activity are endearing characters, but having a flawed and interesting character is bad just because he's a little kid? I seriously want everyone who hated on Justin to shut the hell up, take a step back, and realize that, out of Everyone in MMPR, Zeo, and Turbo, he was the only one who was written competently. Anyway, the rest of the actors were very meh. Cassie needed a lot of work, TJ slowly improved, Ashley did fine, and Carlos needed to have lines to begin with in order to be judged. For the villains, they were horrid. The main cast of Divatox, Elgar, Rygog, and what's his name were dumb and Elgar should have drowned. The monsters of the week had terrible designs. For the story, it could have been better. What I mean is that, like MMPR, it seemed to have a lot of just episodes that were just action with a framing device of the juice bar or high school. There wasn't much plot, but Chase into Space (The last 2 episodes) were great, high tension, high stakes, it was just awesome. Turbo is not a good show. But no Power Ranger season is. If you're going to hate Turbo, fine. But if you're going to call it bad because someone on the Internet said so, then you really have to take a step back and learn to make your own decisions. 2/10 in general. 6/10 for a Power Rangers season. |
thinking i may have to watch turbo again. ill take any chance to see kat and ashley again and that a single season lets me do that is total win.

So I just checked out the opening two parter for SPD for like the 100th time in two years, I certainly enjoyed it a lot more this time around, it gets really dark in places and doesn't seem to rely on the sentai too heavily. Although the pacing was kinda off and their morph is kinda weird, with them blocking their faces with their arms and stuff.

I really enjoyed SPD. |
SPD is definitely underrated. There were a few too many issues with it that stopped me from REALLY enjoying it, but I certainly believe it doesn't deserve the scorn it often gets.

It does a pretty great job at convincing us that this future, and SPD are real, at least better than when Power Rangers tried this in the past. I also like the unconventional use of zords and the chemistry between the team.
One complaint - more a missed opportunity - is it seems odd in a franchise with alien and robot rangers that in the series that opens with something like 'this is the future where humans and aliens live together, bad aliens are the reason SPD exists'. And yet this is the team with a core, human team... I think Z and Jack should have been aliens and Jack and Sky's tension should be built around the fact that he thinks it should be a human leading the team. |
I've been watching In Space this week as that was the last series I watched as a kid and after that I didn't really pay much attention. I caught a few episodes of Lightspeed and Lost Galaxy but I had moved on at that point. Did catch some of Ninja Storm and Dino Thunder and enjoyed what I saw so I think I will watch those next since they are all on Netflix.
I have a question about Lightspeed. I watched the first few episodes the other day and I think it was the first show where the Rangers aren't chosen by fate or some mythical force, right? If Lightspeed had the tech to make rangers/zords and they knew a threat was coming how come they waited you until there was an attack to grab the people they wanted? They picked people for odd reasons like being a rock climber, fire fighter, pilot, the bosses daughter, but didn't think these people should be trained beforehand? Seems odd for an organization like that. When Zordon says to get him some healthy teenagers with "attitude" it's an unexpected emergency and him and Alpha have just been chilling in the power chamber for who knows how long. It's really a complaint or anything but the set up just seems weird. Yes yes, I know I am talking about a Power Rangers show. |
Yeah. For Lightspeed, it really was odd for this huge organization with hundreds of staff on hand to pick people outside said organization.
|
I mean, even Lightspeed Pink had no idea she was going to be a ranger and no training for it. She was like an office manager or something it looks like.

Watched a little more of SPD, I really do love that SPD actually feels like a real police force, rather than just a backdrop for the action, even if their version of the future is about as convincing as Terra Venture was a spacestation. The show also has a great sense of humour and great action sequences.
That said, I'm really not that hot on the characters. I find both Bridge and Syd very unconvincing as two trained officers, I mean I know they've proven themselves in unmorphed fights and don't judge a book etc etc but idk, they just don't click for me. Z has nothing to her aside from forced sass and an accent that drops and comes back again whenever she can be bothered to act. And Jack so far is possibly the worst Red ever, as he is a completely unlikeable douchebag. Ironically I think I actually like Sky the most, I know he is unlikable but at least it is on purpose with his character and at least he actually convinces as an officer, even if he is a bit childish at times. The show also, in places, feels incredibly dumbed down and censored, even for Power Rangers. |
Just watched the Sam two parter of SPD, what is it with Kalish and picking casts that don't match up to the height or build of the suit actors?
In terms of the actual story, I do like that much like with Ninja Storm they have given an actual in story reason to have civilian powers...that being said as they don't have their powers in the Sentai footage it just seems like an odd addition because it just creates more problems than it is worth. I mean we know why they aren't in the morphed footage but they've yet to drop their pseudo explanation bullshit to explain why they haven't used their extremely useful powers even when they've had their asses handed to them. Even the actual sentai powers are poorly handled with the Rangers pulling random powers and abilities out of their asses with no explanation at all. Then again it isn't quite as contradictory as it was in Dino Thunder when Connor got superspeed but Trent's signature morphed move was a Superspeed attack even though his power was camouflage. Also Mora is annoying as shit and Sam's actor was awful. Although the biggest problem with the episode is me finding out that Kat is a GILF. I want to fancy her, cold dead eyes because of extremely cheap contacts and all, but I said my cut off was ten years older than I am and she's like ten times older than that. :lol |
To be fair her actress is reasonably aged and very much a mega fox
|
If SPD has more episodes like 'Idol' it could well be my new favourite series.
The storytelling was fairly rushed because it only had twenty two minutes and it filled in a lot of the blanks with clichés but it told a very grown up story that wasn't hampered too heavily by the usual assumption in children's broadcasting that all children are morons. It actually felt really out of place with how heavy handed and heavily censored the storytelling has been up until this point. What a great episode. What is with SPD's anti capitalism messages? Practically every episode associates money with evil, which you know is pretty ironic when you think of what goes on behind the scenes with Power Rangers even during the Disney era. It also seems like a message that would really go over children's heads, personally money was only a means to get toys as a child and I never really realised all the ramifications and importance of money until the last few years when I've been looking after myself. At least episode ten explains to some degree why Jack is such an asshole and the team have some nice chemistry. Are Syd and Jack gonna bumpuggle it? Although the sentai blending that episode was absolutely dire. "Enough posing! Let's fight!" Also wow, Doggie's backstory sure was dark. |
I rewatched the first two episodes of Power Rangers Jungle Fury.

Anyone know what Power Rangers series are on the UK netflix? Or know where I can find out? I've been relying on torrents of dire quality and I'd happily pay to rewatch some old series in good quality.
