Finally had time to sit down and watch the first episode of season 2 and I was really surprised by what we're getting here. I largely avoided spoilers for this series; I knew Neo was going to be in this, but I didn't realize he was going to be the protagonist and that, so far at least, we're focusing largely on a whole new cast of characters instead of the returning characters from season 1. I like that; it feels like a new show while still being a continuation of the previous season.
If I'm being honest, I'm not really digging Chihiro as a main character so far, but I'm not concerned by that yet. It took me a few episodes to get into Haruka last year, and so far Chihiro reminds me a lot of early Haruka: kinda passive and emotionally withdrawn. I'm sure we'll see more dimension to his character as the show progresses. Not sure about the Neo suit, though. I like the silver parts and how it looks more like a cyborg skin placed over the base Amazon design. I just wish the more organic bits blended into the silver better. Something about the blue and the stripes just isn't working for me. I can't quite put my finger on what it is, but I find it vaguely off-putting and the suit overall doesn't work for me nearly as well as Alpha or Omega. I like the concept behind the sword, but in execution it just looks awkward and I can't imagine how effective that would actually be to wield. I forgot how idiosyncratic this show's cinematography can be. There are a lot of extreme close-ups and dutch angles in here. It largely works, but sometimes you get scenes like the one with the new hunting group - 4C, I guess? - hanging out and the whole thing feels really weirdly staged. I'm not sure if that works for me or not, but it certainly stands out. Nice to see that church with the double stairs again. One of the cooler, less overused stock locations. Really curious to see where this goes next and how they fit the returning characters into this new set-up. |
Welp, Haruka showed up and remembering the last episodes of season one, he has fully embraced his Amazonity so he is the villain now. Kinda like Dante from DMC. Although judging from Fukuda's comments from the previous episode, the previous team fell apart because the members misunderstood each other, not because Haruka and Mamoru were Amazons. So maybe, reconciliation is possible.
And the only person I like from this new cast is Iyu. |
Haruka is just fulfilling his duty as the reaper of feral Amazons since Chihiro maybe probably ate his own mother.
|
Oh my god! Did anyone else get chills when Haruka arrived then transformed!? The first episode of season 2 was pretty bad to be honest, but episode 2 was a huge improvement. The scene with Iyu and her family was probably the most messed up scene in Amazons so far in my opinion. Episode 3 seems to be a good one as well, I can't wait.

Not sure if anyone noticed, but Iyu's father is Toru Hojo from Agito, Centipede Orphenoch from Faiz and that one police guy killed by Brain in Drive's Type: Tokujo.
Beside the very first Amazonz, who seems to be a mix between lion and cheetah and a few unseen amazonz, I have managed to indentify all of the current season 2 Amazonz's motif: The bride is Stag Beetle, the three bridesmaids in order of them being killed by Iyu are Mantis, Snake and Rhino Taku, the member of Team X turned into a Monkey (or atleast primate, judging from the lack of tail) Amazonz, Sea Urchin at Aroma Ozone (oh hey, another amazon pun) and Iyu's father is Vulture, which is kinda fitting since both of them are birds. |

I liked episode 2 by the way, it's slowly but surely picking up speed now. Haruka at the end was a huge "Oh shit"-moment. Also: The bridesmaids bodies kinda hardened after they were defeated. Did anybody else expect they would evolve? |

Cheese and rice, I forgot how violent this show can get. The flashback to Iyu's death and the scene where the Team X kid went crazy... damn, those were brutal.
I'm generally enjoying the show so far, but I'm having a couple issues. The leader of the new Amazon hunter squad is really annoying. The actor is playing the role way too low key; I'm not sure what he's going for, but he comes off like he's been chugging codeine between scenes. I'm also having trouble with Chihiro. I got annoyed with how long Haruka's backstory was dragged out, but it seems like they're doing the opposite with Chihiro. I don't buy his concern for Iyu (who is goddamn fascinating, btw) since we know so little about his character. I'm sure this will get filled in, but it isn't working for me so far because I don't know the character well enough yet to buy his motivation here. I did like Haruka's arrival, but I kinda wish now that we'd gotten a longer break between seasons. The badass return of the first season's hero is less imposing when he still looks like a weenie high schooler. |

Raw for episode 3 is out, and for anyone who is worrying about Haruka
He isn't the one behind the whole Aroma Ozone water cooler thing, In fact, he is the reason Iyu still have a body for resurrection, as he killed her father before he can start feasting on her. This episode's Amazonz seems to be Elephant, and an Anteater. Not sure about the Anteater though, she acts like one, but she also have insectoid features like antenna and insect legs on her back. Next week Amazonz includes Butterfly, Soldier Ant and Mole. My guess is they are of the original 4000. |

Did you expect someone like Faiz with a depressing deep voice or Blade with his sunglasses before he kick Tsukasa's ass? I almost forgot tsukasa wore his sunglasses in Kamen Rider Wizard's finale. Amazon season 2 did felt like a year or two have passed instead of five. |
Episode 2 was damn. I had to remind myself that this was Kamen Rider. Also does anyone else feel hungry after watching the episode or just me?

So Japanime presented a very interesting theory.
They said that Chihiro has been experiencing "rapid growth" and they also threw a line in there about him "eating his mother". Kamen Rider Amazon Alpha can be seen in Chihiro's flashback, back in the distance. What if Chihiro is the offspring of Izumi and Jin? And he ended up eating Izumi? He constantly reminds people that he isn't an Amazon, perhaps it's because he's literally mostly human? And now Jin has fully resolved to take out his own kid, once again adopting his "ALL Amazons must die" philosophy. |

Finally watched eps 1/14 and 2/15.
Holy crap this is one gory show. Like it so far, it's got everything - great actors, a good story, atmospheric music, cool fight choreography. The only things not working for me are the, frankly goofy, Amazon suits and the "too open" cinematography which "lets the zippers show", if you catch my drft. Still, a good watch so far. |
Episode 3/16. GAH! This is such an odd show; it's "adult" but only in the same manner any horror movie is - not really. Amazonz' writing isn't any smarter than, say, Gaim or Ex-Aid - it's simple pulp, it's just drenched in gore, both of the digital and practical variety.
It's exactly what teenage Mars dreamt of in those gore heavy B-Movie days of the 1980s - superheros gone supermonsters. As an adult, I suppose I wanted something a bit more sophisticated but, when I take it for what it is: horror designed with a teenage viewership in mind (let's get real, here), it's pretty awesome. This episode reintroduces some old characters and, hey! the actor who portrayed Hojo in Agito and the weird Centipede Orphenoch in Faiz is here as Iyu's cannibalistic papa! Amazon Alpha makes his season debut here and, in a turn you wouldn't expect for Kamen Rider, absolutely wipes the floor with Amazon Neo. Actually, Neo gets his head kicked in pretty regularly so far - hey, Ryuki, you ain't alone, bro! The story takes some interesting turns concerning Iyu and Haruka and Chihiro's got an unfortunate "wrong place / wrong time" moment. While I maintain the Amazons still look goofy, this episode is filmed a bit more moody; the elephant Amazon was particularly creepy (hope to see more of him) Hyped for next episode with the return on Mamoru, who appears to have become a badass! Amazing what a bit of humanburger will do for an 'Zon! |
Episode 2 the gore is real. That happened to Team kiss way sooner than I was expecting. Iyu backstory was pretty tragic, seeing how it also apparently effected the new team leader pretty deeply. And speaking of team, hey there's another one. Looks like the exterminator budget got an upgrade. Still hoping somebody punches that assistant in the face at some point, been waiting for it to happen sicne season 1.

I've been wanting to see that since he first appeared in season 1, I may have a problem lol. |
Episode 3: Nice to see so many returning characters already, even if I totally confused Mopey Fish Girl for Kickass Knife Girl at first (in my defense, the former has different hair and it's been a year). I'm really surprised by Mopey Fish Girl's new role; that is totally not where I expected the character to end up.
I'm intrigued by the developments with Haruka. I guess he wasn't just living in the wild all this time. I'm really curious to see what he was doing with Iyu's father. Most of the new characters are growing on me already. Chihiro is still a little underdeveloped, but I'm finding myself starting to like him more and more (even if he's apparently getting his sweaters from Micchy). Iyu is my favorite new character, though. She kind of reminds me of what Makai no Hana was trying to do with Mayuri, only it's being done competently here. As before, I'm continuing to be bemused by Captain Codeine's bizarrely detached performance. |
I liked how only one of the Team X members made it out fine, since one of them became an Amazon and the other one lost his leg because of it, mostly to show that this isn't kids stuff and hard hitting dose of reality. TBH, i'd be puking too if I saw someones scalp on the floor. I think Iyu is possibly the most tragic character in Amazons.

I loved this episode ending with Iyu tragi-chanting while Chihiro lay in a pool of his own blood gasping for life - only for the next EP to show the pair... GOING SHOPPPIIIIING!
Whooooaaa, my NECK! |
just watched episode 4. The episode is surprisingly light-hearted and cute for a series like this. My fav part has to be Chihiro trying to make Iyu mimic his action and have fun with him.
It seems like Mamoru has something to do with the water cooler though, that's not good. From the next ep preview and name, it seems that the Rose Amazonz won't just be your average monster-of-the-week. |
It just occurred to me, the guys aren't using electrified rounds/weapons anymore.
Did they ever give a specific reason why they used those, or did I not miss something? |
Finish ep 4 not to much going on except for Neo Amazon taking Crow Amazon out for fun which they both seem to enjoy somewhat.
Mamoru at the end of the ep had me hype. I want to find out what he been up to. The Rose Amazon looks to be a very strong Amazon in the preview. Also one of the old team members returns to his team at the end and leaves the new team which is good to see since I hate the new team. The new team leader is a jerk acts all cocky hope he gets hurt in a future ep. The next ep gonna be pack with everyone being there can't wait. |
I've been looking for episode 3 subbed this past week and I can't fix it anywhere. Anyone have a clue where to watch it?

Man they really cranked up the gore this season. That whole bit with the Elephant Amazon... that was messed up. Awesome, but messed up. That was also a messy cliffhanger.
I'm glad the Exterminators are getting back together, they're cooler than the replacement guys we've got this season. Die Set Down isn't as good as Armour Zone. I do like the WHOA WHOA WHOA bits. Enjoying this season so far. Quote:

Oh that reminds me, was that paint or corn syrup used for the woman's liquefied innards?
