That's... absolutely true actually. He still could've pressed both for the finisher, this makes more sense though. Maybe they were limited by the toy's functions here?

Just remembered how a lot of fantasy anime, manga and other works have a hero which is usually referred to as a 'yuusha', literally 'brave', 'hero' or 'man of valor'.

Kamen Rider Brave uses fantasy games as a motif.

Oh! Another reason for Aizen from Ultraman R/B to turn into Orb Dark was because the Orbcalibur uses the four elements just like Rosso and Blu do, adding an extra layer of contrast.

It's a good thing that you're mentioning R/B because I recently learned the show was originally called "Ultraman Z" and Rosso was Z. Same silhouette and all, same gimmick. They wanted to call it that to close out the Heisei era.

The plan got scrapped; Z became Rosso and got a brother, Blu. And now we have an actual Ultraman Z as well!

It might just be that they came so late in the show that there wasn't a budget for Masked forms.

They got off lucky because look at the ugly assortment of parts that Sasword got for his Masked form.

I think conversely that was part of the idea of the Hoppers. That they were an unconventional twist on the formula; underlined by the Zecter’s gimmick being two riders instead of two forms.

As far as I know, their gimmick is supposed to be the Rider Jump, rather than the Cast Off.

The whole thing about the Hopper Zecter is that you can turn it around to be either Kickhopper or Punchhopper

Well that's a better answer than anything from Toei so I guess I can live with that. Not exactly an existential quandary- just me being a fan of the grasshopper motif. I like the idea of molting and ablation and like how it was implemented into a Kamen Rider series.

Huh. I never realised that Cast Off was a reference to molting. That just makes Kabuto's already great designs even better for me.

Which is why I always think say what you will about the story, but they had the gimmicks on point. :rock:
And this is just my speculation but I think it is a nice reference to Inazuman in a way.

Personal headcanon is that whoever within ZECT that built it must got rid of the masked system for easy-access and to focus more on its unique gimmick. Cause while we got the dynamic duo that is the Hell Brothers, the writers could have made it just be one person who switches back-and-forth depending on the situation kinda like Lupin X/Patren X. And this has nothing to do with what I just said, but fun fact, the reason the hoppers have a long protruding head is because it is specifically based off of the Acrida cinerea, or Chinese Grasshopper.

I just realized that Ark-One is basically Two-Face of Kamen Rider.

I'd been wondering why the people behind Saber chose mythical beasts, real animals, and stories for the three genres of books, and if there was any reasoning behind "it's just cool." And I finally noticed that animal and story genres are basically two halves of the mythical beast genre: Animals are beasts that aren't mythical, and stories are myths that aren't beasts. Which is fitting since the mythical beast genre is the one the main rider uses for his main form.

The "tears" have been a kind of tradition ever since the original Kamen Rider. Not all Riders have them, but a lot do have some kind of black point or line coming down from their eyes (see Build for another recent example). If I remember right, they're a symbol of the Rider's sadness at wanting peace but needing to fight. And since Ark-One came into being through Aruto's grief at losing Izu, it makes sense that its tears would be huge!

Yeah the tears are one of my favorite design aspects of Rider. Even though its mostly a Showa thing, I think there are always other elements that signify the internal turmoil of using violence to solve violence.

I don't who this Budoh fellow is but using Google - nah. His sword's hilt is blue and has a hand guard. If anything Horobi's sword very much resembles Raiden's high-frequency blade from Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance in style and appearance.

Now that I really think about it, it makes sense that Kamen Rider Saber's WonderRide Books and Seiken Swordriver has extremely long jingles; the Drivers are reading books. You don't sing those things out (although if you do that, well, you do you).

Doesn't really make them any less tedious for me but still, kind of a nice touch.

No transformation sequence seems long to me after watching Ultraman R/B.
