Sentai is done and finished.

Anyone else a fan of character songs? I've been listening to the recently-released ones from Lupinranger VS Patranger and I thought to ask.

As usual, most of the actors aren't that great singers and the songs themselves are rarely that interesting in their tunes and lyrics, but I dunno, I've always found these really charming.

Mele's from Gekiranger is still the best one though.

You know what I'd like to see?
A Zyuohger special that involves one ranger representing every unique animal returning. Like, Zyuoh has Eagle/Bird, whale, gorilla, lion, tiger, elephant, shark, rhino, wolf, and crocodile. So bring in the Gouraigers or Beet and Stag Buster (Beetles), Stinger (Scorpion), one of the numerous Bisons, BullBlack (Bull), Dekamaster or Go-On Black (Dog), Mele or Hammy (Chameleon), Yellow Buster (Rabbit), etc etc.
Just, make a Zyuoh Zoo crossover with other animal rangers :lol

I'd like to see a blend between Bioman, Changeman and Flashman.

I personally don't have a problem with sentai in general. I like some series and some I don't. I mean I loved Toqger, and it seems that series was almost hated by the entire fandom. I also didn't care for Jetman and everyone seems to love it. If I had to pick a theme I would love to see, it would be Dragons. Each ranger is based on a Dragon. You could have the main villain by a Hydra or something.

Should we have another fat member like Goggle Yellow and Yellow owl ?

What if we have a sentai team is defeated and receive new powers like from MMPR through Zeo ?

So I was looking at a clip of ryusoulger where they cut to two business men, do you guys think toei uses the same actors for small jobs like that (I.E only one or two lines) or do you think they hire new ones each time they need incidental actors?

Could a current sentai have a sequel ?

Anyways, as much as I despise Kyuranger, Kyutama Dancing is superior. It’s incredibly catchy and fun. The Ryusoulger ED... meh. Watched it once then never again, like the OP song it's just average and overall pretty boring.

Kyutama Dancing with pelvic thrusting > Que Bom! Ryusoulger > Kyutama Dancing without pelvic thrusting

I just don't like either. Yeah, they're upbeat, but they don't have the life that I felt Let's ZyuOh Dance had.

But if I had to pick, then Kyu Kyu Tama, Tama Tama Kyu Kyu
Kyutama Dancing is a lot catchier than whatever the hell Ryusoulger's is.

Okay jokes aside if I had to choose from only the two Que Bom Ryusoulger. Reason is because although Kyutama Dancing is a fun song with the gradual build-up and all, Que Bom I feel is an easier song to get into. The dance choreo feels more straight-forward and simpler too.

On the orders of the fun police, I am legally required to say that I actually really like Kyutama Dancing. It's stupid and simple, yes, but the right level of beyond stupid that it's funny. Ryusoulger's is aight, nothing awful, but nothing standout.

I'd like to see another cyborg sentai.

So how are the effects in Ryusoulger? I can't deal with tons of bad CGI in Sentai/Rider, and the first episode and trailer made it seem like this series would be loaded with it. However, I know that sometimes, these shows use less flashy effects the further in you get, so I was wondering if maybe there's less CGI now? Ninninger, Zyuohger, and LuPat were all fine - mostly practical effects with some CGI flourishes here and there.

If you were fine with LuPat then you'll be fine with Ryusoulger. Also, the first episode had practical effects for the zord fight which wasn't even close to the case for LuPat.

Worth noting: I skipped around the first episode. I think I got discouraged when I saw the CGI dinosaurs and never made it to the proper mech fight.

Weird that you made that decision considering the mecha costume is basically made to be more mobile to perform actual stunts without excessive CGI

For those following along with Ryusoulger, are you satisfied with the Druidons/Minusaurs as the villains of the series? Why or why not?

Yes, very much so.

The Druidons themselves are present and entertaining throughout the series, unlike average Sentai villains who creep around in their lairs until the last few episodes.

The frequent change between generals is very welcome; I was pretty surprised how "early" they killed off Tankjoh. Granted, they only introduced two new generals since, one of which was killed way too early, but Wyzul is super fun too.

And they mostly work because of one factor: Kureon. He's as much of a main character as any Ryusoulger and that's great. His constant struggle within the Druidon faction, his unique characteristics that play off every different general in a new fashion and his general persona are so well done.

The Minusaurs? Best Sentai-MOTWs ever. Like, not even close. Their "bond" with a host makes the weekly plots work much more fluid than "oh there’s a monster and this random citizen also has some problem too". Plus, the stakes early on with Towa and Bamba trying to solve the problem by killing the host were great. Not played out perfectly but interesting enough.

But the best thing: They finally got rid of the stupid ass "Make my monster grow"-shit. I hate that trope so much. "We beat the monster, some chick comes out after the same pointless scenes were the boss tells her to do so, she says her catchphrase and then the monster grows and now we call our mechs". It's such a dumb waste of everyone’s time.

Making the Minusaurs constantly grow while feeding off their host is a great way to eliminate this, plus, most of the times they Ryusoulgers don’t actually manage to beat the Minusaur before it can grow. I never understood why Rangers always had to beat monsters twice, it's just weird.

The only thing they could do better is the suit design. The Minusaur from the very first episode looked awesome, it reminded me more of a monster from Ultraman than Sentai which is a huge upgrade in my book, but after that they succumbed to the usual wacky random monsters. I get it though, designing and producing so many different suits is tough, plus, its kinda Sentai's thing so actual fans (aka not me) might prefer it this way.

All in all I think the bad guys of this season are great. Actually the best I've seen yet.

I just wish the theme of the Minosaur trying to accomplish something specific from the host was more prevalent.
Stuff like the swordsman wanting to fight his rival, or the firefighter that wants to make films.

Too many of the minosaurs have a basic motivation, but other than their design theme, they just act like normal monsters.

The Druidons are definitely some of the best Sentai villains of the decade, and I think it comes down to the lack of an actual power structure for them. It's just Kreon and one random general character going around at a time. They don't have a house, they don't have an actual boss, and most importantly, they don't have a clue.

That's the part where direct comparisons get a little apples and oranges, and I would argue that most Sentai shows, even the recent ones, manage two good villains, but the difference here is that a boring guy like TankJoh gets booted out of the show entirely in Ryusoulger. It's all very streamlined and there's just no denying that the bad guy antics are far more interesting than they've been in recent years.

I have to disagree with Kiwami hard on the Minusaurs though. Their alleged unique gimmick in how they grow just leads to episodes becoming formulaic in the exact opposite way of normal Sentai, where now it's a forgone conclusion that the Rangers won't be allowed to destroy a monster until it grows big, and like Matrixbeast says, a lot of the time, the plots don't totally capitalize on the whole host dynamic.

Mind you, when they do, it's great, and between that and some of the creative choices for hosts, I'd still say they're above average, but if you're looking for monsters that keep things fresh every week, the Metaroids and Megazords from Go-Busters still stand supreme. You know, robot fights in that show could start AND end at any point during the episode? Including when the Busters were still in the middle of a regular battle? Because it's basically impossible to compete with that variety.

Of course, I'm massively biased towards Go-Busters, so just to sum up:

Ryusoulger has done a very good job with its antagonists, to the point they're probably the best thing about the show. I'm absolutely satisfied with them.

Something else I'd like to add is that Wyzul is starting to become such a nice boss to Kreon that downright borders on Bandora levels. It's just so nice and interesting to see the villains actually have a weird sense of care about each other.

So to those who loved the villains in ToQger, did you like the characters or something else like art direction? And in comparison to later shows do they still hold top place in your personal list of best villains in Super Sentai?
All this Ryusoulger talk got me curious cause I remember people loving them.

Toqger is in my top 3 sentais for a lot of reasons, but yes; something I instantly gravitated towards was the villain designs. It was astonishing how beautiful they looked and they chose the perfect theme to go against the whole super-duper-rainbow-friendship-imagination thing the Toqgers had going for them.

Beyond just the aesthetics though it was fascinating seeing their interpersonal politics at play and how willing some of them were to backstab each other and how they all had different priorities. I remember when Morque came in she instantly became a favourite of mine in how she instantly took control and established "all right, fun and games is over; I'm in charge now, assholes". What a complete badass.

I just hope we don't end up a fruit themed season, would be too weird for a sentai.

No, but we will have a vegetable Sentai. Eat your vegetables kids!

We got a fruit themed Kamen Rider, so if the concept worked for Gaim, why wouldn't it work for Sentai?

Watch the 2020 Sentai be Sports themed, I'm totally calling it.

Does anyone know how Ryusoulger is doing vis-a-vis ratings and toy sales? I've been kind of curious because of all the cancellation rumors from the start of the year, but I haven't really kept up with how the show is performing.

People have been talking about Super Sentai and Kamen Rider being cancled for ages. It almost happened with Liveman, and we are still here today with new shows every year since 1979. Even if Super Sentai does end, I doubt it will be end forever.
