Remind me why Jellicent had damp as a hidden ability. Since Jellicent is both a water and ghost type (ghost being the focus here) wouldn't Jellicent be able to stop explosion and self-destruct by default? Which means damp is pretty much useless on it.

Both are true. Though it is useles in single battles which what we play the most often

I honestly don't see why anyone would run Damp over Water Absorb on a Pokemon that is immune in the first place even in double or triple battles.

Damp itself is useless. Nobody uses Selfdestruct or Explosion anymore since they nerfed them in 5th gen. Damp is only useful for catching Pokemon who will KO themselves preventing you from catching them(Especially shinies!)
