Any predictions to the 2020's sentais ?

I only recently started watching Ryusoulger again, and I noticed something: Tankjo has a tendency to blow-up and come back frequently!
It isn't very surprising for dead villains to return within their own series or a movie/crossover, but it's not common for dead villains to repeatedly get blown-up and return constantly. Villains who appear to blow-up and come back within their own series, for one reason or another: Zylphezza (Diabolico) from GoGoFive blew-up three times at least, Highness Duke Ura (Nayzor) from Gaoranger blew-up four or five times, Mardakko from Kyuranger was known for being revived constantly, and Tankjo blew-up (or appeared to blow-up) five times! Some in this list blew-up both in a human-sized state and as giants, while others had upgraded forms (which were still technically the same characters). I only tallied those who "blew-up-and-came-back-only-to-blow-up-and-come-back-again" within the confines of their own series. Of note, I included instances were someone thinks a character is "dead-by-blow-up" only for them to survive their own explosion (Tankjo is a candidate for this)! These are just the examples I can think of. There maybe someone I am not thinking of, however. |
If the incidents like Kobe earthquake and terrorist attack in Japan never happen, we could had a military-themed sentai.

I will be finishing Car Ranger on Thursday. I actually liked it better than Turbo.
On Thursday I'll start Hurricane Ranger which was adapted as Power Rangers Ninja Storm with 38 for the US. It'll be interesting to see the full 51 weeks. Magi (Magician) Ranger is another one I want to see as Mystic Force - RPM were 32 weeks each for the US. I had recently seen the 07 and 08 series a few years ago. I'm currently watching Mega Ranger next which I'm interested in their version of the Psycho Rangers episodes. Hopefully Shout will be able to soon resume bringing more shows over. |
I liked Carranger better than Turbo too. Even though neither are absolutely mindblowing I'll take a well-executed parody show over something that didn't do either comedy or dark themes that well.
|
I've seen Mighty Morphin Power Rangers - Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel so I'm watching Zyu (Beast) Ranger forward.
Mystic Force - RPM felt way too condensed at 32 weeks each. I've seen the 2007 and 2008 source shows on two of them. Car Ranger is the 2nd Saban Era I series completed for me. |

I'm 20 in on Mega Ranger and should be coming up on Silver Ranger's entry
For Oh (King) Ranger I'm on 20 and about to see Gold Ranger's entry. For Kaku (Hidden) Ranger I'm on the Falcon Zord's entry. Recently I resumed Ginga (Galaxy) Man and have started Disk 2. |
The last series that was out from when I remember watching some super sentai was Ninninger, what was the general reception of the shows post Ninninger like, like which ones are generally good or bad?
|
Zyuohger is pretty good.
And that's about it for post-Ninnin series :lol |
Well that is just one opinion but damn that is damning still, will still probably give the others a try at some point since stuff like Zyuohger and Lupat do look cool, especially Lupat.

LuPat is more what you get out of it, as the Lupins get more focus than the Pats! The disproportionate Mecha numbers between them is evidence of that alone! The villains are still in the marginally acceptable category. I'm not saying that either is terrible, but neither is what they could've been. Modern Sentai gives Villains and Mecha a lot of "hats", but the writers seem to struggle to find that one "magic hat of success", much less reveal the rabbit inside! |

I've been giving Zyuohger more of a thought recently and I'm realising it's easily one of my favourite Sentai, possibly above Gokaiger. Fun cast, wonderful Red, fantastic villains, a downright incredible 6th debut arc, and just all around a great tribute to Sentai by celebrating what it's about rather than getting bogged down in references. Just genuinely great.
Kyuranger has many fantastic points, but for me the Red was so bad he brought the whole show down for me; especially in how he "develops". I actually dislike him more than Takaharu. Still, the space opera and the villains being in charge make for a great change of pace from Sentai's usual fare, and you get some great standout characters in Champ, Stinger, Tsurugi and Shou Ronpo. I'd say it's worth a watch. Lupinranger vs Patranger is a show consistently underlined by its lost potential in how its premise boasted of being different but ultimately just fell into the same old Sentai formula, and there's some particularly annoying toy-related stuff near the end; but look past that and it's pretty nice. It's very much about its characters more than anything and if you come into it from that angle you'll find a lot to enjoy. Ryusoulger I admittedly have not yet seen the final two episodes of, but having watched the rest of the series I'm gonna be this forum's sole defender of the show and say it's pretty great. Perhaps not one of my favourites but it's a bit of a reverse of Lupat: for a show that from its premise looked to be a big repeat for more than one reason, it actually ends up doing a lot of different things. Sure, you've got an Energetic Red once again, but he's not only a lot more reserved than others but he has a fair few layers to him. Yeah it's dinosaurs again, but that's window dressing really to a story that has very little to do with dinosaurs overall. The make-my-monster-grow formula is shaken up, your cast of villains is by and large quite likeable as are your rangers, and there's a lot of surprising twists along the way. There's a lot of points it frustrated me, but at the end of the day I have more positives to say about Ryusoulger than negatives. |
Due to Ninja Storm being 38 weeks I started Hurricane Ranger yesterday on DVD.
I'm also 20 in on the pirate series which became Super Mega Force. Mystic Force - RPM were each 32 weeks so I wanted to see their source shows. I have yet to finish Magi (Magician) Ranger and the one after but did see the next 2 after that. I also need to finish the 3 after Hurricane Ranger. I was going to wait for Shout to release them. |

Due to Jungle Fury and RPM being 32 weeks each it was good to see the source shows for both of them.
I watch the Toei shows for the full story. It was good to see the source for Mega Force Part 1 as they were 20 weeks for each series which you lose a lot of story. Watched 19 episodes of the Pirate series for that reason. The Mega Force Part 1 half could have gotten a full 40 had the 20th not gotten in the way and they were forced to ram the pirate series into the back 20. That was a waste. Dino Charge and Ninja Steel both went 40 weeks for 2 series which is what you need for a full story adaption. Beast Morphers also got a full 40. (Back 20 are airing on Nick) I was interested in the Jetix era as 4 of them were 32 weeks through RPM. I'm a full story kind of guy honestly. |

The show makes it blatantly clear that it's really only about Lupinranger by the halfway mark. This is a big issue since it sells itself on it's creative premise, then abandons it entirely. Quote:

I mean, in terms of marketing, yeah, I guess that's important, but it's like complaining that a Kamen Rider's bike doesn't look cool. It's only just a small part of a larger whole. Quote:
Kyuranger is Annoying. I legitimately cannot stand Lucky. When his catchphrase is uttered on a per-minute basis, occasionally reaching the double digits per episode, it leads to a series that I never wanted to finish. Even though he does under go development, just the fact that I had even considered watching it without sound is a problem. And yeah. LuPat is kind of the epitome of disappointment. What could have been a great back and forth just turned into Lupinrangers making the Patrangers look like shit. Not helped by the worst 6th ranger ever. Noel, his shit eating grin, and his sabotaging the Patrangers just made the series even more unbalanced than it needed to be. |
Currently watching Mega Ranger as somebody who adapted Power Rangers In Space said it was gutted to the core. Also Ginga (Galaxy) Man. In a few weeks likely Go Go 5 on DVD.

Based what Eddy madison said, it's possible the man term return in the Reiwa era ?

Most of the Deathgalien have interesting designs, but aren't all that fleshed-out as characters. Bangray has an incredible power and is just all around dirty! |
Not surprised that Hasbro chose the current Dino Series to adapt. Dinos never get skipped. True they could have saved it for 2023 and Series XXX of Power Rangers.
With them doing a 4th Dino series I'm curious to see what show gets picked in 2023. Power Rangers skipped 4 Series to do it. As for Toei I hope Shout resumes more releases on DVD. |

Ginis himself is a wonderful refreshing change of pace from what were mostly a lot of take-over-the-world/destroy-all-humans types of main villains in a row. Swerving from that into the idea of everything being a game for the villains allows Zyuohger to feel a lot more different even when it's playing by the usual formulas, and even lends a lot more credibility and sense to some of those long-running formulas -- why do they send down one at a time, why do they wait until later to make them grow, etc. It's not quite as good as Go-Busters in what it does, but it reminds me of that season in how minor little touches made it a lot more memorable and lent it more of an identity. The generals as well have a LOT more going for them than most, who usually fall into just being generally powerful characters or at best rivals for the Red. Instead, even though some of it is late-game and only hinted at along the course of the show; we get a lot more backstory and points of interest going on with both. I don't want to spoil either because they're great twists, but both of them end up being wonderful parallels or spoils with the Zyuohgers and the threat of the Dethgaliens in general. And then of course you've got Bangray, who I really like looking back on him. The show could easily have run 50 episodes with its basic premise and villains like most Sentai and been just as fine, but throwing a wrench in the Dethgaliens with Bangray makes for a wonderful change of pace and behind-the-scenes politics. He comes in just late enough and exits just early enough to not outstay his welcome and makes sure the Dethgaliens have to constantly be doing something different, even when their usual shtick alone is so fresh as compared to the past 5 years. |
I've seen Power Rangers Ninja Storm and know that Navy And Crimson join the Rangers after Thunder Strangers.
In Hurricane Ranger the 1st appearance is #07 so when do they join? |
NinjaRed and HurricaneRed appeared in Ninninger and the team gained powers based on theirs.
In a later episode in the series, probably in the middle or toward the end, AkaNinger used both of their powers and seemed to shift into their forms momentarily, almost like a Gokai Change. Does anyone remember this battle, and more specifically, which episode? |
Well at the end of Ninja Steel Part 1 (01 - 20) Brody split the Red Ninja Power Star into 3 and he , Dane and Mick became 3 Red Rangers.
When had it happen in Ninja Ranger? |

Thanks. Saw that part on DVD in Ninja Steel.
Currently watching Time Ranger on DVD. I like it so far but they did the mystery man bit way earlier than Time Force. In Time Force we hadn't seen it till The Time Shadow. Also 5 left for Zyu (Beast) Ranger and final disk. (Shout Release) The 92 Dino series was a decent pick for MMPR I. I can see why Shout released it first on DVD. I may check out Jet Man soon. DVD release. |

Oh, and if anyone is wondering, the five-part competition did not take over a dozen episodes to complete, unbelievable as it might seem. :p |
I started watching Hurricane Ranger on DVD.
Having seen Ninja Storm when do the Navy and Crimson Thunder Rangers join the Wind Rangers? On 08 Wind And Thunder The Thunder Rangers are still evil. Also finished Zyu (Beast) Ranger last night leaving the Ninja series to finish up what was adapted for MMPR. |
