How is the video? How does the quality compare to that of MegaAnon's?

Finished Go-Onger last night, now working on Gekiranger. Once I'm done with Geki, I'll watch the Go-on/Geki movie.
|
I watched the first 4 episodes of GoGoV today that Hikari Senshi has subbed. The subs are kind of terrible. No, the translations are decent (except they translated Saima Clan as Disademon Family for some reason), but if there is on screen text, they translated that and NOT the dialog that is being spoken during that time. There was one time where the dialog was still going when the on screen text disappeared so they translated the last 3 words of the sentence. -_-

Akibaranger S2 Episode 1
And that completely forgives them for the clip show finale. I never laughed that hard at anything in season one, and it was the dumbest things. The ending credits where Malshina is getting service from Rio, Dr Maki working in a Sentai shop. And the story changes make sense to. They needed to explain why Mitsuki isn't there anymore, and I am really looking forward to the new girl. My body is ready~! Akibaranger S2 E2 And I am back to being completely confused. No idea how the new big bad is, no idea what's happening with Dairanger, but enjoying every second regardless. I like the new Blue, she's no Mistuki!, but I like her. And it's nice seeing Moe back in her traditional cat cosplay. And seeing Aoi-Chan :lol But anyway. |
Watched the first episode of Megaranger. It was...surprisingly bad. The core premise has to be one of the dumbest sentai has ever used. It's a shame too because the action is very fun, making great use out of the core gimmick.
I'm sorry but the Megaranger suits are awful. Even when I was a kid I hated them, with their sunroofs, colour tester chests and the way they were just covered in random patterns and colours and yet still so amazingly bland. |

How is it dumb? I think a Sentai passed around technology that is common is actually a great idea. It gives room for a lot of possibilities and even though I'm sure Bandai didn't take full advantage of it, toys. Hell if Megaranger happened today I could see a phone app based around the idea of it. Plus it gives a good balance between the super power and military Sentais. Yes Megaranger works for a corporation, but it isn't military based. Do you think it's dumb because it's kids as rangers? I admit it is weird that INET would just continue to allow the group to use the devices and powers, but really it's no different then what Zordon did. Or any other teenage based Power Rangers or Sentai. Is it because it's based on a video game but never really mentioned again outside of the henshin sequence with the helmets? I'll give you that one. It does suck that there wasn't more video game like stuff going on, but hardly a reason to say it's dumb. Yeah it's a dropped plot point, but we've had worse throughout Sentai, Power Rangers, and even Kamen Rider. So do tell me, how is Megaranger dumb exactly? |
Why would you put a training program in an arcade? AN ARCADE. OF ALL PLACES?! They are surprised they didn't have Megaranger candidates? Oh really? I wonder why that is? Maybe it's because you put the training module in a hive of children, teenagers and obese men and women, you would have probably been better off putting it in a crack den.
|
So? They put flight simulators in video game format and in museums. Mind you they don't start that way or are used to test for pilots but still. Yeah it's a bit weird but really, I can't complain because it gets the characters somewhat where they need to be. Maybe INET just figured they'd put out into the public and privately use it as a simulator and let the public play it as a game?
Also what's with the obese men and women part? Are you implying that outside of kids and teenagers there would only be obese people in an arcade? |
Quote:
All I'm saying is, if they wanted a place to find Megaranger's they'd target a gym or a training camp or SOMETHING. You wouldn't pick the place where greasy teenagers are stood around wasting their youth, an arcade seems like one of the worst possible choices. |

Well, I just finished watching the first episode of Abaranger, since I finally found it on Youtube and it was great, just like some of my buddies said. I just loved the fact that the Abarangers could communicate with their dinosaurs, just one of those simple things.
Man, I wish they did that in Dino Thunder, it would've been great to see. |
To be honest, I did not care for MegaRanger all that much the first time I started watching it. However, I don't know what it was, but I suddenly had this impulse to give the show a second try and it was great, especially the villains and they get some really good development throughout the show. I would say MegaRanger is probably closer to my 15th favorite Sentai series, but in the long run, it is a very good one. Yugande is freaking badass.

"Are you all familiar with that video game that is actually a training exercise for superheroes? What, you aren't? Well fuck it put these on anyway, they can do all the work for you so I dunno why we even set up this incredibly thin and stupid premise doopdeedoo!" |
Finally watched the last stretch of Dairanger Episodes.
I loved them...and at the same time I am absolutely infuriated by them. The whole plot twist with Master Kaku was brilliant and made me wish the whole show was about the Gorma infighting. On the other hand Episode 45 & 46 alone made me go from "I dont particular care for the Dairangers but I dont dislike him" to "I hate every single one of those five Idiots". Was it so hard for them to trust their Masters plan? Instead they walked around and fought against him and his companion. I never saw myself hoping that the heroes would finally lose so Kaku could get rid of their powers. Another thing I really really didnt care about was the whole the Gorma are actually Puppets thing it came far to late in the show for me to really care. Another thing I liked was the fact that the war between the Dairanger and the Gorma can never end but yet again they bring it up so late in the game that it wouldnt change anything if they just left it out exactly like the thing with the Gorma puupets Overall I gotta say I dont hate Dairanger. I dont like it yes but I dont hate it and there are things to enjoy about this show but certainly not enough for me. |
Okay, watched the first episode of Megaranger.
I can see where Locke is getting at concerning how dumb it could get (If the suits are programmed to fight, why do they need specific candidates?), but eh. It's a Sentai where the red ranger isn't a Japanese Jesus, so I'm gonna stick with it. It had solid action, which also helps. |

Though, Black and Red are the only ones with useful powers. Pink's would be more useful if the show was airing a decade later, but as it stands, I don't quite think cell phone hacking is that useful in 1997... |
Megaranger 01
It was an alright first Episode all things considered. The Acting ranged from Ok to downright terrible though especially the Arcade Bully was atrocious :lol The Story setup is pretty typical for Sentai but lets see what they do with it. The Arcade thing was pretty dumb though. I like the idea in and of itself but the whole Plotpoint is made superflous when they tell us that the Suits are preprogrammed with certain fighting moves. Everyone could have used them so why set up dozens or hundreds of Testsimulators if it really doesnt matter in the end. Actionwise it was pretty solid and I liked that we saw their Helmets telling them how to fight their Enemies. I dont know how to feel about the Characters yet since we dont know much about them but they all seem pretty likeable so far. I gotta say though its really hard for me not to hear Endorfs/Shinken Reds Dads Voice when Mega Blue talks :lol Like the Story the Villains are not very original but get the Job done and I always love me some Villains that attack the Heroes home base right at the beginning of the show :D Megaranger 02 A really good follow up to the first Episode and can pretty much be seen as the second half of a two parter. We get alot more information regarding their powers and why those five are pretty much the only people right now who can fight Nezirezia. I also got a better sense for their personality even if its still not much :lol The Henshin though feels really boring. Their is absolutely no Energy to it and doesnt really get me pumped for the action scenes even though they are pretty well made. I also really dig the Designs of the Heroes in this show especially the Helmets feel very unconventional and kinda otherworldly. Their Mecha looks really cool and the combination sequence of Galaxy Mega was also pretty cool. The fight was a very basic first fight an not much to write home about. The Villains are still really generic but they seem to have some connection to the Megaranger powers if I understood the implications correctly. Together with the first Episode it was a really solid start to the season and I am looking forward to more. Megaranger 03 Now that we got the introduction for the setting out of the way its time to dwelve more into the characters. In this Episode we learn more about the Knight of Hatred...I mean the 17th Head of the Shiba Clan and by that I mean Mega Blue aka Shun :lol Shun is that no nonsense calm type of Character that has his mind set on his goals and knows exactly how to achieve them. With such a rather cold personality its only natural that he clashes with the hotheaded Kenta and the rest of the Episode its pretty much them learning more about each other and them kinda becoming friends. I gotta say I like Shun even though he was a pretty big ass at the beginning of this Episode and seemed very full of himself but as soon as he learned he doesnt have to do everything on his own he became much more likeable. The Henshin this week was alot more awesome than the last two times :lol In regards to the action it was again really solid but my favorite part has to be the figth with Galaxy Mega. It wasnt flashy or even that long but I really like the robots personality. The Villains still didnt do much and I really have problems remembering their names xD It was a solid Episode again and I expect every one of them to get a focus Episode before the show starts to dwelve into a more involved storyline. Megaranger 04 A pretty good Episode like last time and we got to learn more about Koichi aka Mega Black. He is pretty much the strong big brother type of this show like Mammoth Ranger and Gao Black in their respective seasons. I really like how he takes being a Megaranger so overly serious with his micromanagement :lol He also got the best fight scene of the show thus far and it perfectly showed what I love about Super Sentai. He has no problems to fight off the Monster but he cant completely destroy it without the help of his Teammates. The Design of the Monster was really awesome this Episode and hey it comes with its own Internet connection :lol The one thing though that was really weird was the Mentors speech about the Internet being the cause of people getting hurt. It sounded like he completely forgot for a moment who the actual enemy was xD Megaranger 05 By far my favourite Episode yet and surprisingly its not a focus Episode for one of the heroes...but for their Mecha. Galaxy Mega is slowly turning into my absolute favorite Mecha. Not because of his Design or his weaponry but he has what so few Sentai Robos have...a personality. He doesnt talk like DaiZyuJin but he hast that certain aura around him that makes him into a character in its own right. I really liked how they made him move and feel completely different when he is not Piloted by the Megaranger. Also that fight scene with Ebi Nezire was freaking brutal. Storywise it was the classic "The Human heart will always be stronger than a machine"trope but it was really well executed. You got a real feeling that the five Heroes and especially Kenta care for Galaxy Mega. |
I just love all the attention Megaranger is getting now ^^

Megaranger 06
Finally we got some needed character focus for one of the girls. Miku is a pretty nice character. She is not portrayed as overly cutesy like I thought at first. I really liked how she didnt bullshit around with the guy of who she thought had the knowledge of her being Mega Pink. She actually went on a full on date with him and tried to make him happy while trying to get the informations out of him. The whole scene with them trapped in the generator chamber was also very well done. You really felt her struggle to make the decision to either transform in front of him and expose her secret or keeping her identity a secret and get them potentially killed. I really liked how they explained that the Megaranger couldnt just use Galaxy Mega to rescue them and were forced to use the Digi Tank. Liked the Miniatures used for the Digitank scenes even though the generator Chamber looked overly huge during them :lol The Cameo by Takumi Hashimoto (Tiger Ranger/Boi) was really cool and I liked that they used another location I visited during my holidays in Tokyo :D Megaranger 07 This Episode kinda confused me a bit. The Eyecatch made it look like the desperately needed Chisato Episode but It mostly revolved around Kouichi. Its nice to see more of him though. Him not understanding the other gender was a nice touch and you really felt with him cause that girl was annoying as hell :lol The rest of the Episode wasnt that special to be honest. Shiborenas plan was kinda cool but the Galaxy Mega fight and the other action scenes werent as spectacular this time around. All in all I thought this was one of the weaker Episodes thus far but it had some nice moments sprinkled in. |
Meanwhile, I just tackled episode 6. I figured the photos he had weren't of what she initially thought, but it was still a fun episode all the same.
However, there was one major problem, and that was if Miku presumed that the photos were of her transforming into Mega Pink, why did she wait so long to attempt to transform? It's the flaw of secret identities, and basically the questioning of "What point does a dire situation warrant revealing their secret to save lives?" Anyway, the tease at the end was cute, and this episode was nice. The justification of the Digi Tank was fine, too. |
It's time for me to rewatch Kyoryuger with a revised episode listing that cuts out all the filler, thanks to Kamen Rider Lucha. I'll be watching the first four episodes straight, before cutting straight over to episode nine!
But first things first, humble beginnings and episode one... As this a fresh start, I'm gonna watch and review as if it's the first time and leave my own prejudice at the door. The opening of this episode, is epic. Seeing the Deboss return on a world wide scale is just incredible, sentai has never felt so big. There is just this 'dial everything to eleven' approach to the episode that I super appreciate. Like how the first villain LITERALLY MADE THE DINOSAURS GO EXTINCT ON HIS OWN. It also makes the team feel all the more powerful, as well, as they're introduced as fighting individually across the whole planet. It promises a team without weaklinks. Yes, even the pink one. And hey if that didn't promise it, the fact they have to physically defeat giant robot dinosaurs UNMORPHED before they can even get their powers will surely convince you otherwise. Plus I like the whole secret identity angle, that they're gonna have to get to know each other across the series. It makes a refreshing change. I pretty much enjoyed everyone, but Cadelira and her assistant were annoying in an otherwise cool looking set of villains. King was painfully obnoxious and had no real right to be and Torin is just awful. Sadly, for a show with so much energy, it's a shame the action was such a mixed bag. The actually quality of the effects was surprisingly poor, the CGI was terrible and the plasticness of the weapons was downright ugly. Plus the camera really needs to calm down, it was actually hurting my eyes at points because of the thrashing. On the flip side, it's damn flashy and the giant stuff is really well integrated. Although I like the Kyoryuger suits a lot, I really don't like the transformation. Firstly the samba dancing is awful and has absolutely no context, but I also hate how his weapon vanishes. They do that a lot in toku for some reason. He was literally holding it all episode, so it really drew your attention to it for it to suddenly not being there when he transformed. It was even more annoying as well, because the first weapon he fights with transformed is a sword, which comes out of nowhere and is gone in the next scene. |

I hope in Dino Charge Aigron is the 'Knight of Fear' rather than sorrow, sorrow doesn't really fit. Not to mention that a pile of junk makes no sense either. Still Aigron seems kinda dumb, but seeing him swat that finishing move aside with relative ease says that he ain't no joke. Disappointed the secret identity thing is being undone already, I get that they couldn't have done it for the whole show but it was interesting and fresh and seems a shame. At least it gave way to character focus already. Really enjoying Nobu and King. I know we learn a lot about Ami as well, but the whole 'I may be a princess but I can kick your ass' archetype is a really tired one. Nossan on the other hand, being the comic relief character and all, it was nice to see him so fiercely protective of his family and actually have characterisation rather than bein just simply.... there. Plus, as King is the red, it was nice seeing him help out his team and the general public and just really earn his colour, especially as the team aren't really a team yet. The transformation is still horrible, from Daigo holding the toy right to the camera, to turning up in an entirely different location to the illfitting dancing to once again getting a sword from nowhere as the gun vanishes. Luckily the action was way better this time. Absolutely love the high energy and style from KyoryuRed and KyoryuGreen's suit actors. Plus, although I don't normally like toku giant stuff, so far this show has done it pretty well. I love Kyoryuzin's design and although I still hate the low production values of these sections, I admit I'd sooner take plasticy appearance and CG movement over the usual looks like cardboard appearance of the robos. I've got no excuse for the cockpit or the combination though, both of which I think are horrible and I hope Dino Charge changes. |
Megaranger 08
A really good Episode after I was a little disappointed last time. Finally we get more Focus on the Villains especially Yugande and Dr. Hineler as Yugande lures Kenta into an artificial Dimoension to have a duel one on one without the other Megaranger interfering. I liked that the show called back to the fact that our five heroes werent friends at the beginning and Kenta was pretty much just a loner who hung out at the arcade. His fiery personality that helped him during his time as a hero is now his biggest downfall as he rushes into the fight with Yugande without help ultimately getting one of his Teammates severly injured. We also learn more about the past of Dr.Kubota who up until now was pretty much a non factor in the show. I really liked how the show paralleled Kentas situation with an experience Kubota made during his time at Inet when they first discovered the Nezirezia and his Collegue who (not unlike Kenta) only trusted in his own skills vanished as he tried to cross over into the Nezirezia Dimension. Glad to see the Show getting back to its main storyline after the last Episodes were mostly done in ones. |
It's really rather refreshing to watch Megaranger. Kenta isn't perfect. Kenta isn't the main focus of 80% of the show. Watching Mega Red gives me the sense that I'm following a character, and it's such fun. While I'm not a big fan of Kenta's particular character archetype, I'll take what I can get if it means the Red ranger isn't cut from the same cloth Daigo or Marvelous is.

Megaranger 09
Not much to talk about in this Episode. Another focus Episode for Chisato and I dont know what to think about her. I dont really get her personality she is not really a Tomboy but also not the girly type.I got from this Episode that she has a strong sense for doing the right thing but isnt bothered to really think about what she is doing when she accuses people. The Villain plot is so wonderfully outdated and the design for Komori Nezire was really cool. Loved the little bats coming out of its body. |
Kyoryuger 03.
Maybe it's all destined to go horribly south, but I must say I'm really enjoying these opening episodes. Even by sentai standards, the budget for this show feels huge. There is just so many people fighting on screen at once, all fighting with their own unique styles and firing off their own special attacks, it's just madness and so awesome. I understand that it is partly because the team isn't defined yet, but still each member feels independent and that makes a very refreshing change. It's funny because the suit for Debo Jailcell was actually a lot cooler than Master Dogold's, I'll never understand why the generals get the worse suits. But that seems to happen a lot in toku. |
Megaranger 10
Definately one of the best Episode the show has gotten so far. I really like Shun as a characterand this one made him really shine. It was nice to get some informations about his past and that he seems to be really popular with the ladies. You could really feel the dilemma he was in and how he wasnt willing to give up on someone who made him happy even if that someone could potentially hurt him. His fight against Neo Komori Nezire was extremely well done. The whole way through you could feel Shuns emotions in every strike and you bought that he was pretty pissed :lol The Episode was also a nice foreshadowing on what could potentially await us in the future of the show. Megaranger 11 Yet another Chisato Episode that was just okay, seems to be a pattern in this show xD I really dont dislike her and she is really likeable in her own right but I still feel there is something missing. She doesnt have that little something that makes her Character pop like with the other Megaranger. The Episode was like I mentioned earlier just okay. It had really nice action scenes and I dig Chisatos Arm Blade. The Monster was really creepy looking and I hope now that Shiborena and Chisato have that kinda sorta rivalry going on both of them get that special something in their personalities. |

I think all you'll miss from that jump is the debut of Ramirez (the spirit ranger, KyoryuCyan) in episodes 5&6. I think Ramirez is a worthless character, so I consider this a public service. :lol Quote:

The only Deboss general suit that I like is Candelira's. That zipper-mouthed gimp/fetish mask over the sugar-sweet pinkness of the rest of her is so disturbing. |
