Has anyone else seen this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrSaTHsHNsc It might not be official, but if the actual anniversary is 1/10 as awesome as this, I will be pleased. And possibly dead by overexposure to awesome |
This comes from Doctor Who and the TARDIS on Facebook, who got it from the Doctor Who page on Facebook.
12th Doctor Revealed on Sunday Normally Doctor Who TV is wary of writing up”big announcements”, especially when there has been a string of rumours lately that have amounted to nothing. However, it’s finally happening! Press sources have leaked that the BBC will finally announce the 12th Doctor this weekend. ... A special programme on will air this Sunday 4 August at 7pm on BBC1 entitled Doctor Who Live: The Next Doctor. A deliberate disposable repeat of Celebrity Mastermind is currently listed in the timeslot. The show is going to be filmed in front of a live studio audience with Zoe Ball unveiling the next Doctor. The show will also feature interviews with past Doctors and companions. Interestingly, this week saw Peter Capaldi inexplicably leap to the top of the bookies lists. Is this because he’s won the role? We’ll find out soon enough. The BBC are expected to officially confirm the programme at midnight. -=-=-=- Sunday Baby Yea! |
I just saw that too. Seems quite likely we'll get an announcement soon.
|
So I looked up Peter Capaldi on Google, I know faces not names. And honestly? I cannot hate this if he ends up being our Doctor. He was amazing in Torchwood: Children of Earth and The Fires of Pompeii Doctor Who episode. I loved him on The Thick of It. I can't hate this.
|
Peter Capaldi seems just a little bit older than I'd like for the character. I definitely don't want someone as young as Matt Smith again but he just seems a bit more weathered.

Yeah, no to Capaldi please. He was great on Torchwood but The Thick of It is a really overrated show. Not that it has any influence on his acting talent, I just don't consider him Doctor material.
I don't think anyone particularly well known is going to get this role anyway. The whole point of them casting relative unknowns is that way said person is more likely to commit to more than one season. |

I'd be grateful for Capaldi on principle, we need an old Doctor again, we need to be reminded that teenage girls aren't the only members of the fanbase. I have no problem with young, attractive Doctors in themselves (inb4 people call me butthurt) but it's the fact that his appearance was suddenly all the show talked about, that is what eventually soured me on Tennant and really put me off of Smith. Especially Clara who was basically the Doctor's girlfriend rather than his companion (and Rose before her) and I just think that is so wrong for the character, he is supposed to be alien and disconnected, that is why I liked Donna so much, the one and only companion who didn't spend every episode like a Victorian Orphan looking into the bakery shop window.
Plus it certainly helps that Capaldi is a fantastic actor, I hope if he is cast we get a nice classic Doctor again. A loveable, eccentric who is basically your Granddad but also happens to usher you to other worlds, I guess just like your Granddad probably did when you were a kid. |
BBC and Moffat have codenamed this new Doctor Houdini. Let the wild speculation of it being Rupert Grint begin with me! Come on Rupert! Then Emma Watson can take over Clara and merge two fandoms into one unstoppible force of nerd!

Can not wait to see him in action
|
Peter Capaldi.
I don't know much about him (but do remember him in the Fires of Pompeii episode), but I do think his look works. I had a feeling they'd go with the older Doctor route. (My secret hope is that it will quiet down the crazy fangirls. :P) |
Thoughts on this new development: He's British (and still not ginger :( ) He seems older, and I like that somehow. It will bring a new dynamic to the show, although when I first saw pictures of him I thought he looked more like the Master. I can't think of anyone better though. Now to just wait until the 50th anniversary for the next episode
|
I'm definitely interested to see how Capaldi turns out. I read on Twitter that he played the angel Islington in the BBC version of Neverwhere from the 90s. It's been awhile since I saw that, but I remember him being very good in it. I really look forward to seeing what he brings to the Tardis.

So this needs shared here too. Just a little something I noticed...
Peter Capaldi was apparently in World War Z as an unnamed doctor working for the organization WHO. Coincidence or not, that is freaking amazing. |
Did anyone else notice that when the hostess of the Press Conference Reveal whatever mentioned, just suggested, that maybe the Doctor could be female.. the room went silent. Like drop a pin and it'll echo like Church Bells on your head silent.
Sad. I would love a female Doctor. |

Plus, being male is an inherent part of his psychology, but having watched Dax in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, this reason was not as strong for me as it used to be. Peter Capaldi? Terribly excited. I think this is the first time one of those pre-announcement rumors actually turned out correct! |

The Doctor has always been designed to fill a patriarchal role that's been somewhat lost with the last few younger Doctors, and changing his sex takes away that essence of the character. Good female characters are ones that are created from scratch, not ones that are adapted from male ones. |
