What do you mean "like I believe"? Toriyama literally said that in an interview today. They're doing arcs for both films that are lead-ins and retell the stories. I'm not inferring that, Toriyama said is much in an actual interview.

I can't say what Toriyama said because I am avoiding as much as I can on Super. However, what I mean by "what you believe" is the way I am reading your post is that you are making it sound like the first 50+ episodes are going to lead up to Battle of Gods and then rewrite the entire movie from scratch.

So Im guessing no one caught the stream of the first episode of Super this afternoon? I completely forgot about it but apparently it's getting great reviews right now. Some short clips and screenshots are floating around right now, raws for download haven't cropped up yet but subs should be in by tomorrow.

I caught the stream of the first episode RAW. It felt so cool watching the first DB series in almost 20 years in real time. I love the first episode and it felt like a classic Toriyama dragon ball episode/chapter. The scene where couple at the jewellery stores reaction to Goten and Trunks flying was hilarious. I notice things play differently from the manga chapter of Super since Beerus destroys a planet in half with his finger nail then blowing up completely. We also didn't get the scene of Goku killing Freeza, Cell and Buu when day dreaming. I happen to like that scene in the manga chapter.The animation was good too and I can't wait to watch it subbed. I think the series is off to a good start and I hope retellings of the last two movies won't drag out too long. We don't need 50 episodes to beat Beerus when we know what happens.

I've heard it was good, but I'm going to wait until after I see Resurrection F. Don't want to spoil myself just in case.

You know I'm all in for Super, I just watched the first episode and I liked it and I'm very much looking forward to the next episode because Vegeta Family Trip. But why do they waste time retelling the movies? Everyone watched those, they are a big reason why this show even exists.

Can't they just start with something new?

I saw it subbed and I like it better a second time. I think if they are going to retell the events of the last two movies then I hope they do something different with it.

Since it is before BoG, I watched it and loved it. However, Beerus shouldn't even be awake right now, so clearly BoG is no longer canon.

I think Battle of Gods and Revival of F are likely set in a different dimension similar how Toriyama views the old DB/Z movies. Toriyama said in Daizenshuu 6 that he views DBZ Movies 1-13 as “stories in a different dimension from the main story of the comic”. Since the new movies are getting getting readapted then it seems likely that he will view BOG, ROF and GT as stories set in a different dimension/world.

Are they still going to make movies after Revival of F? Because I see it as pretty pointless to release a movie only for it to be retold and decanonized a year or two later.

Maybe, who knows.

Given that Super is supposed to be on for the next four-ish years, I would expect to see a new movie every year even if they do start going back to the non-canonical side story style.

I like so fare episode one explains how goku suddenly went to king Kai for.training plus we don't how many year or months been before battle of gods so beerus being up to just destroy a planet then relax and go back sleep before movie I can see working. Retelling of the movie would be awesome if done right. I just hope animation don't get One Piece treatment and become lazy later. Like dressorasa arc in one piece.

This episode was 6 months after Boo's defeat while Battle of Gods is 5 years after. In BoG, WHis tells Beerus that he has been asleep for 30 years.

De-canonizing the movie after one episode seems extremely dumb to me, especially since the Beerus stuff added absolutely nothing to the episode anyway.

Other than that, it was a pretty good start.

I really enjoyed the first episode of Dragon Ball Super; I love both Trunks and Mr. Satan's Japanese Voice Actors much better than the English and everyone else except for Goku is pretty good. I am excited and intrigued with where this is going.

I actually hate the Japanese voice actor Mr Satan they have now. Daisuke Gori was so much superior and it is disappointing that Toei didn't even try to get someone that sounded like him to voice Satan.

I take that the 2008 Jump Special is also getting ignore in Super if BOG and ROF being retcon to happen right after the Buu saga. In Yo Goku and his Friends Return, Videl said that the world believes that Mr. Satan beats Buu while in Super, no one has the memories of Majin Buu expect for Goku and his friends and family.

Well Battle of the Gods is still going to happen, but they're changing events around it to I assume make it fit better with the overall direction of the series. At the moment the only change is that Beerus is awake rather than sleeping for 39 years of however long it was, but I still don't see the point of just making BotG a side thing when it contributed so heavily to Super happening in the first place.

Which is how it should have been anyway since they did erase Boo from everyone's mind in Z and the manga.

I guess they could have Tarble join the events of ROF when Freeza arrives. I never like how Vegeta was not surprise by Tarble being alive and having a little brother. Vegeta said when Trunks first show up that he said that only him, Goku and Gohan where the only saiyans left. Either Vegeta likes to pretend that his brother does exist or it's another plot hole in the series.

Nope. Bulma even went so far as to mention him in Battle of The Gods. Confounding even further why Toriyama would go so far out of his way to make everything no longer sync up properly. Or at least as close to properly as it did before.

To be fair, it's not like there weren't plotholes before. Lunch and the number of wishes Dende's Shenron can give come to mind.

I looked up the opening for Dragon Ball Super, it's a good song, i like it.

Not to mention even the manga has plot holes too since Cell said that he won't be able to regenerate if his nucleus in his head is destroyed. Goku's attack should have destroyed the nucleus when he blew his body in half or died when he blew up King Kai's planet. Not to mention Future Trunks said that the cyborgs from the future are #19 & #20. However, we later learn that they are actually #17 & #18, and Trunks doesn't recognize #19 & #20 when he sees them (I know the full story behind Toriyama not using #19 and #20 as plan. However a hole in the story is a plot hole).

Dragon Ball is far from perfect when it comes to writing. I don't mind minor plot holes, but big ones are the ones that bother me.

Being far from perfect and then throwing out the basic premise of the movie that helped relaunch the franchise are very different things :lol

Exactly, that's what bothers me the most about redoing Battle of the Gods. It just seems pointless. I've seen people on other forums being all "well it's to cater to kids who can't afford to go see the movies in the cinema etc" but its not like this first episode was exactly welcoming to newcomers. It's fair to assume most people who are watching this will have at least seen or plan to see Battle of the Gods at some point.

It confuses me as well, they have basically two movies that already build up this new setting and they could just start the show after Revival of F (time wise).

It actually makes me less interested in the show that they take this route now.

Yeah, I really don't like that we're revisiting plots that were already covered in movies. He should have just started after. It really did turn me off Super a bit. :/

I think we can explain that one because time paradox, that's what i always assumed.
