Sentai is a show for kids, but it usually doesn't pander to them. It treats them as intelligent beings and doesn't talk down to them. Mandora Boy, I feel, is pandering. Simple as that.

And has anyone noticed that the core team always call Kinji "Star-san"? It's ironic and somehow related to the previous show where Akira keeps calling the main 5 "ToQGers".

Well that's true but the only reason they call him star-san is because he hasn't told them his name.

No, there are times he told them, but they keep calling him like that on purpose. I guess there'll be an act where they acknowledge him as a family member.
