I finally got around to watching Ultraman Arc. Currently 12 episodes in.
The short of it was that I rather enjoyed the first six episodes for what they were, but the latter six left alot to be desired. The first half was pretty simplistic and fun, no issues there. But the second half attempts at going a bit deeper in terms of narrative, and the writing ends up falling flat in alot of ways. For example, episode 7 is makes the argument that you need to sacrifice some of the comforts of today in order to bring about a better tomorrow, yet two episodes later, episode 9 makes the argument that doing so is insensitive if not outright bad. And that's not even getting into how I felt both episodes were weak. And as someone who was fond of Blazar overall, the episode 11 and 12 two-parter kinda felt like a really weak Blazar fanfic. The Communication theme in and of itself is nice, but the way the message and the overall scenario is executed rubbed me the wrong way. My main issue being that every character was acting rather boneheaded to the point of being out of character. The biggest example of that being Yuma, who after getting the message from Givas' pilot, completely blanks afterward and has to be told by Rin the exact thing that said message told him in order to save the day, when if anything it should be the reverse. This latter half really got me thinking about the old saying of "beauty in simplicity" and how that might be more of Arc's' strength. But hey, maybe later episodes will surprise me. On a more positive note, the directing and cinematography on these episodes has been top notch; with every action sequence being rather cool to see. I really do appreciate the effort being put in toward making every Kaiju encounter feel unique from episode to episode. And all of that is only highlighted by just how cool all of Arc's' unique finishers have been. These aspects alone bring something to look forward to with every episode, and I hope that they never really go away as I get further in. So, yeah. Mixed feelings so far, but I will say that I am liking the show more than not as of right now. |
I watched the first episode of Omega too. Honestly seems like a great start, an Earth that has never dealt with kaiju before is one of those things I am shocked the series has never really done before and Sorato and Kosei were both very charming.
Unfortunately, what I am actually here to talk about is Ultraman Trigger which was... bad. Quite bad, I actually feel a little guilty for harping on Blazar so much now. I'll start with the positives: there are unique ideas like Ultra being known to some, but not all, of his allies from the start. Sometimes the show got a laugh out of me too. But overall, it just had so many half-baked, half-coherent things going on that it just completely failed to do almost anything right. I think the best example of this is how we know almost nothing about the regular cast outside of the main group. They're utterly flat, and the mains are barely better to be honest, with lots of rushed and bizarre plotlines for them. Akito's dead parents? Who cares I guess. Kengo's incomprehensible backstory where he exists because of a time paradox? Agh. Yuna has a plot about forging her own destiny I guess, but she's given so little agency in the early parts of the show and then spends the later parts getting inconveniently kidnapped a lot of the time. Let's not even get into the legions of male characters tripping over themselves to simp for her. Ignis doesn't seem to add much to the show besides being hammy, just kind of a walking security issue that GUTS-Select doesn't seem all that worried about. The Tiga references also do the show absolutely no favors, at best making the story predictable and at worst making me wistfully think about how I wished I was watching Tiga instead. Dialogue and individual episodes... also not very good. I think the only thing that really stuck out about it visually to me was the fact it actually used a moderate amount of fake blood, which is unusual for New Gen shows. A show where the only "Smile, smile!" I was doing was a wry one. I'm sort of hoping I will have some kind of inverted reaction to Decker and actually like it, since I like Tiga but not Dyna! |
Quote:
Though I feel like Ignis had such a charisma and and an actually solid character arc that it made him a good secondary Ultra. Also the Dark Giants being very standout presences in the show are one of the few saving graces' of Trigger on-top of the suits/fights. And the theme song. |
Quote:
The Dark Giants didn't really capture me, but I think the villain game is pretty weak in most Ultra shows to be honest. Not a deal breaker for me. Their suits are really neat though. In terms of fights... You know, I typically love me some Koichi Sakamoto but for some reason the only Ultra show I really loved him directing for was Ginga S. I don't think that show used slowed down fight footage like most Ultra shows do, which is my best guess as to why. The speed of his choreography is important to me. The theme song is great though, this is one thing I can wholeheartedly praise about Trigger. |

I guess colonizing Mars means Earth has already made deeper connections to aliens. Quote:
I loved Ginga and Geed! I think some of the fights in Trigger were pretty good too. |
Yeah, there's a reason that Trigger is probably still the most contentious New Gen Ultra show. I say this even as someone who still managed to enjoy Trigger by the end of it, but I feel the biggest root issue of Trigger is that it doesn't feel like it has a strong creative vision behind it. Every other New Gen show feels like the direct result of the production teams specific intent. Even if they got hampered in some way, they all still at least felt like they came out the way its creatives intended. Trigger however doesn't feel like that, it doesn't feel the result of anyone's specific vision. This is a feeling that's all the more backed up by various statements made after the show, wherein the production shared that they had various different ideas on how Trigger was going to homage Tiga, most notably one where the show would have been about 3 separate protagnists who each transformed into one of the forms of Trigger. However for one reason or another, whether it was higher up demands or the show being filmed during the height of Covid, the show was then made to become more Tiga-like and I feel the end result is pretty evident of those production issues.
|
I was also watching Arc alongside Trigger, and now Arc is complete. This is actually a really solid one, probably my third favorite New Generation show! I think a lot of this comes down to the fact that, to me at least, it had a sense of whimsy and wonder to it that captures the fundamental appeal of the Ultra series. Arc has a lot of creativity in his fights and the episodes are often a bit surreal. The visual identity of this show is also fantastic, so many cool and unusual camera angles and scenes! Yuma is also what I would consider a very "classic" Ultraman protagonist, who has a good balance of kindness and toughness. He's very sweet and I really liked him and his dynamic with the rest of the team. I also appreciated that they weren't really a defense team, more of a public service government organization, one that was clearly a bit lacking resources but doing their best. It's a personal thing, but it reminds me of my own job so I found it quite relatable, haha... The show generally has a bright, hopeful atmosphere, but it has a hint of melancholy too. Probably my biggest issue with the show is simply that not every episode was as good as I wished it was. DreamSword mentioned 7 and 9 up above, which I think are both episodes that have interesting concepts, but executions that left me a bit disappointed (even if I am willing to interpret their shared theme as "kaiju don't exist for human convenience"). Still, it's a solid, classic, sweet little show that I was quite happy with!

Happy Ultraman Day! Honestly this commemorative video felt better than the Gundam Day video (yes, I've been getting into Gundam).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHTEeD3veLI In other words, all this talk about some of the recent Ultra Shows gives me some retrospective on the Tiga/Dyna Successor Shows. While I haven't finished Tiga (I intend to) yet, I can appreciate the angle they wanted to go, and I loved some of the ideas they were going for it with the support characters being in the know on Ultraman, but it did feel a little too "modern day Tiga" to the point it felt like it wanted to be Tiga more than a successor or a celebration of it. Overall, I don't dislike it, but I would say it's probably one of the weakest of the New Generation. Though the songs still slap. Since someone here's on their way to explore Decker, I'll hold off on any big discussions or overall thoughts, but I will say that I think it's better than Trigger but also has some things that make it worse than Trigger if I'm honest. Also, I haven't even watched Dyna, so I can't make any direct comparisons, but it does come across less like a "modern day Dyna" that Trigger was for Tiga, to me at least. |

Vis ? vis Trigger, I?ve always felt that it kind of set a very high bar for itself by being both a loose remake of one of the most beloved series in the franchise and having to be the show that?s followed Z. It had some neat ideas, but got too caught up in trying to follow the premise of that one Tiga movie and leaning way too hard on a shallow catchphrase protagonist. |

Trigger was really just so entirely underwhelming, such a disappointment. |

From what the production notes, that does kinda seem to be what happened.

There's a Kaiju Corpse and a girl in a world that has never before faced or recognized Kaiju even as a concept...and so of course yet ANOTHER one has shown up in Japan!
The OP is a pretty classic and rockin' Ultraman OP! Bonus points for fitting in the title cards like a Showa Ultra OP! And we've got Sorato, Kosei, Ayumu...and of course, the Meteor Kaiju and Omega's armored forms! I'm guessing all those emblems flying into the screen are the Meteor Kaiju and Omega? Omega is the man of the hour but right now he wants to devour magazines like Kaminaga devoured books and basically freeload off Kosei and his food. Because yes, they are totally roommates now. And this isn't the kind of Ultra show where Kosei can just turn in an alien and expect people to believe him, so he's stuck with Omega and getting dragged to spots with active Kaiju situations. What's an Ultra Host to do if they're not part of an officially sanctioned Attack Team who has permission to visit Kaiju locations? Why just jump around an official blockade of course! Omega taking Kosei into the sky is becoming their thing. I think Omega might have the biggest appetite of any Ultra I've seen. Granted it seems like he gets tired/exhausted from using his powers so he needs the fuel. Ayumu is a cute fledgling biologist who finds herself in the unenviable task of having to handle this outbreak of Kaiju that no one understands, not even herself, but she's a very dedicated person so she's putting her all into it. She's even nice enough to let Omega have her lunch, even as he complains about it. Thank goodness Omega, no SORATO, has Kosei because he probably couldn't maintain a secret identity to save his life. Kosei comes up with his human name on the spot, comes up with a cover story, and even makes Sorato maintain his cover or else he won't get his precious food! Dugrid, the Poison Lizard! What he lacks in arm length he makes up for in his big mouth and poison toxins he spews from his back! They can even be used to launch a headbutt! I like how Omega's transformation is kind of a mix of Ultraseven and traditional Ultraman...we see Sorato's body morph into Omega, but he still gets the traditional Rise sequence. It was nice to see Omega fighting for Ayumu's sake because she worked so hard, and she even gives him the idea for how to weaken Dugrid. Also, classic tail throw! Love it! If the Omega Slugger is a bad idea because Dugrid is made up of toxins, Omega has got to finish this with his Ultra Beam. But did the Color Timer...basically tell him to do it or reminds him he could? Was it his body remembering? First fly off of the season! We even see his chest logo for a bit when he really flies off! Well, Ayumu finally got acknowledgement for her efforts and got two new "younger" brothers she never asked for...but they do make life more entertaining! MindRayn ED. What more can you say other than it's awesome? And also sounds like it's partially the world as seen through Omega's eyes. Next week: Weather condition Kaiju problems and the first Meteor Kaiju! |
Looks like episode 2 has proven to me that the banter between the fish out of water with memory loss that is Sorato/Omega and Kosei will be why I enjoy this show. :lolol
|
I really do appreciate how this show gets to reevaluate a lot of basic Ultraman tropes since this isn't a setting where anyone knows anything about aliens or monsters. A beam attack hasn't been that hype in a long time simply because no one in the story even knew Omega could do that. We also don't have a defense team because obviously nobody was prepared for this, as seen with Ayu getting pulled from her normal field to examine kaiju. Kosei seems unsure what to do with Omega basically forcibly moving in with him, but realizes during the episode that he can't just hand a confused alien to the authorities and starts actively trying to get Sorato to keep up a secret identity. It's an uphill struggle to say the least! The chemistry between the characters is just super charming in this one, I guess the director brought some of that good R/B energy to the show!
|
Yeah I'm gonna have lots of fun with Omega. I adore the main trio of characters, their quirks and the resulting chemistry they have with each other, and on top of that the effects are excellent and the action really cool to watch.
I enjoy how the world setting makes everything feel fresh, even something as classic a beam finisher feels all new and exciting. |
I just got my copy of Ultraman Z on Blu-Ray from Amazon today, along with Unearthed Classics release version of the first live-action Guyver movie and the Ultraman Orb Origin Saga miniseries on DVD and Blu-Ray respectively, and I am seriously forward looking to revisiting the series in both languages especially the English dub.
|
Sorato's kind of like a Digimon. He needs lots of food for energy.
Yep. I'm loving this duo and the show as a whole so far. Enjoying the opening and its visuals with the classic silhouettes and can't wait to see the Meteor Kaiju forms in action, plus the ending was great as well. And boy did they hype up that beam attack (again giving me Blazar flashbacks), really sold it to me here. It's nice to see them reinvent themselves every now and again, plus having a new fight backdrop, even if it's not much, a change of scenery spices up things a long way. Next Episode: When Penguins Fly! |

Great & Powered are now available for release by Mill Creek!
Decker and Arc won't be far away either. 4K releases of Ultraman and Ultraseven are also coming. Documentary about Ultraman's origins as well. Oh, and an English Dub of Omega. https://kaijuunited.com/2025/07/12/e...-update-panel/ |
Saw the Arc movie recently, as it started airing in my country. Overall quite liked it, it stands out from other Ultra movies due to its episodic nature, though there is enough of a connecting tissue between all the stories. In a way, it's like getting an extra 3 episodes of Arc
|
Well, it's good that Sorato is actually earning his room and board with Kosei by actually working. No way can Kosei keep feeding him without getting SOMETHING in return.
Wow, these radio announcers are surprisingly adept at foreshadowing Kaiju attacks! It might do wonders for their ratings (had anyone except three people actually seen the Kaiju). Hey now Ayu, I know Sorato is an amnesiac but he at least let you know Omega is not a Kaiju and his name! Though it's kind of surreal that it's been three episodes and no one's coined the phrase "Ultraman" yet but I guess that's just a sign of how weird these giant figures are on this Earth. Kaiju are "awakening?" So they've always been on this planet, or were in some kind of hibernation, before finally wakening up? Did something or someone do this deliberately? Was Omega's crashing to Earth somewhat related? How much longer can they keep Ayu in the dark? She literally saw him pop out the Omega Slugger! I mean, Kosei can do his level best but it feels like the only thing keeping Ayu from figuring things out is frankly I don't think she takes these two that seriously. I love how Ayu did a bow before passing the tori gates. I wonder...did the Meteor Kaiju come with Omega? Sorato seemed to sense it, but he was 50/50 on whether he actually recognized Rekiness. And it seemed like Pegunos was after the Meteor Kaiju too. Are we going to get a big scene of Kosei having to run? But I guess there's nothing more human than trying to balance/find what you want to do and what you HAVE to do...and Sorato learning about humans, and himself, in the process. Forget Peguila, here's Pegunos, the Gravityless Kaiju! With his flapping wings and cold air holes that lets him fly and control air! Watch out for his spinning attack! So the Meteor Kaiju imprint onto Kosei and follow his commands. I wasn't sure how sentient they were until we got CG figurine Rekiness. Imagine that they're supposed to be Omega's and now they're his new pals'. Rekiness looks like if Space Godzilla was a good guy. I genuinely thought we were going to see Rekiness' weapon armor form, but I'm actually glad they're pacing it out and letting the Meteor Kaiju show off as themselves. Plus, you can't beat a telekinesis hold that lead into an Ultra Beam Finisher. If Kosei and Sorato are really going to be friends with Ayu...they probably should tell her the truth. |
I'm really curious about what exactly the Meteo Kaiju are now. Rekiness was being targeted by a kaiju while dormant, and Sorato only seemed to kinda register what they were. Yet when he was transformed into Omega he had an almost wistful reaction to seeing Rekiness. And they only seemed to respond to Kosei too. I wonder if they are supposed to be some kind of fragments of Omega's powers and memories that were forcibly turned into monsters or something. Thus, they reacted to Kosei since he wanted to help Omega, who they are a part of. I do think this was a bit weaker than the prior two episodes overall, but it was still solid. I hope Ayu finds out Sorato's identity sooner rather than later. I think it would make for a better long-term story and I mean, honestly, how long can Kosei possibly keep up this farce in front of a recurring character? Next episode looks like it will have some kind of falling out with Sorato and Kosei. Seems like that will be a pretty natural way for the characters to learn about the mechanics of how the Meteo Kaiju work, since clearly no one understands them currently.

I finished all of Ultraman Arc(sans its movie). And overall, it was decent.
The short version of my opinion is that I felt like the show had alot of good ideas, but the execution of those ideas left alot to be desired. I think the main issue I took with the show was how it never really felt to me that SKIP grew as a group. As individuals, sure, but scenes like Shu talking about how important Yuma is to him would've hit alot harder to me if there had been more scenes of the two bonding throughout the show. Not to say that there were none period, but "just barely enough to scrape by" is maybe the phrase I'd use to describe it. Great job from Shu's' dub VA though. Speaking of phrasing, Arc likes to use the term "Imagination" alot, and while I get it, I don't think it really lives up to the idea all that well. Personally I think the word "Ingenuity" fits alot better. Where the execution of the concept really flounders is in the finale, where rather than doing anything unique, creative, or cool to beat Sweed, all it amounts to is firing a beam and then doing the wiggle thing again from episode 3. I've seen other superhero media. The orbiting the globe aspect isn't anything new to me. But as I've said before, where the show really shined was in its direction and cinematography. Not just the actions sequences, of which most are really unique and well done, but even in terms of episode composition and atmosphere; An easy example being basically the entirety of episode 22 with its dreary mood and callbacks to famous works of art. In the end, Blazar was alot more my cup of tea, even despite the issues I had with it. And again, I don't think Arc is out and out bad; I think it's overall just okay. It just wasn't the type of show that super clicked with me. PS: Count me in on the people who were disappointed in the Blazar crossover. Like, they couldn't at the very least get Gento's' actor back? Jeez... |
^Just out of curiosity, what are your thoughts regarding the Internet Kanegon episode?

That being said, it wasn't really for me. |
Time for training with Rekiness! Sorato and Rekiness may both still have only a vague sense of their shared familiarity with each other, but at least Rekiness still takes orders from Kosei well! Even if it seems like the longer Rekiness is out/does, the more physically taxing it is on Kosei.
Sorato yelling "REKINESS!!!" with the most force and energy he's had all series. Actually makes me wish he was yelling "OMEGA!" whenever he transformed. I didn't expect to see post-retirement Captain Hibiki as Kosei's landlord. No wonder Sorato was on his best behavior as Kosei's "cousin."' Kaiju has finally joined this worlds' established nomenclature! Ayu is the one who introduced it, but Sorato deserves credit too! So I guess to Ayu, the boys are basically the best thing she has to Kaiju consultants. Sorato wanted to do Kosei a solid and let him go fishing with the Boss, but Kosei mistook it to mean Sorato didn't think he needed him and threw out the most forced hype over fishing I'd ever seen. Granted, I'm proud Sorato managed to take the train and encounter Ayu all on his own. Don't you just hate it when a dinosaur mutates into a Kaiju? And because it's a dinosaur native to Earth, that means it's not familiar to Sorato, compared to the other Kaiju we've encountered so far. Also, props for giving the Therinosaurus feathers like actually accurate dinosaurs. "I'll go face him" - How is Ayu meant to take that? Though I do love how he demonstrates some super strength in human form and challenges the Therinosaurus to a territory dispute. I wouldn't compare Kosei to a "pawn," but I guess a pawn is pretty versatile and useful in shogi. Watch out for that beak! And those claws! And the camouflage, which feels like straight up cheating. Though I do like how Omega is kind of protective of Rekiness. And good plan with the telekinesis! When the Omega Slugger isn't sharp enough to cut through, they'll need the Rekiness Armor and it's electric blade! It can even still use Rekiness' telekinesis! And it seems like Rekiness knew it could transform and boost Omega? All's well that ends well, Kaiju slain, Kosei and Sorato's relationship has deepened, and the Boss will cover for Kosei so he can go hunt Kaiju. |
Sorato is so much better at keeping up his secret identity this week that it actually kind of shocked me (even if he still acts bizarre to say the least). It felt like only a few days had passed at most since the previous episode, so I'm imagining Kosei dragging him off and giving him "how to act human" cram school. Once again Rekiness proves quite mysterious, as Sorato still finds it familiar in some way, but unidentifiable. He can't use it either! Rekiness also seems to have been the one who communicated it could form armor for Omega to Kosei. The kaiju this week was also cool! I think the original kaiju in Omega have a charm to them a lot like real animals, and this feathery, territorial dinosaur is another good example! The little spat between Kosei and Sorato actually caught my attention less than some of the other details this episode, but it was nice how Kosei still ran off to help Sorato in spite of being annoyed with him.
I also watched Ultraman Rising and the 2019 ULTRAMAN anime that is based on a manga. They were both okay I guess. Rising's plot felt too condensed and the whole Americanized vibe of how they told and Ultraman stort was offputting to me to be honest. The anime series... was also too condensed! And to be blunt, the whole thing felt so much like a mediocre Kamen Rider fanfiction that calling it ULTRAMAN felt misleading. Maybe the manga fares better since it presumably has time to actually explain things! |

Found out that Ultraman Trigger is now available to watch on Tubi just the other day. Make of it what you will.

I'm having real trouble with Kosei so far. Something about him just reminds me too much of Shunpei from KR Wizard and that's not a good thing.
|
It's only episode 5 and Kosei is cracking under the pressure of having to keep any info away from Ayu about Omega...and she's got a LOT of questions. Though probably for the best that Sorato turns himself into a delivery man and makes himself scarce!
Enter Miko! A surly, withdrawn, girl who lost her mother, her father is away for work, and she's stuck in the boonies with her kindly and doting aunt Sasako. She's not a bad girl, but she just doesn't have much going for her. Other than the "friend" she's made. Enter Mikoto! Or Ohebinushi no Mikoto! A Serpent God who in legends fell in love with a human woman...and now is best pals with Miko, who feeds it metal. And Sorato even joins in because he's just that much of a pal! Though Mikoto is getting more out of this friendship than Miko realizes... I don't think white streaks look bad on Miko, but it's a clear sign that something is up with her body and she's slowly deteriorating. And the source of it is, obvuiously, Mikoto. But she genuinely doesn't care if Mikoto, after it grows to its true size as Ohebinushi, the Serpent God, drains her dry so long as she doesn't have to live like this any more. Sasako may not know how to raise a child, but she knows that Miko is her family and she'll risk getting herself drained by Mikoto if it means saving Miko. I love how Kosei never even confirmed with Sorato that he would drive up to help bring him back, he just showed up because he's such a great friend. And because Omega might need Rekiness, but you know... It seems like Mikoto wasn't just a beast driven by its need to feed and drain energy from others...it seemed protective and caring towards Miko, and considerate towards her, trying to protect her and keep her safe. Even if that meant rampaging and committing suicide by Ultraman Omega and fading away into cherry blossoms. Kosei is acting like it's just another average Kaiju kill and Ayu is trying in vain to research what happened, but only Sorato might know the truth about what Mikoto was really doing. But, on the plus side, Miko and Sasako are closer than ever, flexing their mutual white highlights and Miko seems to have a new lease on living with her aunt. That's probably what Mikoto would've wanted for her. |
Really liked that episode of Omega. It was nice seeing Sorato go out on his own and the plot was an intriguing one. Mikoto is a lot like the kind of stories you hear sometimes, about someone who found a wild animal when it was cute and small, but as it grew up became accidentally destructive. It ends sadly, as many of these stories do, but Miko conmects with her aunt afterwards after seeing how much she cares. Sad, sweet, and hopeful. It is always fun to see them shoot out in the countryside too, and I was just very happy they did a proper serpentine kaiju! Kosei going after Sorato after he didn't call back was also one of those little narrative touches they didn't have to include, but I'm glad they did because it is on point for him as a character. (I feel like I am always closing these comments out by talking about Kosei. I like him, okay? :lol)
|
^I honestly don't blame you. I seriously liked Kosei as one of the show's lead characters and his dynamic with Sorato is great as always. Anyway, I think this might actually be Omega's best episode so far.
|
Gedrago! The Reckless Kaiju! Actually looks surprisingly cute aaaaaannd it's dead. That's kind of anticlimactic!
Kaiju saliva! As I live and breathe! Fumiya (Uh...thanks for using his first name in the subs I guess, Tsuburaya?) probably has a point that they got roped into studying and investigating stuff that they didn't go into science to actually research but does he have to be such a whiny baby about it? I love how Kosei will investigate Kaiju...after work. Provided said Kaiju isn't actively involved, then he has to run after (and almost lose) Sorato. Sorato and Kosei coming in like they're slasher villains. Kosei has an amazing intense yelling face. I'm really curious how Ayu is rationalizing all this insight Sorato inexplicably has for Kaiju. Sorato only just learned about the word "Challenge" and he's already using it to validate Ayu's current career path! "I can only sleep on a bed!" - proceeds to go out like a light. Poor Ayu. I know most people will focus on Sorato using Kosei's body for a pillow, but Sorato reaching out his hand into the sky makes me wonder if he longs to return home to space on some level. It's kind of funny how both Sorato and Kosei need to cover for why they run off for Kaiju battling. What a battle of comedic mishaps. Omega falls into a hole, Gedrago dodges his attack IN a hole, and pops up RIGHT next to Omega. Honestly questioned at first if we even needed Rekiness for this fight because the two of them tag-teaming Gedrago felt kind of like bullying? Well, other than Rekiness accidentally hitting Omega with his tail and Gedrago having a very shocking handshake. Gedrago's not a malicious or rampaging Kaiju, he just wants to find a mate! And luckily Ayu's knowledge as a biologist means she can recognize his similar mating behavior to a (not at all recolored suit) long mouthed mole! So Omega and Rekiness team-up to return the two Gedrago's home (though kind of a bummer if the female is actually dead)! Glad Ayu has found a new resolve to continue to research Kaiju, I mean at the end of the day most of them are just animals and sentient creatures, right? Can we keep Fumiya out of the investigation team? Next week: a new Meteor Kaiju and the return of GOMORA!!!! |
I think that was one of the weaker episodes of Omega so far, the comedic aspects were a bit forced and felt at odds with the more scientific aspects of the plot to me. I kind of sympathize with Ayu's coworker despairing over being forced into a new job, but he's so whiny about it it ends uo being more annoying than amusing. But I do like the idea that kaiju are simply animals and the whole bit at the end where Ayu talks about her sense of mission and curiosity towards these unknown creatures.
|
GOMORA THE ANCIENT KAIJU IS BACK! And he's wasting no time showing off why he was the first Kaiju to really give Ultraman a run for his money! He manhandles Omega, shrugs off Rekiness' TK, and blasts him with his Super Oscillation Wave! At least Sorato and Kosei can now commiserate in exhaustion over a failed battle.
Even Ultras can get colds! Or at least the equivalent of it since it seems like it's more the result of Sorato just feeling exhausted from fighting so much. So he overheated, basically? It's only been 7 episodes and people are already done with Kaiju and using AI deepfakes to deliver Ultraman Omega conspiracy theories. Wolfie is the worst kind of person. One who is only in it for the attention, no matter the facts or who he has to bring down to get it, and he takes no responsibility for his actions or behavior. Ayu really leaning into the Big Sis role by taking care of a sick Sorato, though sometimes I really wonder what she thinks of these two weirdos she hangs out with so much. But at least Sorato supports her career! Honestly, I have to feel for Gomora here. Bro was just hibernating and then Trigaron comes in, wakes him up, then he just has a hankering for hams. Can you really blame him? It's not his fault humans suddenly have civilization and cities in his way. Kosei just wants the next Meteor Kaiju, not to get chased by a youtube personality, high school girls, and a salaryman! Don't these people have anything better to do!? It's easy to sway the populace and public opinion when they don't know any better, but Kosei's faith in Sorato unlocks the next companion in their arsenal! Trigaron! A tiger Meteor Kaiju who is SUPER fast! Like he moves at light speed! I was wondering if Trigaron would be all CG, but there IS an actual suit! And the super speed is probably merciful on the suit actor so they don't have to film that much with him on all fours. I love how they acknowledge that Gomora's greatest weakness is removing his tail. Poor guy was holding it in frustration before he tossed it aside. The worst thing you can do to someone like Wolfie is stop paying attention to him and cancel him. I'm glad this really reinforced Sorato and Kosei's friendship as a Kaiju Fighting Duo. Next week: Trigaron Armor and Mons-Aghar returns! |
