As GrandComplete put it, at this point Toei has stopped even the pretence of everything being in a shared universe. Because there’s no way this could fit in wih anything (unless there’s a side novel about how Takumi barely knows these young people, and he and Rena end up going off to join Smart Brain coming that I’m unaware of. But even then, there’d be some stretching necessary).

Also, apparently animals can be turned into Orphnochs. Ok.
