I absolutely detested the Dark Knight Returns & Strikes Again. Frank Millers bullshit grim dark gritty Batman is the only thing I ever here people talk about in my industry. I'm a comic shop manager, have been for about 8 years. Sadly I feel like I'm the only person who can't stand Miller half the time as I get weird looks and sneers when I say that stupid title isn't on my "ZOMG Top 10 Batman books evar!" list. His ridiculous Batman and his disdain & animosity towards Superman as a symbol kill me. Which sadly those elements look to have been carried over to this new film. |
I really like the Dark Knight Returns, but outside of that one story Miller's Batman doesn't work at all unless it's being viewed as some over the top parody.
Which is how I found Allstar Batman and Robin to be amazing :lol |

the best All Star comic will always be Superman.
if you want to see why people can appreciate Superman, go read that comic. |
I freely admit to owning All-Star Batman & Robin in Absolute Slipcover Hardcover edition :lol I absolutely loved that over the top ridiculousness of that book. Even though I Know Miller never meant it as parody that's certainly the way it reads making it very very enjoyable. Authorial intent be damned!
I am willing to admit also that I find Year One to be immensely enjoyable for what it is. When you start adding layers of meaningless brutality & darkness on top of things I get miffed. But Year One struck a very good balance between some of Miller's more dark tendencies but with a silver lining of hope and heroism that I can still appreciate. |

I highly enjoy it, and it's nice to see Gotham as more of a darker place than normal. my only problem with it really is Celina's design. I feel it's too much in the opposite direction of the "pretty cat lover" and just goes a bit too far on the butch side. |
I like the animated movie adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns, but I never understood what the big deal about it was. I read it in 2005 and found it to be lackluster, especially when it is the comic I had heard so many people talk about for years.
And you guys are right, I have not seen the movie yet, so I can not know for sure. However, based on that trailer, Zack knows very little about Batman. In fact, I think he mixed up Batman and Hitler. I really really hope am I wrong. However, at this point, unless it has an 80% of better on RT, I will not be seeing it. |
uuuuh.... I really think saying someone mistook another character for Hitler is a bit of an extreme...
