I don't mind them having episodes set in the desert since it make sense. They are giant robots and they want to be in an area that no one can really spot them.

another factor in the lackluster storytelling in Transformers Prime comes from the series undergoing rewrites at several point (due to requirements of selling more toys & writers having burned through all their original ideas before the end of the second season).
Season 3 was at one point going to focus on an entirely new faction of space pirates known as "Star Seekers" (led by a new warrior Thundertron) but eventually this angle was scrapped & thus we received Beast Hunters for the season. Things were far enough in the design process that Thundertron still received a toy. |

Actually the Star Seekers were the focal point for BotCon 2014; both the toys and the comics/fiction that came with them featured the faction.

That aside I really loved Ernie Hudson as Fowler as much as I loved Ironside as Magnus. Oh, right I forgot. If you are a fan of a horror film called Reanimator Jeffrey Combs who was a part of that movie voiced Ratchet and one of the episodes was a nod to that movie if I recall. |
for those wanting something a bit different I will also strongly recommend Prime's follow-up series, Robots In Disguise.
The animation is very different (lot more vibrant, extra colors & some VERY unique character designs) and the cast remains top-notch. While the writing definitely skews a bit younger than Prime's story, there's some very creative takes on nearly all the characters. |
