Reinstalled Fallout 2 for the first time in a few years. I'll probably only play it for about a week though. Can't seem to stick with games lately. Between my PC and Switch I have 45 games installed; this year I've started or continued 12 of them, but only finished 2. (Three if you include Deltarune Chapter 2). I even put a lot of time in some of them. Got to the final mission in Dishonored's base campaign when I started replaying it to refresh myself on it before starting the sequel. Put 45 hours into Fallout 76 before realizing I'd fucked up my character build. Got about 40 hours into my first FNV run since 2016. Got 10 hours into Wolfenstein The New Order, which I figure must be near the end of the game considering how short FPS campaigns tend to be. Only game I've been able to put down for more than a week and come back to has been Skyrim on the Switch, playing vanilla for the first time since February 2012. Haven't even played modded since 2016, so I'm having a lot of fun exploring the land again. A lot of it I've already done quite a few times, but there's also been some fun stuff I'd forgotten.

I hope it doesn't clash with the rest of the decor too much. Bearskin is hard to pull off these days.

Not sure if people new to this thread are allowed, but I'm curious about the RPG you're talking about. Are you thinking something entirely through writing, or something involving like Discord or Skype calls?

I shall be welcoming to all who are interested, regardless of being new. :) Also, I can do text if that's what my players are comfortable with, though discord will ultimately be preferred.

Not in a good frame of mind. If one checks the Star Wars thread, you'll find a link I shared to an older book which heaps one criticism after another towards the franchise.

I've never known why, but I can't rationalize criticism against something I hold close. Most people let criticism roll off cause they can offer an alternative; a counterpoint. I hyper-focus much too hard on such things that it can promote inactivity and increased hesitation.

Even worse, I start wondering if the criticisms are specifically about a particular subject or if those same criticisms could be recycled and used against other brands as well.

I envy sharp minds and quick wits cause they're capacity for rational thought isn't suspended automatically when they hear a dissenting opinion. They aren't taken over by clickbait and the like.

If there is a clinical condition which describes my state of "thinking", I'm not aware of it.

Already this is off to a better start than the Rider War from a few years back.

Honestly, this is a state of mind I find myself in fairly often myself. I'm not sure if there is much I can do to help but I just want you to know you aren't alone.

Here's the reality though, there is legit a breed of person out there who just hates the newest thing in their favorite franchise and will jump through hoops to justify it. Their arguments are ultimately meaningless and interchangeable, they will hate the thing regardless. Let's look at Star Wars for example, specifically the sequel trilogy. In those films folks argue that Snoke was killed off too early, yet if he was kept around to the last film we'd have those same people moaning that Snoke being around made the plot too much like the Return of the Jedi. There is no winning with those people, full stop, as THEY are the irrational one. There is nothing wrong with you for being unable to engage with the people who exist solely to tear down the things you enjoy. They are the ones with the problem.

I regards to your choice of color, again totally cool with whatever you end up going with, but do keep in mind we have a navy ranger in the roster already if that will effect your choice at all. I know we've had teams with two shades of blue before (looking at your Ninja Storm/Hurricanger) but its just something to consider. :)

If it was just a Sequel Trilogy argument, then it would be forgettable.

The book was published in 2006 and focuses on the OG and Prequel Trilogies. The various essays which critique the franchise from various angles all seem to follow a uniform path: Star Wars is flawed!

In their minds, the Force reflects the myth that violence saves and the Force being tied to Midi-Chlorians implies a sense of eugenics.

They also touch on additional subjects like the "hokey religion" and the use of violent lightsabers and the notion of toy collecting by fans.

The editors also have a history of turning their criticisms towards superheroes in general, if the book jacket is to be believed. Bare in mind that 2006 predates the MCU.

Such people, be it literary critics or psychologists or theologians, all have the same problem: they're indifferent to the harm they ultimately cause when someone reads their crap!

I think the best advice I can give is this: don't let other peoples' views and opinions sway you from what it is you enjoy.

Now I myself am not a fan of the current state of Star Wars, except for Visions, which was the most interesting thing I've experienced from the franchise as of late (though I've yet to see The Mandalorian), mainly because nothing has really caught my attention. Maybe it's because I grew up in what was possibly the Golden Age of Star Wars, but I think it's because of the state of everything.

Fandoms these days (especially the big ones) are chalk-full of toxic and vocal kinds of people, that it just isn't fun to stick around. people will slander things if it means they get attention or start conflict, which is always better to ignore, moreso that this came out in 2006, before the age of social media and whatnot. If it's something you enjoy, don't let others talk you out of it, they don't dictate your life.

Well shucks, I don't have a discord, nor do I know whether I'll have the best conditions to participate, since I live in a busy house.

Also, I've never played a tabletop RPG before, so I'm not sure if I need dice, figurines, or what have you, so I'm a bit on the fence.

We played out our own Ryuki scenario. It was fun, I was Verde. Lost my contact monster, got a new one, ended up becoming Alternative. XD Came down to me, Tali (Knight), and (I think) Matrix (Ouja) in the end.

Rather than doing something sensible, we hosted it in a group here on TN. Still archived, I think you can still access it from my profile if you want to see what the hell happened.

It could've gone better- and been planned better- but yeah it was a fun time.

We had talked about doing a Gaim one as well after we finished with the Ryuki one, but that one fell apart before it even got off the ground.

I need to clear out stuff from my attic/garage (my parents own the house I just live here), and I have doubts any of this will move.

While I can't exactly speak for everyone, I personally don't mind a small bit of background chatter. Though I do believe Discord has a feature that filters out background noise. Also, don't worry yourself over not having experience, dice or figures. All this will be carried out using Roll20 which has everything pre install from dice rollers to character sheets and maps. So long as you have an internet connection I'll guide you through the rest. This will be my first time DMing too, so its new territory for myself as well. All are welcome. :)

Voice would be preferred, more than likely over Discord.

Bought an NES Mini with 500 actual games on it. Front cover had game screens for SMB3 and Castlevainia . I'll be playing. NES games in a few weeks. Hopefully it has SMB2 J on it.

Also playing Final Fantasy IX on PS1 Classic.

I would legit be down to have 3 shades of blue though, in fact I'm warming up to the idea so whatever you want is cool with me. :D
