Cencoroll: Montruous aliens have started to appear on Japan... and to be fair... nobody seems to care, the military treats it as any other operation and the civilians couldn't be more unfazed, heck the monsters themselves don't seem to do anything either.
However a highschool girl called Yuki doesn's share this apathy and is quite curious about the unknown creatures, a curiosity that will be quenched by her encounter with Tetsu and his companion Cenco, a shapeshifting alien that really likes to eat. Cencoroll is a short anime film (around 25min) written, designed, directed, and animated by Atsuya Uki, and wow, does this guy have a very clear style. Talking about such a short work is hard without going full into spoiler territory, but Cencoroll has it's unique charm, most of the humor is derived from the stoic, calm and somewhat apathic behavior everybody has, nobody gets fazed by anything and when you combine that with the bizarre story, it gets you some good chuckles. The art style is pretty cool, the main cast has very similar designs, short black hair, no crazy eye colors and regular school uniforms, this contrasts heavily with the weird creatures, Cenco and his kind are grotesque abominations, but in a very "cute ugly" kind of way, the background have enough detail and do their work. The characters as I said are pretty calm and level headed, and due to the short run time are exclusively defined by their interactions, Tetsu's aloof attitude is countered with his somewhat troubled relationship with Cenco and his annoyance at Yuki, and Yuki herself is incredibly charming, her mannerisms doing most of the work, Cenco is a bizarre creature, but you can't help but see a twisted sense of loyalty from him. The story is interesting, and raises really cool ideas and concepts, but ultimately the "what could have been" is fae more interesting, this is excellent material for a longer show or movie. As a whole, Cencoroll is a very unique product, but one that is worth the time, both from a production to a writing standpoint it has an unique identity that will leave a print in your memory. |
I finished the Freeza saga of Kai. My god this thing took forever even in its shortened form. UGH!!! I'm also at the point of Kai now where Toei changed the music back to the original series' music. Only problem is, it feels like they just put the tracks on random when they added them to the episodes instead of making sure they fully fit.
DBZ THe World's Strongest: This movie is one of the better DBZ movies as it is a lot of fun, has a decent plot to it, and outside of the characters being able to breath out in space, it feels like it could have belonged in the series. Uiro is a decent villain and the movie has a great deal of action to it. Overall, I give it a 7/10. |

Been trying to enjoy Zankyou no Terror, but you know what's made the last two episodes unbearable (especially today's)?
The English. It's just so freaking bad... No effort was put into it and zero emotion is conveyed in any lines. And it's being used a good bit too. It just throws you out of the narrative so much... In principle it wouldn't be bad, and actually makes sense within the story for people to be speaking English instead of Japanese, but with how badly done it is, it is just frustrating. That aside, it is maintaining it's pretty good pace as a top contender this season. |
After finishing Oreimo, Oreimo 2, and Maoyuu Maoh Yuusha, I'm watching Little Busters.

Got done with Ao No Exorcist a few days ago, the ending didn't grab me that much. Also I saw a short description about the latest Manga chapter, yep, Manga of Ao No Exorcist is better.

And if you wanna avoid incest vibes, don't take a look at KissxSis then. :lol The newest OVA just came out and that reminded me I don't have it listed on MyAnimeList... and I added it, but now that I think about the content, maaaybe I don't want that being advertised there heh. |

DBZ Tree of Might - This movie is just so damn boring. Nothing really happens and none of the villains are even likable as they hardly do anything. It also makes no sense why Tullece looks exactly like Goku. Sure, he makes the comment that there are only a few warrior types among the Saiyans, but that still doesn't answer why he looks and sounds exactly like Goku. The whole concept of the Shinsei Tree could have been cool had it actually served some type of purpose rather than just being there to get a fight going. Overall, this movie kind of blows and gets a 4/10. |

Yeah, but 11 episodes is still a lot even in Kai form. They could have easily cut that fight down to about 7 episodes.
Anyway, DBZ Lord Slugg - This movie sucks. It has no plot. It is just action scene after action scene after action scene. Even Tree of Might had somewhat of a reasoning behind it. Here, Slugg just wants Earth because the writers want him to want Earth. The thing never has any time for breathing room as it is just one giant fight sequence. I give it a 2/10 stars. |
Lord Slugg is even better in DBZ Abridged form. :p

So, I decided to subject myself to more Gundam 00 (I'm up to ep. 20 now), and the biggest problem I've had so far with this show has come up: why the hell didn't the series start with the introduction of the Thrones? The conflict between Celestial Being and Trinity is far more interesting than the first 15 episodes of the story. There should've just been three or four episodes to establish the Gundam Meisters, then the Trinity should've immediately appeared. These last five epsiodes have been better than everything before them (for the first time, I actually wanted to watch one episode after another finished) and this show's gone from less than ok to pretty great. Tieria's been less of a dick, there was the bombshell that was Louise's ENTIRE family getting killed, there's less exposition, and the overall pacing of the show is far better.

Gundam: War in the Pocket episode 3
I switched over to the English dub. It's not half bad. Al doesn't annoy me anymore. But I swear that Spanish guy sounds like Tommy Wiseau. Hey! The Federation is cheating! They have technology from Zeta and ZZ in 0079. The first look at Gundam Alex and....eh? Episode 4 Its all Al's fault. I see you stole the ZZ's armor, Alex. CAST OFF! CHANGE GUNDAM! Finally, some fight scenes worth a damn. Alex is badass. But considering it'll be destroyed by the end of the show, I need another amazing fight scene from it to redeem the series for me. Episode 5 What? Actual stakes in War in the Pocket? What madness is this? Episode 6 Actually, this episode was pretty good. Bernie's death message was really heartfelt and Al at the end crying really showed how much he changed. But my question was, did Bernie destroy the Alex? He cut off its head and arm, but I don't know if that counts as full on destruction considering Amuro had the Rx-78 in worse shape in the final fight against Char in MSG and it still worked. Overall, 0080 is...okay. I don't know why this was a six episode OVA, they could have easily cut out a lot of the repetitive emphasis on Al having bad grades or his friends peer pressuring him. If this was a 90 minute movie, it'd better fit. The two stand out characters of this show are Bernie and Christina Mackenzie but even they, compared to the amount of focus Al got, don't do a whole lot. The final episode is good but the first few could have easily been combined into one. The most interesting thing about 0080 is the Alex itself. Sure, its just a Gundam for the sake of having a Gundam there in a Gundam series, but it being made for Newtypes and it was supposed to go to Amuro is an interesting premise in itself. This Gundam could have changed the entire Zeon conflict for decades to come and forever change Newtype history. If Amuro had this Gundam, he might have killed Char, which would affect stuff like Zeta Gundam, ZZ and hell, the second Neo-Zeon war wouldn't even happen and Full Frontal might not have even existed in Unicorn oe even in the same way, or Unicorn would have never happened at all . I think an alternate history movie or OVA series with that premise would have been much more interesting then this. Honestly, you might as well should just go online, order an HG Gundam Alex kit and build it, paint it and display it on your self, because you're going to get a better experience doing that. Also, not to be a nitpicker, but wasn't 0079 supposed to essentially be the late 70's aesthetic/fashion set in space? This looks more like the 80s, which is inaccurate to everything in MSG. If, you're gonna go back to that era, be correct about it. |
Rewatching Fullmetal Alchemist: Conqueror of Shambala. God I love this movie, it pretty much sums up exactly why I prefer the original FMA anime over Brotherhood. Don't get me wrong, I like both version perfectly fine it's only that my personal preference leans more towards the 03 adaptation as it's (in my mind at least) the better written, edited, preformed and overall executed version of the two... Not to mention with the 03 version's movie acting as a further conclusion I feel that the 03 version goes out with a bang and ends on a very strong note making Conqueror of Shambala one of my favorite anime films of all time.

I'm not a fan of Shambala. I don't hate it, but the story just doesn't make sense. Plus, they ditch Winry. Oh, and nothing actually feels complete.
Oh, and I'm kind of upset with the fourth episode to Sailor Moon Crystal. Not only did they not kill Jadeite last week, but now they are making more changes. They did not have Usagi get drunk and pass out (the best part of that chapter). And somehow Luna already knows Mamoru is Tuxedo Mask. |
Watched Fairy tail.
The episode Erza vs Erza, this episode is false advertisement? :lol |

Having no attachment to the manga whatsoever, I think episode 4 of Crystal was the best one so far. It was nice to finally have one that wasn't an introductory episode. And the overall quality (both the animation and the subs) have significantly improved since it started, which is great.
I'm glad Luna knows Mamoru is Tuxedo Mask, it makes the show more enjoyable if there's at least one character that isn't ignorant to the painfully obvious. |
Got caught up on Aldnoah Zero and Psycho-Pass.
Both shows are still really really great. Urobuchis writing is really strong on those but Psycho-Pass really takes the cake as probably his best show so far. Maybe on par with Madoka but I still have to rewatch that one. |

Thats indeed pretty intresting. I havent kept up with news so it went right passed me. But I gotta say I would have never guessed that it was someone else and not Gen writing those episodes.

Makes sense. Its all kept rather simplistic and in Urobutchis usual style so I guess its easy for a different writer to take over and it not really being as noticeable.

So I watched Volume 5 of Dragonball Kai today and I have come to some saddening realization, I don't think I like Kai. Sure, it is great to have the fight scenes not drag out for 400 episodes, but at the same time, the show seems to have lost all of its character development. Now it seems like the show is nothing but action sequence after action sequence with little to no development, making it kind of boring. As I said, I hate it when a fight goes on for 10+ episodes, but inbetween those fights you would get backstory items like what Vegeta, Nappa, and Raditz were feeling while they were under Freeza's command, Gohan growing up after Piccolo left him during the year before Vegeta and Nappa would arrive, etc. Plus, the regular version did a good job of building up Freeza's return with his father whereas here, all of the suspense was gone. Not to mention the lack of using the original music when Trunks slices Freeza up really ruins that great moment from the original. Actually, this is the first time I am watching the Artificial Human and Cell stuff in Kai form, so it is interesting to watch without the filler, but like I said, I kind of miss some of the filler.
|
Re-watching Eureka Seven again... God, I love this show. I know I praise Madoka and FMA up the ass but Eureka Seven is (in my opinion) better than both of them put together. It's simply perfection through and through.

Watching Hyouka right now.
|
Black Lagoon. I started watching for the violence, I stay for Revy.
|
Started watching the Madoka movies and got done with the first one. The animation is pretty and the story is still incredibly good...duh.
Also Suzu and I started our great project of watching all seasons of Digimon. We got done with the first seven episodes of Digimon Adventure and its not off to a good start. That show really hasnt aged all that well and is in all honesty pretty terrible :lol |
I finished the Cell saga to Dragonball Kai today. Overall, it was as good as can be, but my god the music pissed me off. I love the music to DBZ, but for this entire arc it feels like they put the same 6 track on random whether they fit a scene or not. I think there were only three instances in the whole 46 episode lot where I was blown away because they used a song or BGM I was not familiar with. It also sucks because the Freeza saga had some great songs that played after his transformations. Here, there was only one song and it was while Super Bulky Trunks was battling Perfect Cell. Very annoying. I'm not really sure what to think of Kai as a whole. Well, the original Kai, not the Buu stuff (that I heard is full of bs green tint, cropped, and terrible music). I loved that the battles didn't drag on for 20 episodes, but at the same time, I felt a lot of the character development was lost in the process even though it was filler. It would have just been better if they had done an entirely new adaptation of the manga that was accurate because part of that has to do with the editing, and the lack of. There were fights that still drag on for longer than necessary when those should have been cut down as well. I don't care if a fight was like 15 manga chapters, it should not take more than 2 episodes for a fight that long, and even then that is pushing it. Overall, I'm disappointed in the quality of Kai. I love what Toei was going for, and I love having an option on how I want to watch the show, but in the long run, I think I prefer the original version of Z instead.
Another DBZ movie lot: Cooler's Revenge - This movie has a good idea with making up a brother to relieve the Goku Freeza battle in a movie. Unfortunately, Goku hardly even does anything and even though the movie has only a little bit of action it, the plot is paper thin. Nonetheless, it is a pretty decent movie and one of the better Z movies, so I give it a 6/10. The Return of Cooler - Oh man, what was Toei thinking? I'm not sure which is worse, the fact that this movie makes absolutely no sense or the fact that they decided to just copy Freeza's return as a cyborg and repeat it with Cooler. Sure, I just said the fifth movie was a nice little way of doing a Freeza and Goku battle in the movies, but this is just laziness on all sides of the coin. This movie blows chunks as it is also boring and stupid to boot. The action isn't even that good either. I give it a 3/10. Super Android 13 - This movie has some pretty good action scenes in it and compared to the last movie, it is not bad. There is very little plot in it, but the animation looks great and the fights are not boring. Although, Goku going god mode with the Genki Dama while fighting alternate Blanka does kind of ruin it the fight, but it is entertaining nonetheless. I give it a 6/10 stars. |
I finished Psycho-Pass today (yeah couldnt wait for the New Edit Version to finish) and I love that show. I dont know yet if I like it more than Madoka or not but its certainly up there with it as my favorite TV Shows.
