I join this fandom and people were fighting over who was stuck with Rarity.
Flash forward 2 years and all of a sudden she's the popular one?

That's because people didn't realize how great Rarity was and they assumed she was the girly girl that only cared about looks and glamour.

I had a late start with mlp but back then i was "the weird person" for liking rarity the most.

I still hate her, if that makes you feel better...

It seems my crusading for her was too effective.
Now everyone loves her because she's just a total badass and I have to fight for her :lol
Oh well. As long as everywhere knows Rarity's greatness, it was worth it~

When I watched MLP (I marathoned S1 and the first chunk of S2), Rarity steadily rose atop my list of favorites.

oh god yes! with the fact that there are two worlds in mlp, I can't help but get a decade vibe from it, with maybe a little ryuki cause of mirrors. (haven't watched ryuki, only half of dragon knight.)
