We don't really need powerups for the newer Pokemon, i'm thinking it because they're made to fit in the new games while Mega evolution is to help the old Pokemon out in the new games.

Keeps in line with Joy's redesign for Black and White.

True. In fact, I think the Kanto Starters will be in Gen6 just to give players a built-in-to-the-story example of Mega Evolution, like the red Gyrados did for Shinies.
