This is why when you've asked about shipping prices in the past I've said choose SAL, because while it takes longer its usually no more than than £5. |
Because it was like 2 - 4, 3 - 5 days or two weeks - two months. Can I change my shipping option?
|
Nope. You were told what shipping would be the cheapest, which is SAL. Honestly, I would rather have it shipped via a trackable method and pay for shipping and have it in 2 days than a tracking method that is going to take who knows how long. I have no idea what your price is since I'm not familiar with quid, but when I order one figure, I usually pay between $14-19 for shipping through DHL.
|
A quid is a pound. The postage was over twenty dollars if we wanna use that currency, mental! I emailed the international email and asked them to cancel my old order and I've put in another order with SAL postage instead.
I wish they'd just tell me on the page how much my shipping is going to cost, that is a big part of the reason I usually use HLJ or Amazon, it may cost more but at least I know how much I am paying and don't have to basically wait days to find out I don't want to pay that much. |
$20 for EMS is absolutely not mental, in fact its very cheap, no matter what's being sent! It's absolutely crazy to complain about that. I'm sorry, but you should be getting an idea about postage costs yourself before claiming foul play on Mandarake's part or even making the order in the first place and honestly you should've guessed that it'd be more expensive by the fact that they do tell you the time difference between the different postages and that EMS is trackable and insured and a quick Google would've given you confirmation on the price difference. If you don't want to pay express prices, don't order express. As well as getting the item in a quarter (or less) of the time, you are able to track it and it is insured, which it is not in SAL (if the item's lost, you're out of pocket as long as they prove it was sent, for example).
From what I understand, Mandarake actually package, address and weigh the parcel to get an accurate postage charge, that's why you don't get it until the order's confirmed. They're not charging a flat postage fee. |

And I'm sorry if you don't know this but they don't cancel orders very often. Usually when they do, they ban that user from the service. It's all laid out up front how it works so they expect people to know how to use it. It's just like Amiami and their pre-orders. You say you've placed a second order but I hope you're prepared to pay for both now. It clearly states in their FAQ's that they do not cancel orders. |
I've never needed to before, I've only used HLJ and Amazon and they just tell me the postage flat out. As do pretty much every other website. But I'm quite shocked at how expensive EMS is, I'll never understand why people are happy to pay almost as much for postage as they are their item but then I'm not some hardcore collector so yeah.
AmiAmi and now Mandrake are the only websites I've come across where you have to gamble with an order and hope the postage isn't too expensive. Everyone jumps in their defence but to me this seems like a ludicrous shopping model. And I really have no clue why so many are so keen to defend it. Imagine trying to buy an item of clothing in the shops and you get to the til and they tell you you have to pay for the item twice. It's not the same thing, sure, but in terms of money it is. Really? The email says otherwise about cancellations. |

Well if they ban me on just one cancellation, when I am technically still buying the item from them, just with a different shipping option then that is their loss, not mine. I can always grab the same figure, with much cheaper postage on eBay.
I don't have a massive collection but I've got a small collection of Figuarts and never needed to use this site before, so I'm not really broken up about it. |
I've had to cancel orders in the past without problem, but I've also heard from people that they were banned for doing so. Just be polite and I'm sure there won't be a problem.

And people told you go with SAL in the first place. Mandarake says who they are and how they work up front. Just because they charged more than you'd ideally like doesn't mean the site's awful. It's one of the best resources for running down old figures at affordable prices, but you can't tell me you thought 2-4 day shipping from Japan to the UK would be less than $20. If I ordered something from the west coast here in the US shipping would be at least $10 for 2-3 days. |
I emailed them to change it over but then I realised I'd probably be waiting like a week for them to email me back, to sort everything else out and redo my order so now all they have to do is repackage the same item with a new order number. If that is too hard for them then...
EMS is three to five days and I didn't realise the jump between EMS was five days to two months. And if the middle postage is almost twenty five dollars then I dread to think how much DHL is. And I still stand by the fact that if the rest of the world can tell you postage up front, I don't know why Mandrake can't. I'm not saying the site itself is bad but this way of ordering is totally new to me and seems ridiculous. |
The longest Mandarake have ever taken to reply to anything to me is 4 days. That's a total exaggeration. I'm sure they'll get back to you within a day or two, I've never had a problem with them.

Mandarake stock isn't a set of consistent, predetermined items with preorders known well in advance, it's whatever they choose to purchase from Japanese collectors and list for sale. As such, they couldn't keep a database of virtually anything possible that they could ship, with quotes worldwide, when, as actual open stores, these items can also sell to a local customer well before you attempt to place an order. I mean, weren't you wondering why Mandarake brought up taking potentially as much as three days to confirm your order? That's also what makes your idea of buying a second Pegasus so amusing. Depending on the listing, you just agreed to purchase an entirely different Kuuga Pegasus, possibly from a wholly other Mandarake branch. You didn't order "the same figure". |

And don't exaggerate the shipping either dude. EMS is 2-4 days, DHL is 2-3, SAL is 2-3 weeks depending on where your located in the world. Please don't needlessly exaggerate it just because the site isn't to your liking. Quote:

" DHL : with tracking. insurance available only upon requeset (minimum charge 2,500 yen). 2-4days (About DHL)
EMS : with tracking. insurance available only upon requeset (free of charge). 3-5days SAL SMALL PACKET : with tracking, without insurance. 2 wks - 2 month." From Mandrake's website, just quoting what it actually says. |
2-3 weeks is the about the most you'd be waiting though. They only say 2 months because that's around the maximum time it needs to be in transit before it can be declared lost or whatever. Amiami, HLJ and the like all have the same policy.
I've been buying from Japan for about 5 years now and ALWAYS go with SAL shipping. The longest I've ever had to wait for something is 3 weeks. |
Well let's hope they accept my SAL order and it comes within a few weeks!
|
Well, I found something odd with my GokaiGreen. While I can pull the head off like other Figuarts, the hole neck section likes to go along with it. I don't have problems like that with TaToBa, GokaiSilver and GokaiPink, so would you guys suggest the nail polish method on the ball joint connecting the neck to the torso?
|
I don't think Mandarake has a problem changing the shipping method from the one you selected, if you ask before you pay. I think all they have to do is take the same package and apply different rates to the weight/dimensions.
Here's my rule of thumb when ordering from Mandarake: 1 figure: use SAL 2 figures: use SAL unless you really really want them right away, in which case I go with DHL 3+ figures: use DHL If the order is from Mandarake Nakano branch then I use DHL no matter what because it's almost as cheap as SAL there(and nowhere else - no idea why, but Nakano get a big price break on DHL). DHL scales better than EMS for larger orders. They're roughly comparable to a point though. |

So with all this Mandarake talk, I Just ordered Figuarts Gokai Red (3000 yen) and the Morphin Blaster (2000 yen) which are hopefully good deals, but I am thinking of going SAL because its about 1380 yen and the registered part means its trackable right?

What's the fastest shipping from Mandarake to Canda, because I've been using EMS which always costs about $30 and it only takes a few days. Is DHL that fast but more affordable?
EDIT: Nrm, the info I needed was buried in the sea that is this conversation. |
So I just got my package from HLJ containing some figuarts and all the boxes and trays were warped to some extent (and Red Buster's box tape was even cut!). Is it possible humidity from rain could have done this? The package was sitting in between my front glass and regular doors so it didn't get wet but this is annoying.

The tape could have split from being humid, then dry.

Mandrake were fine with it by the way thread.
They said don't do this again and that is cool because I know for next time and I got postage for a fiver this time, rather than fifteen quid. So yay, Pegasus is mine! |

Cancelled the first order and processed my second order with the cheaper shipping.

For what it's worth, Odin's available to order again on HLJ. Depending on shipping and if you already have anything up for order it could end up the same or more expensive than getting it through Amazon/BBTS (for those in the US, anyways), but just an FYI.
|
I just got Deka Blue for 21 quid (with shipping) off the US Amazon. Bloody pleased with that!

I know right! I'm so impressed with this deal I'm gonna wait until it's my hands before I don't think this is some kind of scam.
I'm from the UK tho and I noticed Amazon US do something very sneaky with their marketplace. Even if you do postage plus packaging as the ordering, they put the featured sellers first which might actually be more than the other sellers and I had to do quite a lot of scrolling to get to the non-featured ones, I would have ended up spending about twice the money if I wasn't paying attention. |
