Just finished up Amazon. I still think it lost some of its charm when Garanda was introduced, but overall I really enjoyed the series. A unique Rider and a great cast of side characters (I'm very impressed I didn't feel the urge to strangle Masahiko). Its short length also means that the low-continuity story telling style doesn't get stale either.

I feel bad I didn't vote for Amazon in more rounds of the Rider tournament threads, the guy is literally an animal. A lot of the time he's bleeding before he even transforms. So much blood and limbs getting ripped off.

I never finished the series (Hold laptop had died before I could salvage it and the DL I used for it the first time was gone), but I told you he was awesome.
He was beast. He pretty much lost the Rider tournaments because he was Showa, not because he was a weaker character.

I voted for him a few times, but only after watching the series do I appreciate just how much of a hit he can take and how screwed his opponent is if he comes into contact with them.

Nah. That'd fail because, much like KR, every Showa Rider would get eliminated before they get a proper chance because most aren't subbed and the ones that are suffer from such terrible quality (Both in translation and in video) that not many have made it through them.
Hell, I'm still astounded by how many Heisei series are still incomplete or just unsubbed entirely.

There hasn't been a consistent group subbing Sentai, so the "Ultimate Sentai Team" would be a Zyuranger, a Gokaiger, a Jetman, a Dekaranger, a Shinkenger, and, maybe, a Gekiranger or Dairanger, if left to be decided by this forum.

Continued exposure to that mind control stuff will eventually kill Tachibana. Figured as much. Hajime seems...mildly more amicable than the last time he saw Kenzaki. Guess he's cooling off. ...But probably not. But hey, Tachibana vs Hajime! Pretty cool.

I also like the triple card usage. Especially Tachibana's with the burning rider kick x2.

Oh, Isaka. That who arc between him and Tachibana was great.

And knocked around Ryuki and Knight at the same time. :lol I noticed his contract monster never ate the monster's power/life/Imagin. Not like he needs it. O_O

I love Zolda's Contract monster, Magnugiga. My only problem is just how barrel chested he is, and while it makes sense considering he's guns on guns on missile launches on more guns, I just don't like how unpronounced his head is in comparison to the rest of his body.

All this talk about Ryuki makes me want to watch DK again.

Perhaps you could give Ryuki another chance and finish it?

Never even watched Ryuki, I have so much love for Dragon Knight it'd be weird to see the fights in another context.

Ah, poor Sayako. I knew something like that would happen to her, but at least her words got through to Tachibana. And Hajime seems to be on decent terms with Kenzaki now. So...an ally now, I suppose? Either way, looks like he's gotta rescue Amane again (how many times is this now?) and her mom too. But apparently he knows the Undead that's nabbed 'em...

The only thing I don't like is how his arms are so close together City Defender-style because it's a big suit. But the fact that it's a big suit and not a prop makes up for it.

That's how it works, I'm afraid. If you like an American adaptation of a Toku series, you automatically hate all Japanese Toku.

Though I do recommend Ryuki since it's getting really good. I plan to check out Dragon Knight once I finish Ryuki just to see what's up. (Like I said, I like the Henshins better in DK)

Yeah. It's unfortunate, but I guess it was necessary for Tachibana to actually grow a pair.
And Kenzaki and Hajime stay on good terms, for the most part.

I do love DK, yes I do, I also assumed I was the only one but there must be another out there. I highly recommend it as well, if you can get past the whole adaptation thing and the limits on American kids shows that aren't apparent in Japan. I personally thought stuff like Venting was a fantastic way of being able to still kill the Riders without being taken down by Soccer Mums.

I guess I could always give it another shot.
I thought I only liked PR Turbo for nostalgia's sake, but I ended up legitimately enjoying it.

The same could happen with DK.

BTW, remember how I said I was gonna stop watching Ryuki until I had Zolda? I LIED. Batstove has Den-O style amnesia where he's only forgotten his rider life. WHAT COULD THIS MEAN? I dunno, because I paused it four minutes in to type this.

It gets really dark in places with stuff like Kit dealing with his Dad's disappearance, what Xaviax did to Ventara and like I say Venting is to all extensive purposes is death. Characters fear Venting and some embrace it beautifully and each Rider that is Vented weighs heavy on those who Vented them. The writers of the show said they wanted Dragon Knight to be its own thing and not just a watered down Ryuki and I adore the series.

See, now that wasn't bad at all. Hardly much worse than Ryuki as far as acting or anything. The Dialogue was way, way better than, say, Power Rangers and even with no context that was a really well done "death" scene. That scene alone makes me want to check the show out.

Most of the guys in the show were martial artists rather than actors, so it took them a while to relax into their roles and this was a fairly early point in the show and even then I think, given the kind of show it is and the limitations, that this is a great scene.

Even now Chris' 'Semper Fi' gives me chills.

I feel like a press agent for the show or whatever but I just can't comprehend the hatred for the series, unless it is just your usual toku snobbery, this is a great adaptation and a great addition to the American Toku legacy.

So Ryuki: Scads of people are just dissapearing from trains, and this reporter has witnessed it twice now, and she's done nothing.

Eh, maybe it's just because 10 was so great, but this ep fell flat. It was all setup with a tacked-on fight Hardly a deal breaker, but watching it felt like a formality for the next episode.

OOO 13: Gotta admit, I love the way Ankh is treated in the restaurant. That said I'm fed up of him as a character, I know he's supposed to be a bit of an asshole but I find his constant face like a slapped arse bitterness and tendency for childlike tantrums just annoying, I wish he'd just fuck off and shut the fuck up sometimes the twat.

That Stag-Beetle helmet is pretty awesome, dunno why he didn't use a bigger version of that attack when he used the Insect Combo. SaGoZou was much cooler this week, as the introduction he just screamed for a bit and then did a CGI headbutt.

Also the monster of the week was eh... something else.

One weird aside note, were the actors badly treated on set on this show? Everyone has very bloodshot eyes, with big puffy red bags, which is a sign of either sleep deprivation or drug use. I've noticed that a lot on Japanese shows, just look at King's eyes on Kyoryuger as well for example.

Well, unlike PR, they don't get multi-month long breaks between airing. They have to film upwards of 50 episodes and 2 movies (Minimum), so they have to put in a lot of work.
And while I'm not sure how TV filming works, I'm pretty sure the series is still filming as it airs.

Anyway, Ankh's assholishness is in character, since he's a Greed, so he's supposed to be the living embodiment of "I WANT THIS!"
It's not an excuse to force you to like him, but just a mild justification of why he acts that way.

I feel sorry for the actors in that case.

And Ankh to me feels like one of the stars of Sweet 16, I find his immaturity disgusting and a pain to watch. I spend every episode wanting to repeatedly kick him in the balls and not in a fun way.

I mean, he is a bad guy. It's not like he had a change of heart. He's just an arm hiding behind a karate bugman.

But he isn't a compelling villain as all he does is throw tantrums. That is his entire character in these first thirteen episodes, just one long, hipster dressed tantrum. At first it was kinda cool, then kinda funny, then white noise then FOR THE LOVE OF CHRIST PLEASE SHUT THE FUCK UP.

Don't get used to that helmet. At some point Eiji loses that medal and it's the only one he never gets back outside of the movies.

Wow so something I actually like about OOO...gets taken out of the series. I've said it before, and I'm gonna say it again, I really don't think OOO is for me. It isn't a bad series, it's just a by the numbers series, and after having so much fun with Fourze, I just feel so unenthused by OOO.

General consensus is that the CGI budget for all the GataKiriBa clones made it too expensive to use more than a couple times.

And hold on at least until Birth shows up. Date is one of the best secondary Riders ever.

I guess that makes sense, the budget doesn't feel massive on OOO, each fight feels a little more restrained than the last.

What episode number does this happen? That gives me something to aim for.
