Have you read the original manga? Crystal is literally (with some pacing issues dues to fluffing out an entire episode) following the Manga. Lol!

I'm sure fans are sick of hearing this, but I cannot stand the look of Crystal. I decided to just deal with the filler and watch the original.

So he's actually made two films. The one I was thinking of is Verotika, from 2019. I think everybody else is talking about Death Rider in the House of Vampires, which I didn't know existed until now. To be honest, you're probably better off not even bothering with either.

I assumed you meant being able to roll or properly use that equipment, actually taking damage on purpose as your whole playstyle will probably not do you any good in these games.

Yeah, exactly. At a certain point all Soulslikes shepherd you into damage avoidance rather than mitigation and while you can go on and on about how it's about developing skill rather than lolfacetanking... It directly conflicts with the idea of playing how you want, now doesn't it?

When it comes to Sailor Moon, I feel like the best watch order is to start with the original until the end of Sailor Moon R, and then switch over to season 3 of Crystal and call it done. (Wasn't a fan of Super or SuperS)

I liked S a lot but it's definitely where the weaknesses starting showing a lot more, and I could barely stand SuperS. But I've committed to watching all of it and I'm a lady of my word- thankfully I've only got Sailor Stars left from the OG.

PGSM is pretty solid so far though, really enjoying that.

The only filler I really cared for in the original anime was the Rainbow Crystal stuff.

Just a quick remind to y'all. Season 3 of Crystal is S. And the new two-part movie "Eternal" is Super S. All we're waiting on now is some form of adaptation of Stars.

Let's see here....about a good half of the series? Almost all of the first season was filler. They had an entire filler arc for the first 1/3-1/2 of R (the Doom Tree Arc). Those are just the examples off the top of my head. The manga was very to the point and was mostly plot point after plot point. The original anime added a lot of content to make full-length seasons. As well as altering some of the story in some ways.

And it was some of the best/most endearing moments of the show, too.

At the same time, you're going against the idea of the game. You can do it, the same way people can beat these games without leveling up, but you probably won't have much of a fun time.

I would compare it to trying to win in a racing game by going slow. Might be possible somehow, but why would you, instead of trying to enjoy the rush of going fast?

So the manga doesn't really have any "breather" moments or filler moments of its own?

Back when Crystal came out, I watched a YouTube video saying that Crystal shouldn't be one's introduction to Sailor Moon.

Yeah. No. The manga has no breathing room. As for Crystal not being an introduction to Sailor Moon....that's purely personal taste. The animation style is rather...interesting. It tries to mimic Naoko's style of art, but makes them look like those super anorexic dolls that girls like these days. And some of the animations used didn't exactly turn out right. *looks at rod twirling incident* But over all it's faithful to the manga.

Right, but again- how is that different from Strongly Encouraging specific playstyles later down the line? I've done enough WoW in my time to know that adapting to encounters doesn't just mean flipping around like coin toss championships, some fights you genuinely just have outlast the other guy blow for blow.

Also the art style is too... stiff. There's no fluidity, no emotion to it, until S3.

Contrast the 90s series which was a treasure trove of amazing reactions and emotions.

I have to disagree here. Start with the manga. Start where it all began. IMO, starting with 90's anime is what's led to people thinking that anything else is wrong. Both are valid, I'll never say they aren't. But if you start with utmost basic of the series and lore, you can build off that with the 90's anime.

Just make sure you ignore the original dub. Either watch subbed or the newer dubs.

And that's where I strongly disagree. The DiC/Cloverway dub, for its flaws, is not without charm.

But the Viz dub is probably going to be easier to find unless you reside on the Gokai Galleon.

I won't lie, the DiC/Cloverway dubs do have their charm. But their censorship is what kills the entire dub for me. Making Haruka and Michiru "cousins" when there's clearly more going on there. It's just wrong. WRONG I SAY!

It is interesting to argue if they encourage or discourage playstyles.

Bleed works very well in this game, so people who abuse this will find the game much easier. Is it encouraged by the developers to do so because of that? It kind of ruins the appeal of the game so you won't have as much fun with it IMO, but it is possible.

Similarly, if you neglect basic elements of the game, liking rolling out of harm?s way, is your playstyle discouraged? You can still do it.

See I use a very basic armor, the posterboy one, it?s not very good. I like the way it looks. I use a very basic sword, I like the way it looks. And I use a very basic shield because I don?t use shields aside from parrying anymore. I don?t use the new summon mechanic very often either. I just want to go in and whack stuff with my sword until they are dead.

Do I have a harder time? I think I do. But I like it this way, and I always succeed sooner or later. That's why I don?t feel pressured into needing to adapt to a specific playstyle, I can ignore game mechanics and still win, but I need to adapt in a different way than rearranging equipment, in this case be ready to lose a lot in order to learn patterns. But it is possible.

But outlasting in Souls games is more like try to not get hit, because not dying makes you live longer :lol

And that's why it's funny, 20 years later.

I did not earn my stripes as a Tankadin by not getting hit, goddammit!

Argh, I wanna catch up on SODO and AmiAmi has Revice waves 1,2,4, and 5 but also there's a toy fair on the 26th and I wanna save money for that.

So I literally just finished Symphogear (seriously, just saw the final episode of XV like five minutes ago and I need to get this off my chest) and holy cow this was the most interesting binge-watching ride I've ever experienced.

As a literary student studying how to write stories, I acknowledge that it wasn't really 'deep'; in fact it was downright stupid at times. But was it enjoyable? Heck yeah it was! From beginning to the end it was a really emotional ride that reminded me of when I first watched Kamen Rider Gaim (my toku gateway drug); I didn't know what to expect due to experiencing a new genre and I loved (almost) every moment of it.

I really don't know how to summarise this show because of all the sheer hot-blooded-ness and just how fun this series was but this image I found pretty much describes my viewing experience.

Farewell Symphogear. It wasn't just a ride, it was an experience.

Summed it up in one. One does not watch Symphogear, one experiences it with ones entire being and then wonders what the hell just happened after it is over. I love the strange way Kaneko writes and I have never seen such unbridled hot blooded insanity in my life before or since. It genuinely doesn't matter that the show is flat out stupid, or even bad, at times! I personally didn't get too much out of the third and fourth seasons as a whole in spite of some highs, but it was absolutely worth it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Symphogear is an amazing series. I'm definitely obsessed with the transformation chants and the swan song chant.

I'm finally getting ready to film my review of the Kamen Rider 1971 manga. Between being busy and the book being a huge chonker, it took me a while to get to this point. I'm really excited to get it out, though. I hope everybody digs it.

I've been interested in Symphogear for a while, I just haven't taken the plunge yet. Maybe I'll watch it once I finish what I'm currently watching? (probably not, tbh :lol)

Man this fight was hard. And harkens back to what I discussed with Tali a bit, because with my build of choice I couldn't beat the boss. Or at least face weeks of trying, and I didn't want to do that, I don't like dealing with RNG. So I had to switch equipment and summon a spirit to help, otherwise I wouldn't have made it.

I don't like it when the weather starts to get warmer because I find it SO much harder to sleep for some reason. I can sleep like a rock in the wintertime!

That's human biology for ya. We're supposed to not do jack in the colder weather to conserve energy, and the warmer weather is when we'd do the whole hunter-gather thing so we'd survive the next cold.

How I long for those days. Or actual cold weather. Got like two weeks of actual winter, I freaking hate the American south.
