Yeah. G Gundam was made in '94, so it's dated animation really does bring it down some. It certainly wouldn't hurt to get a HD re-release.

I guess it's just lucky I'm watching Tekkaman alongside it, as that came out around the same time. It's only when I jump over to Penguindrum that I realise just how dated both shows look.

Penguindrum 3.

So the show is still largely directionless, I mean I know there is the quest for the Pengiundrum but no one knows what the hell that is and so the last two episodes have just involved our heroes following a creep around some Japanese city. I would say this show was flat out boring if it wasn't for the comedy penguins.

And before someone says it, I recognise that at its core, it's just a very human story about human things but I dunno, I find it hard to care about human stories that are animated. I know that makes no sense, but I dunno, I just find these stories more easily engageble when realised in the real world, even if it's really just an artificial set in reality.

Plus this show is still really weird. It's almost like a horror movie but played as a goofball comedy and that somehow only makes it more disturbing. Also what the hell is with Japan and curry? And that diary, is this Mirai Nikki?

Watched Bakemonogatari episode 3.

I remember why I never got past this episode now, its just so boring in comparison to the first two.

Plus are there parks really that cool in Japan?

I'd rather Wing get an HD re-release first. Of course, Gundam is pretty much dead in the US with Bandai gone as no one is going to bother licensing the series and stuff anymore.

Nah. I know Wing had the massive following in the US back in 2000, but I couldn't stay awake during an episode to save my life. I'd much prefer G to Wing.
Also, G came first, anyway.

While there's nothing particulary special about episode 3, my favorite season 1 arc is easily Mayoi Snail, so maybe the other 2 episodes will change your mind.

Gundam would see a re-emergence if they would just change the story a little. Look, I love Gundams. But every story since Mobile Suit Gundam, except for things like 8th MS Team and G Gundam, follow that exact story. The Evil Orginization in Space, the Main Anti-Hero in Red with a Mask. And on and on and on again. SEED Destiny even brought back ZAKU's!

If they came back to the United States with an original story, with original characters, it would sell. Or if they even made an updated Mobile Suit Gundam with updated character and mech designs. I'd watch and buy all of that. All of it.

Ironically, G Gundam is often portrayed as the "Black sheep" of the Gundam franchise for being the first series to break away from both the Universal Century story line and by altering the "Gundam story device."
Granted, I only know this from Wing and UC fans who absolutely loathed G, and not the fanbase as a whole...

Which is sad. And alot of the reason why Gundam dissappeared in America. G Gundam is an excellent series, and those Gundam designs were wonderfully weird. Especially the Four Grand Kings.

But it's the only way they're going to lure in people who aren't die hard "OMG HEERO IS SO HOT" Wing Fans and begin selling again in America. Then MMPR is selling so well again maybe they don't really want to.
