It's just an unfortunate coincidence. The LAPD doesn't care about the release schedule of a suspect's 15-year-old tv series and they definitely haven't been communicating with Saban or Shout Factory about PR (public relations, not Power Rangers) concerns. The timing is weird, yes, but coincidences happen.

At the end of the day, this will go to trial. If the jury decides this was legitimately self defense then he'll be acquitted; if they feel it wasn't then he'll go to jail. Either way, we'll probably get a much better sense of what happened as the trial unfolds (assuming it gets good press coverage).

Unless there's an entirely separate case that I'm forgetting about, the guy in the one you're thinking of was an unnamed extra and the media just blew it out of proportion when they found out he'd been in Power Rangers.

Was there another case? I'm certain there was something tragic that was connected to PR (however erroneously) back in its heyday? Might have even been mentioned by the late Walter Cronkite on 60 Minutes during a P.R.-focused segment!

Except I didn't know he was just let go. I don't pay attention to the finer details because I just don't care. I saw articles say, "He was arrested," followed by month's later, "released." I just assumed they found him not guilty considering it was self defense.

Medina has plead guilty to voluntary manslaughter and will be spending up to six years in prison.

Huh, I had assumed sentencing and such had already been done by now.

That's the glory of the US penal/court system. You can go through the court process and it'll take weeks or months before you're actually sentenced.

I wonder if they will count any time he spent in jail (if any was) towards his sentence?
