Uh, but RPM was adapted from Go Onger which was one of the goofiest Sentai. So just because a show is more light or dark in one version is no obsticale to changing the tone if you want to.

Go-Onger was a goofy car Sentai and yet gave it the opposite of that tone. Carrangers was also a lighthearted sentai they tried to make it more series than it needed to.

Maybe because the love triangle between a dull character and two unlikeable ones has to do something about it. Including when one of the good guys sexually harasses another good guy and it's seen as ok. Oh, and the villains were dumb. Maybe the rest of Jetman kiiiiiinda gets better but for me, an unlikeable cast and shitty looking mech for literally half of the show isn't worth it

Which two? Kaori and Maria? The love affair is between Ryu and Maria. Ryu-Kaori only comes in toward the end.

Gai loves Kaori and Kaori loves Ryu, which does make a love triangle.
Gai literally forced himself on Kaori, french kissing her without consent. There's being a jackass and there's being a criminal. Kaori is an absolute bitch but not even she'd deserve that

The backstabbing is exactly that. Papa Smurf suddenly backstabbing at the last possible second for the Jetmen to survive is fucking stupid of him

That could work well, then maybe Hasbro could get someone else to make the show if they don't feel Saban is doing a good enough job advertising their toys.

Though if Hasbro ends up owning the brand it could be that toy ads are ALL that would be allowed in the show...

Well, haven't their shows been well received? MLP sticks out as something that isn't too toyetic imo
