All I've ever tormented is Rider, and while we've always assumed Toei didn't care about that, that's no longer the case

that isn't the case, either - statements like this are just fear mongering. the many years of consistent distribution, hosting all of these torrents on their websites, and advertisement for said websites are the issues. think about how many years it's been since the big sub groups started doing this, only to just now get hit with a genuine C&D order. TV-Nihon and OT said themselves that they'll be fine - they literally just stopped for now in order to keep themselves safe. hell, OT even said themselves they'll just upload to nyaa instead. it seems a lot of people here don't use discord or twitter.

even streaming websites aren't affected at all because the uploaders will just end up going to nyaa instead of whichever sub group's website they went to before.

fansubbing in of itself is a bit of a gray area as seen in other communities, but no one that has strictly uploaded toku subs has gotten hit with a C&D yet - and it's hard to see why they ever would.

no one in the world has the time to give a shit about individuals who are downloading torrents. bigger people than toei can't, never have, or ever will bother.
the absolute worst thing that can happen to you is your ISP hits you with a meager fine.

You're probably right about it not being an issue, but honestly, I've been meaning to get a VPN for ages. Seems like techy types tend to recommend it for reasons beyond just safer torenting

yeah, VPNs are an amazing investment in this day and age - if this ordeal doesn't convince people of that then I don't know what will.

No More Rider And Ranger Subs from TV Nihon
 

Toei has sent TV Nihon a Cease And Desist order to end fan subs recently so no more Torrents for these shows.

I soon expect this to be the case for Ultra and the Sheriff franchises soon as well.

how is this news? did you forget to post this 5 months ago when everyone and their mom cried over it and nothing ended up happening?

TV N is trying to verify the letter from what I read on their page but as a fail safe anything held by Toei has been removed from their torrent areas. They footage have the stuff backed up on their hard drives. Anything non Toei owned is still up.

I know it's hard, but you should probably try reading the part where all this panned out 5 months ago. this wasn't big news even at the time - people just misunderstood. everyone by now realizes nothing has actually changed if you're an active consumer
