I can get on board for $25. That $40 was too much when there's no dub, extras, DVD copies, etc..
|
Sorry for the small necro.
I've taken some interest in the Garo franchise after seeing Kami no Kiba trailers. and plan to watch the series in a chronological order. I've seen the chronological order KRWolfblade suggested on page 47. Would that be the right order to watch everything in a chronological order (updated up to 2018 series) ? : Quote:
PS : I don't plan to watch the anime series |

Yes I just put Gekkou no Tabibito because I know its existence at least, and was mainly here to confirm I should watch it after the Bikuu movie. |
There's also Makai Retsuden, which you would watch after you've watched everything else basically.

Watched first 2 eps of Garo already. It's kind of watching a mix of Kiva and Hibiki atmospheres. I like it a lot to be honest (surprisingly because I don't like Hibiki really :/). The battle choreographies out of suit are awesome. |
I wish Kiba came backs somehow with a new user. Not Barago.

First of all, apologizes for the thread necromancy but I didn't think this had it's own thread. But has anyone else checked out the P Garo Kouga stuff yet? It's three short mini eps that explain what happened to Kouga and Karou before Makai no Hana. It was a youtube thing originally I think, and TV-nihon subbed all three episode if you're interested.

I don't think they have episode title, it took a bit but I did find the link for the first one

Figured since the latest Garo Movie is out that I'd end up reviving this thread. Surprisingly the wait for subs was easier this time since the movie had a home release on the 18th. Turns out the home release had English Subtitles so now a torrent is just out and about.
So as a result last night I watched Garo Moonbow Traveler. This'll be a fairly vague and non-spoilery type ramble. But... I absolutely adored it! I've always sorta preferred the Saejima-verse version of Garo in comparison to the Ryuga-verse version, and given Makai Senki and Makai no Hana are like my top 2 in terms of Garo Shows, this movie did a lot for me. The music is really nice, the main theme of sorts for the background music that was heard in the trailers is just, real nice to listen to. But then you've just got all these returning themes for certain scenes and they really just help pack a beautiful punch if you've watched all of the Saejima Timeline Shows and Movies. Like there's one moment, where the music kicks into one specific theme that had me just cheering the whole time. The movie is also just nice aesthetically, the first half is very whimsical and mysterious and the little twists they pull are nice, some are obvious, others not as much. Of course though, the action like always is greatly on point. And just all the references to everything, certain lines being said towards the end that almost quote word for word from stuff like Chapter of the Black Wolf. All the little cameos, references, surprise appearances in characters I did not expect. Not to mention the side characters all get some nice little moments in this movie, Crow gets some real MvP Moments, I enjoyed Mayuri a lot in this movie and I kinda dig what they have her doing here, and Gonza had a real nice moment in the later half. Also that final battle, one I was not expecting them to pull out a reference to one certain thing. But also, just the way the final battle was handled, especially the final, final finisher against our big bad, was just handled so well. Teared up a little at the end too when they started connecting stuff together. Overall, fantastic movie, while I'm not sure where it ranks yet, I'd definitely put it in my Top 3 Garo Flicks for sure, the other two being Lament of the Dark Dragon and Divine Flame. |
One word... Awesome If this was the final chapter in the Saejima-verse storyline. I was 100% satisfied.
|
Man, that movie was so good. For how long it took to get made (Makai no Hana was 2014 and the idea of a Raiga/Mayuri movie has been kicking around since it ended) it was definitely worth the wait. It does feel a little like two separate films knit together in the middle, but it still works really well. The first half is Garo going full weird, with some of the most bizarre imagery the series has ever pulled off. The second half is more grounded with a bunch of emotional moments and wire-work fight scenes. I love both halves equally. It really does feel like the end of the Saejimas' story and on that front it's very emotionally satisfying - there was a late hour cameo that absolutely brought some tears to my eyes. I wouldn't be surprised to see Rei or Rekka again, but I think we're done with this family and it all ended on a really high note.
|
Yeah the only thing that can possibly top the movie is if Kouga finally teams up with Ryuga.
But I wouldn't mind if this is Kouga's last appearance. |
Sooo Garo Versus Road Episode 1: Wowie
This is so different, yet so familiar in a sense. Given how Moonbow Traveler ended, I don't really blame them for trying to find some way to do Garo a whole lot more differently than before. I mean, it's hard to top standard Garo entertainment like what we got with that movie. So the premise does end up sounding interesting, plus I keep hearing a lot of people say that it seems partially inspired by Vanishing Line, which I still need to finish, only got up to Episode 3. It's nice how we do get into like the main bulk of it immediately and to give us a breather from all the panic we get some flashbacks to see how we got here. Seeing Garo PS2 as a fighting game is surprising, though from the trailer I saw of it, it did seem to have a 2 player versus component so that kinda makes sense. Also one thing I do actually like a lot, these Techno Basic Horror's we've got, it's been a while since the basic horror's have been a threat. Most days they seem to be common enemy fodder, so pushing them in with a bunch of people who have no idea on how to defend themselves against them, makes them a lot more scarier than they were previously. It is nice though that it isn't just a "All Gamers are trapped" sorta deal, you've got what looks like mob members, general unruly punks, and just people from all walks of life that got stuck in this hellhole of a online game. Two random things to take away from this for me though, was not expecting that YTuber dude to namedrop Jurassic Park like that. Also I'm suddenly craving waffle burgers thanks to that flashback scene of our main protag at the restaurant. Needless to say, I am intrigued. |
I'm not sure what I think yet. I'm not an anime fan, but I know enough about where the genre that I recognize exactly what the show is doing. From that perspective, there's nothing here that feels very original, even for someone who's never watched the dozens and dozens of isekai that dominated the last decade of anime. We've got some generic stock characters and... and that's about it, so far, from a story perspective.
The show looks pretty good so far, though. The action scenes were nicely handled and I'm kind of digging the more "cyber" redesigns of the Garo and generic Horror suit. So far it's mostly just dudes fighting each other, though. I'm sure we'll get something more Garo-y eventually, but it looks like the show's going to be more of a slow burn. I didn't dislike it, don't get me wrong. I just wasn't especially wowed. But at least there's no Jinga (so far). |
Where do you watch the new eps of versus road can’t find it on YouTube or online.

I still prefer the chivalrous kind of GARO, but I really liked this first ep.
nothing new, but the fight scenes are awesome. Im not a huge fan of the "close to the actors shaky cam" but everything else is really good. |

Saw the first ep, honestly the first thing that comes to mind while watching this is that one ep of Makai Flower where the Horror lures people into her "Terror Simulator" which was actually just a portal to the Makai Realm.
Anyhow, so everything seems okay. The part I'm most interested about is that during the trailer for the show, the MC(?) Kuon somehow summons a sword to defend himself: https://youtu.be/VUX_d5exudA?t=18 And it's completely different from the Garoken shown with the armor at the beginning of the episode. This probably means that we'll get to see armored combat later on, but not with the actual Garo armor till the very end of the show, hopefully this won't be a deal beaker for some people. |
Versus Road Episode 2 is up on OT.
Overall it felt more of the same as episode 1, just with more focus on the white haired guy (Amou?). The reveal of all players returning back to reality after the round ends caught me off guard. Also, extremely minor nitpick, but did someone else the subs for most of Garo? During the final scene of the episode, the evil guy in the chair says "Let your Karma feed Garo." But I feel like the correct term would've been "Let your Inga feed Garo." It's not a knock against OT, I'm just more used to the phrase rather than Karma. |

Nothing much to say about the episode. It's pretty much the same qualities and problems I have with the first. It's still very enjoyable because of the really cool action scenes (That Amou guy really has cool wrestling moves like german supplex and all). JAM Project is still 100% good after all these years doing GARO themes and they blend so well. |
Still not sure what to make of the show overall. I'm intrigued by some of the characters, but I don't feel like I know any of them well enough to like them yet. The action was really visceral; the lack of monster suits or armor makes it all feel a lot more brutal. I was honestly flinching a little bit near the end when Kuon was about to punch that dude. Aside from that, though, I still need to know a lot more about what's going on. As a longtime Garo fan, I know that the idea of feeding negative karma to Garo is not how any of that works, so I'm really curious to see what's up with the overarching storyline.
|
Well, episode 3 certainly happened. I honestly have no idea what to think about the show at this point. It's definitely holding my interest, but I don't think I'd go as far as to say I'm actively enjoying it. I am 100% ride or die for that guy's dog, though.
|
Episode 4 had a couple of interesting twists. Most of them I saw coming, but one of them still at least surprised me in the execution. Bunny Boy definitely shot up the list of characters that I find intriguing as opposed to boring. I'm still not really sure what I think about this Garo-less Garo, but it is definitely growing on me. I was going to put off watching it for a few more days, but then I literally dreamed about it last night. That's rare and it's definitely a sign that the show is registering for me on some level.
|
Kuon finally passes to the next round with the simplest way to get the key.
Takane once betrayed he take revenge immediately . and he collected a lot of keys without shared it with others. So, those who die in the real world is the one who eaten by Horror? How about other who killed by other player the the game world, did they died in real world also? Because in the first game, i see that all player was back to real world safely. This season has only 12 episodes, it seems that until last episode we will only get the winner of this game. Hopefully there will be a sequel that will show us what mission that will be given for the winner of Garo Armor. |
Man, episode 6, I did not expect you to go there. I still have no idea what's going on here or if I even like this show, but I'm still really surprised that you played that card. Damn.
|
Versus Road is not doin much for me. It feels to different from normal Garo stuff just not into it. No armor fights to many people talkin it does not offer a trilling story and the bad people are just boring. It needs an armor battle soon.
|
Oh good, managed to find this thread again despite it being buried.
So I ended up binging 2 to 4 and then watched 5 and 6 as they aired. Still very much intrigued by this messed up Virtual Reality Game that's going on. There seems to be hints at the end goal here and this game is definitely not made with any righteous intent. Needless to say, Episode 6 caught me off guard with what it did at the end, was not expecting that. Will say though I continue to love Versus Road for making the basic Horror's extremely scary. At first I thought "Oh they got techno bits cause it's a Virtual Reality game, cute haha" and then the most recent episode comes along and says that they've got limiters on them and then I'm like. "Oh no that is not a fashion statement, that's weighted training gear." |
Kuon oh Kuon..
A Good boy who didn't know his goal. And of couse he is very lucky can stand until this stage. I like how they show how desperate Kuon is. Hope we can have good development of Kuon. Hosiai dead is good for the flow of the story. What happen with Garo, does Garo is not realy exist anymore? Hope this show will not end until end of this Game. I want to know the continuation after end of the Game. |

I liked the original version of Garo. The first two seasons and the three movies that accompanied them. As well as the one season and the one recent movie that focuses on the son of the original Garo character. All of the other stuff they could've kept. -Garo 2.0 -Zero -Those Animes -Bikuu -Jinga I would like to have seen more of Kouga Saezima and his adventurers then what we had got. I would've loved to have had a series that focused on Kouga's father. (just find a man to play the younger version of him for earlier flash backs from his past) I was fond of Makai Retsuden though. But that's because I'm already familiar with the characters that were featured in there. Now this click bait Garo series. 8 episodes in with 4 to go and no Garoing going on at all. Now I see if this series was 25 episodes. Then I could accept what we're getting from them. Because I'd know we still had a good amount of time left to get to some Garoing done. But that's not the case here. :( |
I suppose since Episode 7 and 8 are connected I might as well put my thoughts out.
Still pretty interesting, I'm really enjoying how crunchy the fight scenes end up being, it's just a shame Hyuuga isn't around anymore, the dude was really one of the more impressive fighters. Still we're down to 4 contestants and it looks like we're going to finally have some clarification as to what's going on next week. Also can I just say I enjoy YTuber man doing research and trying to figure out what's going on, and essentially discovering that this whole thing is pretty much your standard Horror Plot, though in this case with a twist. Still curious to see where this is all going, and still having a blast. Speaking of, random notes. -That cute sword charm is called Deluxecalibur and I find that name amazing. -Anyone else hungry for Waffle Burgers after seeing Kuon eat one constantly? |

And as it turns out Takane's knife is also based on the one they had in their past, meaning all the weapons are specifically meant to be important to the player. I know that sounds extremely obvious, but I bring it up because now I can't help but wonder: What possible childhood trauma or memory lead to that one guy in round 3 wielding a spiked ball on a chain? |
Look like the "prologue" goes back to more traditionnal Garo as we knew it, roots of the story are more classic than the rest of the show.So it's definetly not related to any existing continuity.
|
I must say Episode 9 was definitely a change of pace. Granted I'm really curious as to what the hell is exactly wrong with the Makai Order in the VR-verse, cause wowie that's very much so a hell-ish and stupid way to actually try and pick a new Garo.
|
Vs.road ep11
Well ep11 came and went- never thought I'd ever see overtime give a content warning on an episode- and after watching the episode WOW was that justified
Anyway next week we hopefully finally get to see the new garo suit in action |
Here we are a week later and the series in now over
................................................... What can I say except: ok, now what? The series left way to many things unanswered (for example- why give us a character like azami IF YOU AREN'T GOING TO EXPLAIN ANYTHING ABOUT HER??) Look I get it, they wanted to try something new the franchise has never done before- and they did a pretty good job Don't get me wrong- I liked the series, it just doesn't feel like a garo story- everything related to garo: the armor, the horrors, the makai order. It all feels like it was shoehorned in at the last minute Just like many anime over the last few years (both originals and adaptations) I genuinely feel that this show suffered a great deal from the 12 episode format- the format rarely allows a story to be built up properly |
Didn't comment on Episode 10 or 11 but yeah they were pretty good at building up towards the finale.
Speaking of the finale, I really, really enjoyed it. The idea that we have this super deconstructed, just not at all familiar setting in Garo that slowly but sure is fully built back up to what the Garo armor is about, "Hope" is just really cool. I also love how Kuon himself is just so done with Azami and Hagiri to the point of even shouting, "An armor to surpass Garo? What the hell does that even mean?!" as possibly one of my favorite highlights of this series. Also just idea of the "Power of Friendship" power up in this case being Kuon choosing to live on after seeing everyone around him die because of this horrible game and even using their own moves to help beat the Veil armor. And then just at the end, him continuing to rub salt in Hagiri's wounds about his mishapen ideals, and Kuon's selflessness being too much for Azami to even comprehend so she just leaves. I really enjoyed this series and am honestly glad this was the ending they chose purely because well... it's open ended. It feels like it could be the start of a new universe because tbh and as I said when I first saw Versus Road... The Saejima Saga/Universe is very nicely wrapped up/has a fair deal of closure thanks to Moonbow Traveler, to where it'd feel weird if we went back there. On the opposite end, the Ryuga-verse feels like they're really running out of stuff to really expand on. To the point where Jinga itself feels so, so very disconnected from the Ryuga-verse when it takes place. So I'd really love it if they decided to continue on in the Versus Road universe because this conclusion definitely feels like they left it open enough for at least one sequel. |
