In other news I bought that special edition version of The Killing Joke released in...05(?) to brush up on the story after reading Batgirl. Firstly, the presentation of the book is gorgeous, especially with the new colouring - it puts modern art (or at least all the art I've experienced in New 52) to shame. The only weird thing about it, is Batman has changed a LOT since that comic was written. I barely recognised him, honestly. |
I love teh hard cover to The Killing Joke because it also includes some extra stories.
BTW, if you like The Killing Joke check out Superman: Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow. It is also by Alan Moore and acts as a nice conclusion to Superman's story. It also includes For the Man Who Has Everything and then a Superman/Swamp Thing crossover. |

The Authority?
BTW, we finished episodes 15-18 of Arrow S2 last night and I was about ready to soil myself when they mentioned Manheim in one episode as I was almost expecting them to bring in Darkseid. They didn't, but it would have been pretty damn awesome. Only five episodes to go. I cannot wait for S3, Flash, and Constantine this Fall. |
It's like ultra violent and very on the nose.
The Midnighter (Batman) and Apollo (Superman) are married, in one story Apollo gets raped and the Midnighter returns this by raping the rapist back...with a jackhammer. http://www.geekquality.com/blog/wp-c...midnighter.jpg http://img46.photobucket.com/albums/...thorityPg2.jpg There is also a guy called the Doctor who can do ANYTHING and a guy called Jack who can talk to cities. http://writeups.org/img/fiche/4973a.jpghttp://politedissent.com/images/nov06/authority_1.jpg |
No, Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow is a two part story of a reporter interviewing Lois about the last days of Superman before he disappeared.

Just finished Season 2 of Arrow and to say I am feel a little let down is an understatement. Oh, it was great but it just seems off because of the lack of Metahumans, especially from Black Canary as I just do not care for the Lances in this show at all. I'm sure we will see things occur from it in Season 3, but I really was expecting a cameo from Flash or something in the finale.

So Yesterday I sat down and finally read Batman R.I.P. and what can I say but...I fel kinda letdown.
So many People have told me about this Storyarc and how its one of the best in Batman history and to be honest it kinda wasnt. Its a really good book but I think I kinda got overhyped and went in with too high expectations. I love Morrisons Batman stuff revolving around Dick under the cowl so I really wanted to read more about the things that lead up to that. I dont know exactly what it is though that kept me from enjoying this as much as other people did. The story was kinda confusing and the Batman of Zurr en arrh was not that different from regular Bats except he was maybe a little more nuts? :lol Maybe Ihave to sit down again in a week or so now that I know what happens but right now I enjoyed it but cant see why its regarded as one of the best. |
People liked Batman RIP?

Okay this makes me feel alot better that I wasnt blown away by the book :lol

Yeah, I thought RIP was terrible and there is not a single person I know that likes it. Some of my friends thought it started out good but then went down hill, especially when you knew it took place before Final Crisis, so Batman was not going to do.
|
What I really found lacking about the book was that it had some really great ideas but never went anywhere with them. Like the whole backup identity or that Thomas Wayne might still be alive.

Read the first issue in the second Batgirl trade, love the new artist - although I can't tell who is more obsessed with Barbara's legs, me or the new artist! Legz 4 dayz.

In my honest biased opinion, everyone should read all the Lantern Universe books (Green Lantern, Green Lantern Corps, Green Lantern New Guardians, Red Lanterns, and Sinestro.) and Swamp Thing. Also Justice League 3000 is pretty fun, crazy, and intriguing.
|
So I finally read all of Forever Evil over the last two days and it was mediocre at best. There were some enjoyable parts, such as Deathstroke's paycheck conversation with Luthor, Cold's song to voice activate his Cold Gun (along with the outcome) and the fight between Sinestro and Power Ring, but as a whole, it was just stupid. The Justice League was knocked out for the entire thing, making their use of the CSA pointless. Batman and Catwoman seemed poorly written, and once again, if you don't follow any of the other stories, you have no idea what the hell is going on. It seemed like there was no semblance of time at all. Did the whole thing take place in the span of a day? A few months? And why did one group say that Earth 3 was destroyed by Darkseid and then they show the Anti-Monitor as being the one who destroyed it? Plus, the whole Alexander Luthor thing being evil was also annoying as the whole point of Earth 3 is to have everyone be the opposite of what they are on Earth 1. Finally, the entire thing seemed to just be made to lead into another multi cross over big event series. ARGH!!! What happened to nice one issue stand alone stories? Why can't we get a bunch of those before we got into another huge event? I give Forever Evil a 2/5 stars.

So is it just me, or is Future's End pretty much just Days of Future Past in the DC world?
|
I actually followed Green Lantern from the rebirth right into the Sinestro War but the book spiralled into greater and greater size that I just couldn't physically follow it.
To this day I have no idea what the actual trade order was from Rebirth, to Blackest Night, to New 52 which isn't actually New 52 but there is about a hundred trades along the way. |
If you just wanna read the Green Lantern book (not stuff like Corps,Red Lanterns etc.) this order should be the best to go by.
Green Lantern Rebirth No Fear Revenge of the Green Lantern Wanted: Hal Jordan Sinestro Corps War Rage of the Red Lanterns Secret Origin Agent Orange Blackest Night and Blackest Night: Green Lantern Green Lantern: Brightest Day War of the Green Lanterns War of the Green Lanterns: Aftermath And then you just continue reading all of the N52 stuff. |
^ I will do that, thanks for the list!
About half way through the second Batgirl New 52 trade...my God this book is good. Batgirl herself isn't the most interesting hero in the world as her only real power is punching things, but like Batman the villains make up for her lack of flash. And the interesting artwork makes the action much flashier than it really is. But the real strength of this book is Simone's approach to Barbara, I can honestly say I've never had any interest in Barbara but Simone always comes out her from such interesting angles and the result is always so satisfying I just love it. Still holding out for my Mirror mini series though... |
Just finished Zatanna and Black Canary: Bloodspell. It wasn't the best team-up book I've ever read but it wasn't horrible. Basically BC helps these girls get out of a heist and they get tricked into submitting to a Blood Spell. Years later one by one they start dying, BC is next, and they need to find out how to stop it. So she turns to Zatanna. What I don't like is half the book is notes and some concept art and still has a pricetag of 22 bucks.

I read the first three volumes of The New 52 Birds of Prey, and... eh? The artwork starts off fairly lazily, although it improves dramatically in the third volume, and the story is perfectly serviceable. But I've read better team books.

I keep forgetting about this, but every time I see something about it I can't help but be interested. This is by far the best thing yet about it. |

But give us a Doctor Fate TV series of some kind already, dag nab it! |
So, allegedly DC actually IS planning more movies. Take with heavy salt:
