The only reason to keep these franchises ticking over is because big businesses have the mentality of small children. If they let copyright just...sit for x amount of time, it goes up for grabs again. This was a measure to stop the companies who were buying out copyright for things and just sitting on it. They had no interest in using the rights they had acquired, they just wanted to stop anyone else from using it. Now these things HAVE to be used, and there is only a several year window before the copyright is snatched from your grubby fingers and given to someone else. Something I'm guessing people like Fox and Sony don't dare do these days with the Marvel Movieverse behemoth cleaning house.

They're also probably trying to ride the big super hero wave right now and thus make more money

Oh yeah that too, that is why they're making ASM into a franchise with a continuity spanning across several films, and why a Fantastic Four movie is being smashed together out of paper and tape.

While critically, the Fantastic Four movies haven't been very popular, they have been commercial successes, which is what matters the most to film studios.

Just for reference sake her is the short list of what company owns what characters. I also believe that the word "mutant" can't be used by anyone but Fox. That effective marks off a lot of characters. I think that Spider-Woman could be used but I'm sure there is some fine print that would make Marvel avoid it.

I've been catching up with Guardians of the Galaxy (Bendis' run). I enjoyed the run before this and I'm enjoying this one too.

Does this mean that Marvel Studios can use Scorpion from Spider-Man? Because I loved the Ultimate Spider-Man version from the TV Show and would love him to be the villain in the Iron Fist show.

I really hope that sometime Flash will become Agent Venom in the movies.

Except DC thinks clocks are only good for clothing. Marvel has a bit more reliable sense of time.

Its yet another centerpiece on Wolverine while all the other potentially more interesting characters stay mostly in the background.

And is that all the background we get for Quicksilver? "I know a guy?" I know he's being shoved into this to spite the MCU edition but they could at least TRY, couldn't they????

Plus it really seems like everything from "First Class" has been swept under the rug, as if that movie's something to be ashamed of. Beast doesn't have fur, Xavier can walk and Magneto's in custody again.

I don't know why Charles is walking, but they do explain that the reason Beast isn't furry all of the time is because he developed and ingested a formula that allows him to stay in human form as long as he doesn't get worked up.
