Looks like a demonic samurai.
|
Love a good grimace face on my mecha.
|
|
FULL ARTICULATION?!?
What timeline are we living in?!? |
Having the faces on the shoulder seems a bit off as it looks like they would be obscured by the chest plate.

That hole or identation in the chestplate looks oddly familiar...
Is this compatible with the Alters? |
It looks so different from the flat suit we saw earlier. And yeah the articulation looks like way more than past DX releases.
|
It feels like it's been forever since I've seen such an unabashedly 'Super Sentai' mech! I think I'll like this design in action a lot regardless of whether it's a physical suit or CGI (though of course I have a preference for the former whenever possible). More than anything though, I do hope its eventual debut in the show will be treated as a big occasion of the team working in true unison for the first time!
|
Looks quite nice! I definitely dig it, and the fact that it's articulated is a nice bonus!
|
wow i love it to get it.
|
Gotta say, though. The shot of it in the background makes the Saru shoulder look incredibly ominous :lol
|
I see this and wonder how many super minipla employees they recruited to the toy department. :lolol
But looks amazing. |

The spine waist look too fragile like power ranger movie mecha of 2017.
|
I wonder what the cockpit will look like.
|
That's not right, modern DX mecha are supposed to look like shit!
Gotta say I'm impressed. The show suit looked so flat, but this looks actually badass. How did such a fart of a Sentai give us one of the best DX robo in years? |
Oh my goodness, that is beautiful. Do we know when preorders start???
EDIT: Nevermind, just grabbed it on Tokullectibles! Looks like May is gonna be a big Sentai toy month for me, between this and the Zenkaiser figurart. |

Sure, Modern DX Mecha don't look good, but the problem is that they have to impress. May seem counterintuitive, but the fact is that Modern DX Mecha have to leave an impression is to their detriment. Those impressions, typically, are birthed from having to include a gimmick/aesthetic part to get the toys sold. Older DX Mecha didn't really feel the need to include Gimmicks or aesthetic parts to get sold. Like how Daizyujin didn't need anything else. It didn't need Kyoryuger inclusion of Zyudenchis or the Lego-like Connections of Ryusoulger. It was just allowed to be Mecha that combined into a Robo. That's the problem with modern DX Mecha: They aren't allowed to just be Mecha. They need to become Crystals/rectangular Prisms like Kiramager, work with the Changer like Lupinranger VS Patranger, use specific collectables to combine with the other Mecha like Kyoryuger with the Zyudenchis, Ryusoulger with the Ryusouls, or Kyuranger with the Kyutamas, combine both the fact that they work with the Changer and are used in the Mecha combinations like the ToQResshas from ToQger, and so many other things. When the Mecha aren't allowed to just be Mecha and feel the need to include 3rd Modes or wierd gimmicks, they are able to be free to be good. The Last Series with Mecha that felt allowed to be a Mecha first and not include anything too drastic was Gekiranger. So, the fact that Don Onitaijin had permission to not be anything other than a Mecha allowed it to be good. Thus, when Sentai Mecha feel the need to be something else, like having 3rd Forms or somewhat intrusive gimmicks, it causes them to not feel good. |
The DX Don Onitaijin size is really big.
Maybe DX Don Onitaijin size (without swords on the back) is same size as DX Go-Buster-Oh. |

Also, this new mecha looks very interesting. Can't wait to see reviews. |

It was also on pre-orderable on Amazon.co.jp for close to retail.

I've literally never purchased a current Sentai mecha before, what places would carry this? Would HLJ have it?

Don Onitaijin looks awesome and I'm glad that it's a suit and not CG. (The CG for Don Zenkaioh is actually alright to be fair though. But still!) I hope he rolls up on a boat every time.
|
The DX toy looks great. It's gonna completely dwarf the Kiramager Robo.
Though the individual robots look a little rough. Especially Onisister. |

I hope we get a Minipla Don Onitaijin.

By all accounts, its a pretty 'standard' design for a Sentai robot, five things come together to make a new thing with multicoloured limbs. But I think the combination of the showing holding off on unveiling it until this point, and also the fact that the mecha in Zenkaiger were pretty unorthodox, that seeing Don Onitaijin in full, practical effect glory like this, is making me absolutely, disproportionately hyped. Like I really want this thing's debut to be the greatest thing I've ever seen!
That DX toy looks mighty impressive too o_o It's the most tempted I've ever been to own a Sentai mech... |

I suspect minipla Don OniTaijin will be pretty much redundant. The main draw of minipla for the last X years, aside from price point, has been articulation that's superior to the DX mecha, which have largely been bricks. The poses they've shown are a close-to-minipla level of articulation to begin with. At first glance, the initial promo image looked to me like Super Robot Chogokin. The minipla people aren't going to be able to improve substantially over this design. Other than alternate hands, I'm not sure what else it'll be able to offer.

There's a whole interview that goes into the creation process for Don Onitaijin. It's a fascinating read, going into the insights of Onitaijins creation as well as a bit of insight into past DX Sentai mechas
