Gekiranger 28-30
And so the last member of the Gekiranger team arrives. And he's hilariously awful. Not in a bad way though, he's in the running for one of my favorite members of the team already simply for the sheer amount of times he's managed to fuck up only to somehow make up for it in the end. This is GekiChopper and these are fis few intorduction episodes to the team. He was supposed to spend his time away from the team by training on sacred grounds and practicing his ability and what happens? He takes a vacation instead. He's entrusted to hold onto a sacred item that if fallen into evil hands can spell major disaster and what does he do? Sells it to an antique shop for cash which he apparently spends entirely, forcing him to bring Retsu along to pay for it back. He's admittedly lazy and doesn't seem to train. His first action when reaching Japan again is to steal some of Jan's snacks and interrupt the other Gekirangers in the middle of a fight with a semi-truck just to get them back. This guy is awful. The only thing he has going for him are his fighting ability which has a technique even the Kensei can't use and the fact that he does seem to care for people deep down. Other than that, this guy is hilariously awful. We do get some background on Bat Li and some of the stuff that happened to him during the Rinjyuken Rebellion. surprisingly in the flashback, he was still a batman. He has some sort of star crossed romance with this fortune teller chick, which turned out to be pretty nice in the end. And on the RinJyuKen side, Mele's accessed DoRinki from her anger of having to resort to dirty tactics to gain the magic sword thing form Ken. Mostly 'cause of that piece of shit, Long. I had to question this for a minute and from what I remember that does check out. Some of the Rinshi under her command may have resorted to some dirty tactics, which Mele doesn't seem to ind...but she does have pride in herself as a fighter. So when she lost, she was ready to play fair and square...until Long played the well Rio will hate you now card. So now Rio and Mele have the sacred sword and are about to go to the sacred grounds with the magic sword and train their DoRinki supposedly, which is all according to Long's plan. Ken may have lost the sacred sword, but he had to choose between it or trying to save his sister, so he made the right choice in the end. Of course as soon as Ran points out it was Mele's fault that he lost it and not his, Ken quickly absolves himself of any and all blame, despite selling the damn thing in the first place. What a shithead. |

Ken is a complete dick.
But he's funny :p |
I honestly thought I was going to hate Ken at first, but he really comes into his own. And that Christmas episode :lol

Gokaiger 23. Oh great Gold Mode is back. And come on now, that new Legendary Power is so lame.
It's tributes like these, that make me surprised people can justify with themselves in defending the tributes featuring a past Ranger simply bumming around when they could totally be helping. GoGo Pink may not be out on the streets fighting, but she was an EMT before she became a Ranger and now she's still helping people even without powers. Unlike a lot of others, she doesn't act like her out of suit skills somehow died when she lost her suit. So what is your excuse giant robot lion, government funded super powers, fire magic and super martial arts, hmmm? Luka and Ahim, the pirate lesbians. Jokes aside, the way this story paces the characters is great. Luka has always been shown to cuddle up to Ahim, and look after her, but the show never deliberately drew focus on it either. So now we actually do have an episode focused on this part of Luka, we can actually truly believe it was always a part of her character. The only frustration with the characters in this show, is that the amount of knowledge the Gokaiger have about the Earth, and the Super Sentai entirely depends on what the plot needs in that moment. So literally in almost a matter of seconds it feels like characters have completely changed as they start spouting about something or doing something they just couldn't have known a scene earlier. It's frustrating to watch. |
Locke, I'm not gonna say any specifics to avoid spoilers, but you should really finish Boukengers before you assume that the Boukenger powers are easily replacable. There's a lot of stuff in the end of that series that makes it pretty clear that that's not the case.

Things like the Legend War, big events like that, usually suspend whatever circumstances gave heroes their power so they can use them aagin, in cases like Boukenger. Or for like revived dead heroes like Abare Killer & Dragon ranger. It's generally assumed to be because of the concentration of Super Sentai spirit/bravery/courage/what have you that amazing things like this can happen. When the world truly needs it's heroes they return like for the Legend War. Or like when Gaoranger had the 25th anniversary and all 24 previous Red's appeared with their mecha. It's a team-up thing. Outside of that you just have to go with the flow that the powers are gone at a certain point. And with Boukenger, outside of special events like above, there's a reason for them to be gone. |
So they already built super powered suits once and now they can't replicate that at all and just use a different power source...right...
Even if we don't concentrate on Boukenger, there are still tons of other cameos that defy all reason and logic. You had that MagiRed fella with Flaggle showing he still had powers, but he's too busy stood around in a towel trying to look mysterious. You have GekiRed, the master martial artist as to what I am guessing is super human levels...bumming about. And even though the Power Lion exists to defend the planet, is still alive, as is his master is he trying to help fight off the invasion? LOL NOPE. It isn't even like it makes sense within its own story, someone said something silly like 'well the Rangers trust the Gokaiger to get the job done' or some shit, like okay? So that means the Rangers just sit on their hands? Well clearly not as you see the Goseiger and Gingaman Rangers still want to fight, you see the Deka Police people still doing their jobs, you still see GoGo Pink helping people. So all the cameos that feature passive Rangers taking up knitting or whatever they are doing while an invasion is literally happening around them is beyond the parameters of stupid. |

Same pamphlet mentioned that most of the mechs were trashed during the Legend War, so there's also that. |

Geki Red indeed has pretty amazing superhuman abilities but no ranger powers. Though SCRTC could probably easily make new Geki Changers for them. So that one I'll give you. But he's been travelling the world training martial artists since the defeat of Long anyway. It's his duty to guard that pendant he wears, which trust me if you knew what it was you'd understand why he doesn't get involved. It's the most deadly threat to the entire world probably in the entire franchise. Gaoranger is an entirely different story. After the finale, when all the Orgs were defeated and the Power Animals saved, they had to give back their powers to Tetom. They were to be sealed away unless they were ever needed again. Hence an actual proper explanation for why they were present in the Legend War. Their powers are ancient and mystically based but can only be used when needed to defend the world. But they were scattered with all the other heroes' powers at the end of the war. The Gaorangers don't have special abilities or anything outside of their suits. Kakeru has literally always ben a vet and that's about it. I mean sure Gao Yellow was a fighter pilot but come on :lol Quote:

Yes but why is Precious the ONLY power source, they can't use electricity? Or petrol? Or nuclear energy? I don't understand your argument, by their logic if they can build super suits in the first place they can find alternative fuel sources. That is the easiest part.
The magic is what I am talking about in MagiRanger, if they have magic powers then why aren't they fighting? They don't need spandex to fight, you clearly see Red and his partner can conjure flames? I'm pretty sure he'd be more useful in a fight than stood around trying to act deep. And speaking of GaoRanger, if the Power Lion is sentient and exists to guard the planet...why isn't it doing that? Sure it doesn't have a GaoRanger to buddy up with, but so what, it literally can't do shit until it has a GaoRanger? Well that can't be it as it helps the Gokaiger all the time, you think it would help the military perhaps? Actually while we're on that topic where are the military? The army is clearly something that exists in sentai, so why are they even being passive in this time of crisis? My wider point, is everyone acts like Gokaiger is an entry level series, but as expressed here as someone who has gotten most of their sentai knowledge through this show, it's done largely a pretty poor job of realising and explaining the worlds and stories it represents. You have all the answers because you've watched the shows, but it's up to the show, not your own knowledge, to convince you of the story they are presenting. |
Downloading AbaRanger episode 1 now! :D
I decided to just start over from episode 1, since all I ever saw were those crappy HK subs, and I felt it took away from the experience, so now I can watch it properly. :D |

Abaranger 1:
Wow...they kinda just throw you into the deep end, don't they? It's just suddenly everything's happening. One part that did bother me is that Blue and Yellow just grabbed the Dino Braces off of Emmy and the old guy's wrists...it's like...did they just know to grab them because of their Dino-guts? because it seemed like Asuka had to explain how to use them to the other two. There were also a few minor editing issues here and there. There were also some parts with some really weird pacing. Ryoga seems like a pretty cool guy. I find it interesting that the Bakuryus are sentient, which they weren't in Dino Thunder. Also, "Super Dino Mode" is not just something they can do by channeling their inner dinosaur? Alright. Another thing I found kind of funny was that Asuka was aware of the parallel earth or "Another Earth" as he called it. I am interested to see where this show goes, and I hope that some of this stuff gets explained, as well how Asuka gets his powers back. Also, it kind of bothers me that Imagination Station uses Times New Roman as their font for their subtitles, but that's a minor complaint. I'm just glad that someone finally decided to pick this show up and stick to it. :D |

And the Power animals requiring a Gaoranger to actually help would actually make sense, assuming that the Gokaigers using the full powered Gaoranger keys is enough for them to count as Gaorangers. After all, the lion only appears to help when the Gokaigers use the Gaoranger keys to summon it. |
Well everything I typed got erased. is there any way to stop the backspace button form actually sending you back? It's starting to piss me off. At any rate
Gekiranger 31-33 short version. 31 was the closest thing to a true filler and even that had some important bits. 32 was awesome seeing all the Kensei come together to fight (well, sorta). Maku's strength is no joke. We get the history of why the Kensei are in thsoe animal forms finally. It seems they had a lot in common with Gou except they sort of succeeded in their defeat of the Rin Jyuken users barely. Interesting that because of this technique, they're essentially punished to look like that. Not to mention, they're also barred form gaining the power of Brusa Li. Cool fight between the Gekirangers and Rin Jyuken users. Rageku has time travel kung fu?! And she just uses it now?! Ah well, she's pretty much cemented the Kenma's betryal of their pupils at this point. 33 was interesting. I know it makes sense for them to go to feudal Japan when they go back i ntime, but it's weird with the whole Kung fu theme. Nice that they focus on Ran's leadership skills this episode. Long continues his trend of getting uncomfortably close to Mele and Rio's faces. I love how the Gekirangers sort of insert themselves into the plot of 47 Ronin. And YES Geki Rin Touja! Always loved this thing. Glad it made a ocmeback sine I'm not a huge fan of GekiFire. And now with their combined victory the Jyuken users return to the sight of the sacred tree burning down. Wonder what happened... |

Just watched Kyoryuger episode 40. Great episode.
That school gang movie scene, Daigo was dressed up exactly like Gentaro/Kamen Rider Fourze, just one pompadour short. (Accidentally posted this in the Power Rangers thread, haha.) |
Finished up Go-Onger.
I thought the series was sort of 'meh'. I did like the mech's(*) and the G6, G9, and G12 combo's. And I liked how they also used them a lot uncombined after the G12 formation rather than just spamming it for the last 20 or so episodes. The three Gaiark Ministers were fun. They got some fleshing out particularly when one of their own got destroyed and they spent time mourning them. And some of the Banki monster of the week were funny. Though to be honest Kegalesia felt a bit out of place in the G3 Princess eps. Also felt like there wasn't very much in the way of cool suit actor stunt work. All in all for being a goofy series I felt it fell a bit short. * Is there a term for the Mecha in Sentai? Like how we would use the term Megazords to cover the giant robots in Power Rangers. |

Generally Robo or Kyodai (Giant) Robo. Mecha is also acceptable. Megazord was a term used in Go-Busters but generally only to refer to the Vagrass machines, not the Busters'. It would seem that for Go-Busters Vs Gokaiger the term Megazord was coopted to refer to the robo keys used to change into previous machines. But that's about it. Robo & mecha work in general for Sentai.

Ah, cool. Thanks!

For some reason it doesn't seem to have its own thread, but we watched the ToQGer vs Gaim special today and did Toei not have anyone who actually works on Gaim even write this thing? Kouta was completely out of character. Mai was even more useless than ever. And the villains were crap. THe ToQGers were just, ARGH!!! Annoying is the best way to describe it. I haven't watched ToQ since episode 4, but this made me not want to watch 5 and 6. However, like I said, the whole Gaim thing felt forced and no one seemed to be the way they are on the show. Then there is the whole appearance of Ichigo, NIgo, and V3. They were cool for the whole 30 seconds they appeared, but then the whole, "We don't help Heisei Riders" thing was also completely out of character. Yes, I know this special was meant to be hype up the VS movie, but it made them look like jackasses.
The only thing I can really give praise to was the awesome scene with Zangetsu on the phone as the mech battle was going on outside. That was hilarious but damn, the Yggdrasil building has some of the best sound and shock proofing ever. Everyone in the world should be using those materials. As a cross over, it was bad. As a ToQGer episode, it was bad. As a Gaim episode, it was terrible, the worst Gaim episode ever. The fights were subpar. The characters felt off, especially from the Kamen Rider side, and the fights were not even that good. I hope Toei never does something like this again. |
