G Gundam is not the black sleep because it didn't have those things. It had a ton of Gundam tropes in it. Anti-Hero in mask = Schwarz Bruder, Evil Orginization in Space = Neo Japan, Newtype = Super Mode, etc, etc. What makes it t5he black sleep is the genre change. Gundam is traditionally a space opera war drama while G was a opponent of the day tournament fighter. 8th MS Team is still very much a space opera war drama even if only one episode is in space.

There's already been two attempts at this. One was called SD Gundam Force and it sucked. The other is a doozy...See what I did there? :cool:

Anyways, the problem is Gundam is aimed at teens. In the US, that age group is still told to stop playing with toys. Gundam is reliant on toy sells, sadly. So if it's no marketable to the audience intended, they're more likely to change to an audience that will buy their toys, thus the US gets SD Gundam Force.

AKA Gundam 00 season 1. It had the problem of airing on late night Sci-Fi with little to no advertisement.






Meanwhile, I just finished Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040. It's okay. Still wondering why it's called Bubblegum Crisis and not Knight Sabers. Seriously, what's bubblegum have to do with anything? That's all I got to say. An okay anime from the late 90's.

US didn't even get all of SD Gundam Force. We got like, 1 season, then end.

Same with Zoids Fuzors. Seems to be a thing with American funded animes made to sell toys.

We did get a lot of Gundam aired here in the US after Wing aired. We got G Gundam, 8th MS Team, 0080, 0083, Mobile Suit Gundam, Gundam Seed, Gundam 00, etc. It was a good run. It would be nice if some of the kids networks reaired a few of those to get the kids into Gundam. Maybe one day other series will be brought over but I can understand why they aren't buying a lot of the new stuff. I would like to see more Macross come over first.

There is a difference between dated and classic. It's a fine line but a lot old anime with that style were done so well that they hold up today. Sure, they are 4:3 instead of 16:9 but a lot of anime from the 90's hold up better than any live action stuff in terms of the look.



But that isn't what Gundam is about in those universes. It isn't like Gundam pilots don't max out their suits in every show. They aren't super robot shows as they are just meant to be the latest military tech but still fall within the same guidelines as the other suits they fight.

Watched episode six of G-GUNDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAM now I'm in from my first shift.

So now the story really IS moving. But eh, I'm getting pretty tired of these ridiculously elaborate plans for fairly simple goals, all it does is bog down the tension and create a false sense of mystery because they clearly don't have enough faith in the show to think they can intrigue you any other way, it's Black all over again.

And as ever the action is epic, the Gundam designs are ugly. I think the Dragon Gundam is the only design I've really liked in this show so far. I also laughed hard at Domon going super saiyan.

I don't even understand, Devil Gundam? Why? When they kept saying that I expected some bright red Gundam with like a pitchfork, a big cape and massive horns. No wonder they changed the name in the dub. All the other names have fit fine though.

Plus, I know this show is ridiculous anyway, but it seemed almost too far for me to have the main villain Gundam have the same powers as Majin Buu. Especially as these sorts of devices usually end up having the writers write themselves into a corner.

Have you guys seen all of the Bandai license rescues they have done? They got things like a BD release for Cowboy Bebop, then there is Code Geass, Escaflowne, Outlaw Star, My-Hime, and several others series.

Oh, and Sentai Filmworks have also saved other series like Big O.
