Nintendo isn't just Pokemon's distributor. It holds part of the copyright, too.

And would a movie based on the games' story really be that interesting? I think an original story would do them well (And wouldn't be as picked apart as a story based on the games :lol)

How would a live action Pokemon movie even work? There is too much to adapt from. If they stick with only the games, casual people will be confused on why there is no Ash. If they adapt from the anime only, fans of the games will hate it. If they do a original story similar to Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, fans will hate it. Not to mention the budget for a Pokemon live action film would cost millions to do it right.

We wouldn't be angry, but the kids who actually watch it might be.

Kids and casual people that grew up with the show like Ash. I can imagine them going "Where is Ash?!" if they make Red into the lead role for a Pokemon live action movie.
