So I'm watching Greco again. And its not as bad as when I first tried it. not great, but not entirely bad.
Fuck everyone who defended it. Not for anything that the series does, but because any time I saw someone defend it, they were being absolute douchebags and can all go eat shit. Tomino's trolling is fine with me too. He can make what he wants and that's perfectly fine with me. |
So I just watched the first episode of Iron Blooded Orphans and it was fantastic. The plot was a little too fast paced to establish too much, but hopefully next episode can delve a bit more into some parts without trying to hook people immediately.
I'm really interested in the world so far. What do the implants in all these kids' backs do to help them pilot the workers? What is Gjallarhorns' motives and goal? What was going on in that flashback? What even was the great war they were referencing, what even is the Gundam? And yes, the no shirt in the cockpit thing we saw in the trailers is actually part of the plot of the show not just to show some sexy man abs. And despite the some of the main characters having that Gundam Age aesthetic to them, the main character and Orga have nice deep voices. I felt like there were lots of little callbacks to other Gundam shows in this opening episode. The flashback was very 00-ish(plus the whole child solider thing). McGillis monolouging on his ship kinda reminds me of Zechs chillin' in space in the beginning of Gundam Wing. And some 8th MS team in there with groundedness. Something I did not expect, however, was the mobile workers to be much, much smaller then the size of the MSes. I mean, it's just sad to see this maybe 7 foot tall metal box with guns go up against a 60 ft war machine. Can't wait for next week's episode. obviously I'm not gonna stay up until 3AM for every episode but damn it, this show is good so far. |
Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans Episode 1: Well this is my first time watching Gundam in a long time (I haven't watched it since Gundam Wing). The previews of this interested me a lot. I was right I enjoyed this a lot. Orga and Mika remind me a lot of Worick and Nico from Gangsta. That’s really cool because I like characters like that. A duo of a leader and a guy who gets things done. I enjoy Mika’s strength and determination and Orga’s courage too. I am intrigued with Aina as well and her wanting to learn about the Third Corps pain. The battle was awesome and I love this new Gundam too, it looks awesome. I am enjoying the politic nature of this as well and seeing what goes on here. Well I definitely enjoyed it and I can’t wait for more.

I haven't really followed any news about this series since it's initial announcement so a lot of the context was lost of me here. Hopefully things will be clarified a bit better in future episodes but there was at least enough here to follow what was going on.
And I liked it a lot! The art was great, the characters all very likeable and the setting interesting. I thought G-Reco was good at first so I'm gonna stay very wary for now, but I at least like what I saw here. |
Wow, that was heart-pumping. I enjoyed it!

I went to watch it on Info and it said it wasn't available in my country :lol

There's some strange copyright BS reason for why Gundam.info blocks simulcasts in the US except for Build Fighters (BF got by on a loophole of being Gunpla rather than Gundam). Other countries are blocked in similar ways and it appears Gundam.info can only simulcast to Asia and sometimes Australia. |

I thought the episode was off to a slow start, as it wow, that was absolutely fantastic. I love the real world militaristic approach it's taking and just as I thought: The soundtrack is bloody awesome, I can't wait for the OST to be released

Watched the first episode as well. I’m no Gundam-person, only watched Build Fighters Try and the first few episodes of Recogusta … Recogniesta… Recogablesta… Recobeshista… this stupid shit show, you know what I mean.
And well, this was way better than this Reco shit. As it seems to be tradition in Gundam I as the viewer am thrown into the cold water and people talk about stuff I don’t understand, but hey… tanks, explosions, excitement. They didn’t drop me as hard as Reco did, only a few sentences here and there, but I still feel like this show needed 5 minutes of narrated text to begin with. Which would be boring as hell, but at least I wouldn’t feel like I don’t understand stuff. And I’m pretty sure this will never lead to an “Oh, wait that’s what they were talking about in the last episode”-moment because I won’t remember. The characters are… nice I guess, didn’t had enough time to form an opinion yet. The action was decent, nothing spectacular; I guess that starts when we see the Gundam in action. Which probably won’t happen for another three episodes or so since I’m sure after beating the one bad guy at the end of this episode the other two will retreat within the first minute of the next episode and that’s it. Guess I continue watching. |

for a first episode it was pretty good.
definitely good with setting up that there's come conflicts among martians and younger generations. and I kinda like those direct access things on the backs of the pilots. I had an idea for this in a code geass fanfic I made way back in the day but I like that someone else has the idea. really loving the mobile suit designs and the more simple plot with exposition. still gonna try to get through greco but IBO is certainly off to a good start. |
Liking what I see in Iron-Blooded Orphans, but the spear weapon is the only major detracting point I have of the Gundam design so far. Hope this princess is better than Peacecraft.
|
it's not really a spear so much as it is a mace.
and I like it. I want more heavy metal objects crushing mobile suits. |
I liked it, I love the OP song to, unless the Credits song ends up being the main ED theme, but yea. I'm use to gundam shows being off to a slow start, but it does get me pump for future episodes.

Soooo anyone else have a mighty need for that HG Barbatos now?

if it's fine with Stefanie Joosten, then it should be fine for everyone. |
I like the setting so far, it's going for a really gritty style so far, but at least it's well handled and the art is pretty dang good, I love how MS are rare so far, as the mobile workers give the battles an unique style.
Does raise the question, why would the higher ups just leave the Barbatos behind? Their forces are clearly made mostly of Workers, the Barbatos might be incomplete and given how the pilot looked at the end it might not even be safe, but it must have been expensive as hell. Unless somehow it was built in secret by the main cast. Quote:

Thanks for the info. |
I don't understand a substantial part of the episode, but I gathered that Barbatos was kept as a secret by the Third Group. :lol I am very possibly wrong.

In the beginning it was emphasised that Barbatos' holding room was a restricted area. That's why I thought it was a secret, like a wild card for the group. |
I'm also under the impression that it wasn't fully combat ready either.

Does Barbatos have a beam rifle? Because I see the hammer as his only weapon shown.

http://www.gundammodelkits.com/wp-co...-image-101.jpg It looks like a scavenged Rifle from the mobile worker but I could be wrong. |
I think that IBO might just have on of the best first episodes I've seen in Gundam. The art is great, the mecha deigns are awesome (I love those tanks make up the primary force instead of it being all MS), the characters seem likable, and the story has a lot of potential. I am now very eager to see this show through to the end. And I have an overwhelming urge to army-build Mobile Workers.
|
Forgive my ignorance, but what is IBO?
