Did everyone ignore my show request post? :(
|
We did it specifically to annoy you.
|
Why? :(
|
Quote:
|
Because you don't like W.

;-; Go watch Den-O or watch the first movie War with W.
There. Recommendation. |
I'd suggest Blade.
The only time I felt that series dragged was during the Mutsuki plot. Ryuki would also be a good series. |

So KRDL lists loads of external crap, what do I need to have watched before episode one? And how do all these movies, anime and colour coded episodes fit in?
I'll also look into Blade! I have no interest in Ryuki. |
Quote:
And why not? I'm not suggesting it because you like KRDK. I'm suggesting it because it's a good show. |

Literally, the show spends an entire episode setting up the plot for the movie. Quote:
Well, if you can ever get past that certain barrier, do try to give it a shot. |
Quote:
And I'll chalk Ryuki up to another 'I will watch it, eventually' Rider show. |
have you seen Kabuto yet?

So I checked out Blade 01 - it was okay, seemed like a lot of Kamen Rider shows mushed together rather than its own unique show and so much was crammed in it was kinda hard to follow at times. That said it was nice to see villains actually do some damage again and I do appreciate the tech sciencefictiony Rider shows more than I do the fantasy ones. I've always been a massive science fiction geek but never really got into fantasy. The Rider suits were kinda bland but it was very action packed so at least it wasn't boring. Also wow, a journalist character who isn't a scumbag? Or is he just another scheming maggot trying to get in his good graces to fuck him over? |
I actually forgot Kenzaki was a journalist.
But yeah, Kenzaki is the farthest from a scumbag. |
Watched Den-O 01 as well, wow the production values on this really weren't great which is a problem when your show seems to be so fantastical. But I can't hate on a show with a big imagination, just a shame this is wasted with so much goofiness. That main Rider was also really fucking annoying.
That said the Devil dude is fucking badass and sword form was cool as hell because he took over but his brief fight for like a minute at the end of the episode didn't really save it for me, I think I'll stick with Blade. |

Just look at my signature. |
Ryoutaro (the rider himself) starts out a bit pitiful, but he nuts up. Momo is really the star, and each new Imagin just makes the show more interesting. Plus Momotaros is always the rider, so Den-O's always badass in his rider form.
Also the production values for the first few episodes are not indicative of the series overall. For some reason the first three or so episodes look really weird. If you watch the show in HD it's actually quite nice. |
Just watched Ultimatum and those obvious fanservice is pretty annoying. Maybe that's why we only have Female Riders in movies
|
I'm about to watch Ultimatum, but I'm kinda dreading it if it's as bad as you guys are making it sound.
Well, this English-speaking actor isn't as terrible as the usual ones. But it's still never easy to believe that the language barrier doesn't exist at all. Oh hey, it's the chick from the Fourze movie. It actually seems that the entirety of this Fourze section is ridiculous. I don't know if any complaints I have about it would be valid with how tongue-in-cheek the whole thing feels. Oh my, the way that they have actual human eyes on Saburo's kaiju form is actually really creepy cool. And yep, it turns out that the twirling ass choreography is completely tasteless, as twirling ass choreography is wont to be. Can we take a moment to appreciate how quickly that went from Gentarou giving up Fourze to Inazuman to random villain out of nowhere destroying Yuuki's shuttle to Nadeshiko to random villain being ignored for about ten minutes to casual Fourze Driver sharing? Because I think pacing like that needs appreciation. |

I watched in HD and I still thought it looked horrible. The shitty filters on the clouds, the horrendous PS2 cut scene sequences with the DenLiner, the jerky editing to do the effect where he opens the door and he is in the other world (literally next to the door so it's clearly in shot is a reflection of a man walk past, who suddenly skips back and walks past for a second time). |
Man, I always thought Ryotaro was pretty impressive right from the beginning.
I mean, here's a guy that the world is constantly trying to kill. All of creation just looked at Ryotaro Nogami and was like 'nope, this guy's gotta die' and started throwing every contrived coincidence of bad luck it could at him. And Ryotaro just takes it. Nothing can break this guy's will. |

So Den-O 02, wow Momo is based on Ryo's childhood hero? That is...disturbing, I don't care what he says, I think he's cool. Overall it was a pretty fun episode, I grew some more respect for Ryo then the none I had originally but it's just a shame that the special effects are so bad. Also we have villains who actually kill again, yay! Still...didn't this Imagin die last episode? Why is he back again? And as cool as the Imagin's past rampage was, why would his rampage committed three years ago just play out in the present? If we assume the past has been changed then surely that stuff would have been fixed in three years. I know it's time travel so there are no rules but this seems kinda dumb. Kinda weird that me and the thug have vaguely similar pasts, I'm pretty sure I am a better actor though. I was really jealous of what Ryo gave him at the end. So this is gonna be another one of those 'save the asshole of the week' kinda shows? |

Part of Den-O's charm comes from the Imagin and the Den-Liner cast.
Ryotaro does man up later on through the manifestation of his final form. Blade is still a wonderful series to stick with, though! |

Especially as I had just seen Kuuga and am watching through Fourze who really set themselves apart a lot more. |
It's funny you say that, because I'd seriously compared Den-O to Fourze than I would OOO or Wizard. Den-O has that same sort of... child-like endearment and great characters (I'd personally say it has BETTER characters) and is the first series I recall that really went nuts with form changing. And I also think it's one of the best users of this now common-place concept. I don't think Den-O ever had OOO's amount of forms, but I think the series before it was Kabuto where he had, I think, just a final form later on.
Plus, Den-O is the only show to have the rider go from absolute zero "can't even put the belt on right the first time" to actual hero and friend to all children by the end. I didn't like Ryoutaro at first, (I didn't spell his name right until I was almost done the show) but by the time things were said and done I actually quite missed him. Plus once the other forms and Imagin show up it REALLY sets itself apart. Quote:
Also Den-O isn't "asshole of the week" because the people aren't usually assholes or the focus. Their memories are but I think one episode we never even heard the one-off speak. I think really only the first guy was an actual jerk. Everyone else was legitimately in a spot. |
I guess I'll give Den-O one more episode to impress me then.

Still, I get what you're saying. They relied way too much on CGI (though unless a new train showed up they basically dropped it. Spoiler alert, that's all the big CGI monsters are there for) and because the first episode's rules of time were utterly bonkers. (A building's supports destroyed a year ago only collapses in present day because...? Was it standing without any support for a full year?) Something they also changed to BTTF fade-aways when stuff changed instead of somehow the effect to the cause being delayed however long the Imagin was in the past. |

And to be fair I actually liked Den-O a bit better honestly but Blade actually looked like it was doing something different which Den-O didn't at all, even if the clichés weren't clichés at this point. But yeah it is a problem when your show rests on time travel and it doesn't actually try to have any logic and sense to its time travel. I know stuff like this always causes problems but Den-O doesn't seem to have common sense in the first place. |
Den-O actually tries something rather unique with time travel. And I mean really unique. It's a very metaphysical approach to time and what it means to people's memories. It's not your typical made-up science-y explanation.
It absolutely applies a certain logic to it's time travel. Like I said, the first outing to the past is not a good example of how the show treats Time Travel. Also like I said, I almost didn't watch it because of how it was handled, but it's never done like that again. I think the only reason they did it like they did was so that they could have the imagery of buildings and mass destruction to shock Ryoutaro into action. It has common sense... it just didn't want to use it at first for some reason. |
Well I'm working through episode three now to see if it changes my mind. Which turned out to be completely bland, meh, Blade it is.
So after Fourze gave a great story focused episode...35 returns to crap. I mean the Chairman's End Game is in motion as the show clearly states but oh well, pirate radio! A random JK focused episode on the final leg of the series...great... Checked out Blade 02 to make sure I wasn't making a mistake and this was a great episode. I love the idea that they capture the monsters they defeat in cards for attacks, I love villains that actually have a threat level and I love evil Riders. The action sequences are pretty impressive for an older series and that third Rider had a really cool design, even if we're back to Kamen Rider gibberish. The only real problem I have is they picked so many males with similar faces and haircuts I have a hard time telling who the hell is who in some scenes. |
