I cannot here the word "Destiny" without thinking of this girl. Especially when it is in a Japanese accent. |
Gundam Seed: The Empty Battlefield
I think you guys know that I have a big hatred of the Cosmic Era universe without ever seeing it, so I decided to see it myself. Fair warning: I haven't seen the second half of this movie yet since I need to do homework but I want to talk about it anyways It's okay so far. Considering the first part of the movie is a copy and paste of the destruction of Side 7 with more character and suits, it's fine. I was confused about that big colony that was destroyed after the Archangel was drifting. Good god this series has shitty animation and art. The characters all look super cutesy for no reason and every character running or trying to fire a gun feels awkward. Everyone has big eyes and it feels hard to tell emotion. The English voices don't help either. While Kira, Athrun and what's her name Captain have good voices Flay and Lacus' annoy the shit out of me. Especially Flay, it is so god damn weird to hear this cute voice saying all of this threatening shit to everybody. As for mobile suit designs, those Zaku like things are pretty cool. And I feel much more comfortable with the Strike Gundam's design now. But the fact that Athrun's Gundam turns into a giant laser thing is weird. |

I actually have no issue with the first SEED series. The story is pretty good when you just sit down and watch it. The Gundam designs are cool to and it makes a good remake of the original series.
Character wise though, I hate Flay. God I hate Flay. She is the absolute worst person in the universe. |

Yeah, that's the only thing I know her for lol. |

Let see... she's the daughter of the Atlantic Federation's Vice Foreign Minister George Allster, Sai Argyle's arranged fiancée, and was a technical college student aboard the space colony Heliopolis before it's destruction. She also hates Coordinators (not helped by the fact they destroyed her home) viewing them as monsters with no right to live and pretty much goes full on psycho once her father's ship is destroyed in a skirmish within Earth's orbit which she blames on Kira for not being fast enough to defeat the ZAFT mobile suits. She then becomes a self serving and manipulative bitch in order to further her own personal vendetta against the coordinators using Kira as her sword and shield... shall I go on? :) |

Gundam SEED the empty battlefield Part 2
I feel bad for Mu La Flaga since he's not getting recognized as the other important pilot on the ship. Flay used Kira's sad emotions to get sex from him. Don't guys usually do that? *Gets booed* But seriously, that's an interesting turn and I'm okay with the writers recognizing that this situation can happen between either gender in this bad relationship. But one question... how the fuck did anyone not notice when kira and Flay were doing it? I know the rest of the ship was supposed to be asleep but you'd think they'd check on everyone every few hours. I'm actually liking the Blitz Gundam a bit more. AND....SEED mode. I like the dilation of the eyes it gives Kira, but other then that I knwo nothing about it. The desert part was okay.... This movie: Okay. I'm warming up to the Gundam designs a bit more but it hasn't drawn me into the SEED universe. Hell, they didn't even explain the difference between coordinators and naturals. |
Gundam Wing 2 and 3: I'm glad I stuck with this one. Even if it's not the best Gundam series, I can see why it's a classic. The dub is sometimes wonky ("Don't use the machine guns, shoot it down!"), but that just adds charm. Heero's practically anime Chuck Norris, Relena's dumb as can be ("That's it! He's so secretive because he has lots of secrets!"), and Zex's voice is awesome. Not exactly strong character traits, but it's still a really fun show.

Macross 7: That one Macross sequel that leaves the real robot aspect for a while and focuses on a music band fighting space vampires with the power of rock and roll.
Yeah... it's odd. To be fair while that is the usual synopsis, the show has more than that, the UN is the main fighting force, and the "space vampires" are simply an alien race that for the biggest part also fights using Valkyries, so the usual humans vs aliens story is there, and Fire Bomber (the music band) ultimately ends up as a neutral force in the conflict, a pacifist group that doesn't shoot at either side but simply sings in an attempt to stop the battles. And in that sense, it's quite promising, for once we have a genuinely pacifist protagonist in a mech show, Basara does not shoot, and learning that his valkyrie is loaded with live rounds was enough to enrage him, likewise the setup is interesting with the clash of interest between the regular military, Fire Bomber and the civilians themselves. But Macross 7 is incredibly formulaic, every episode more or elss tarts with the band practicing a song, going to a concert, the Protodevlin attacking and Basara flying out in his plane to sing. While there are enough developments to keep the plot moving the format itself rarely changes. And the characters don't change much either with the exception of Gamlin and arguably Mylene. Macross 7 is what I'd call an "acquired taste", music has always been essential to the franchise, and pacifism is a recurring trope in mecha shows, so in this case the njoyment comes mostly from how fond are you of the ideas over the execution, because in the end you stick with the show because of the rpemise and not the developments. Also, every single one of Basara's songs are huge ear worms, it's an amazing soundtrack. Shingetsutan Tsukihime: Hey, it's that Tsukihime adaptation that it's suppsoedly so bad that most people say it never existed. Is it that bad? Not really. Is it good? Not by a long stretch, but the shortocmings come from different aspects that what I had been told. Adpatations are interesting, in japan the y tend to be more or less direct translataions of the original source, the same story told in a diffent medium, while in the western world we are more used to adaptations that drastically altere events or are mostly based on general ideas rather than an specific narrative, so once you add to that the fact that Tsukihime was originally a visual novel with 5 different routes you get an interestign result. Shingetsutan is not a direct adaptation of Arcueid's route, as is common with VN adaptations it takes elements from all the stories, but in something that surprised me, it also changed a lot and added original elements, the characters develope differently and have new personalities and motivations, some of their roles like in the case of Nrvnqsr or Satsuki are drastically changed, and in all honesty, the way they set the events and organize the content is a pretty brillaint way to tell the story of Tsukihime, this is a different take on the story, their take, but it's organized on a great way. The problem is not a matter of the order or the changes, but rather the way the scenes are prioritized, filler can be long, silences are extended and as a result the more improtant parts get very little screen time, specially confrontations, and that's mostly due to the animation. This show has some of the worst animation I've seen in my life, movement is incredibly limited, and it ues every single trick in the book to avoid showing it, whether it is focusing on distant objects while characters talk, long shots, still images, this show does not want to move, and asu such the only scenes that are shown somewhat consitently are conversations, anything that involves action is downright terrible and almost impossible to recognize. So it's the kind of show that can do good setup, but it's terrible at concluding it, and everything just screams low budget, giving the feeling that even the studio had low expectations on it and tried to paly it safe. Shingetsutan is a bad show, but it's not aobut the way they adapted the story but rather due to the production values, which is a shame, since in all hoensty, I liked the way they tried to tell the story. |

BTW as someone who has watched the first Fate Stay anime who can tell me why it's disliked as well? I'm guessing it could be the liberties taken with the story or how ham fisted the Rin/Sakura plot was resolved during Caster's last battle, but if anyone can narrow it down for me I would be grateful seeing as the Nasuverse is BIG on lore. |
Quote:
I dunno, personally I always felt it had a slow pace in the beginning but as a whole it was enjoyable, though it does seem that most of the dislike nowadays comes from those that experienced Zero first. |
Mobile Suit Gundam Trilogy
Not all that bad. The pacing was a weird and either The Origin re-arranged scenes or the movies did because somethings happened sooner then I remembered. Also the animation seemed really shaky at times. I will say though that I do not like how crazy it got with the newtype stuff by the end though. Seriously, less psychicy stuff and more giant robots beating the hell out of each other. Other then those things they weren't half bad films. Char's Counter Attack This movie was fucking awesome. Seriously this was amazing. I wish it would have explained what happened to Fraw, Sayla, Hayato, Kai, and the kids but I won't get too whiny about that. The animation was great and the battles were simply beautiful. As for the new characters, they weren't all that bad. Quess though...yeah, she got annoying, a lot. But I can tolerate her a bit more than I can Releena. Overall though I freaking loved this movie. I pretty much like all of the Gundam shows, OVAs, and movies I've seen so far, but the list of ones I absolutely love has only been a party of two. Char's Counter Attack has become the third entry on the "Entries I Love" list. |
The Origin?
I thought CCA was freaking awful though. It was long, boring, and did not even have a real ending. BTW, if you want to know what happened to Fraw, the kids, and gang, you need to watch Zeta. |
Quote:
Ehhh I'll give you that the ending is practically nonexistent. I didn't really find it boring though. Ahhhh, I suppose I'll put that on my to watch list. |
I think Avengers Disk Wars' "Crossbones was Hawkeye all along" was the most obvious reveal I've come across in a long while.
It was still awesome though. |
I'm rewatching the Gundam 00 Movie for probably the 15th or so time I've watched it since I first bought it at the FYE in the Orange Park mall :lol.

Rewatching 08th MS Team.

So it appears that the next DBZ movie will be about Frieza coming back.

Really interested in how that's going to be handled, because Frieza is anything but a believable match for Goku now. Beerus appears to be returning as well, of course. I did actually like how Goku basically gained an ally at the end of Battle of Gods rather than an enemy, and seeing him not forgotten is nice. Also, the poster has something else odd in it: the symbol on Goku's gi. Maybe it's Beerus' or Whis' and he's been training under one or both? |
The poster also has Krillin without hair though.
I wouldn't be surprised if Beerus is only in the movie as a flashback to him giving Freeza orders. |

So I checked out the first two episodes of Viz's new dub of Sailor Moon (FYI, Viz did a great job here and it's far superior to... *sigh* that OTHER dub!) so I'll just talk about them it for a bit.
I had seen the first episode several times before with... *sigh* that OTHER dub! and holy shit where do I even begin? You know, it really is bad when the major problems with your show can be spotted in the first six minutes... fortunately this show had none, it only made the poor editing of the first translation all the more noticeable when compared to the original. One of my major problems with the show at first was the character of "Molly" so naturally when Usagi's best friend Naru showed up I feared for the worst... however, the only reaction I had was DIC! WHAT DID YOU DO TO THIS CHARACTER!!! Molly was fucking annoying as all god damn hell and, while I get that she was rewritten to be less critical and more "supportive" of Serena when she messes up, truth is that's not what she ended up being as she came off as a completely inconsiderate, materialistic and ear bleeding annoying nit wit! Naru on the other hand? She is so much better as her choice in voice actor and direction makes her far easier to listen to and the overly critical way she's written makes her even more supportive as it shows her concern for her best friend saying stuff like "Can't you see she's upset? Not like she's failed any worse than usual." instead of the oh so classic and thought provoking "She can't study right now! She needs to go to the mall!"... Really DIC?... Really? -_- Anyway, that's my rant on what the fuck wads over at DIC did to what was supposed to be a likable and well written character so without further delay, on to point two, that being episode two... which is a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT episode two from that OTHER dub. Yeah, to my surprise the original dub skipped over the second episode and just went onto episode three leaving the actual episode two in the dust. Though needless to say I can kind of understand why after seeing a certain scene that I shall not repeat but come on DIC! You could have edited it out right? Just like you did with Usagi's younger brother and all of what made the original show great... right? So yeah, in conclusion if you are wanting to watch Sailor Moon in english dub form go with this new version that faithful translates the original show and let us please all just forget about... *sigh* that OTHER dub! |
