The Liger is kinda mediocre given how tiny and expensive it is. Its pretty much an overpriced Robot Spirits.

I use 3 external flahses. Space helps a lot but it's not as important as people might think. Black backgrounds are actually created from the absence of light and not the black background itself necessarily. It helps in darkening the background but the key is to make sure your light drops off before it reaches the background and to only light your subject. This is my setup

I see. I might need to invest in an external flash. It's hard to control the light when I'm just using two lamps and I probably need more space between my subject and the background to get better black backgrounds. Thanks!

You can start out with just 1 flash and learn from there, thats what I did. I use a YN-560 III, which is only about 60-70 dollars. It's got a built in receiver so all you will need is a transceiver on your camera (like 13 dollars) to have off camera functionality.
