It's a variety of reasons, really. I think the brushables are kept as a compromise because hair brushing has always been a play feature of My Little Pony. Hasbro lately seems to be catering to the fan side of things with their Blind Bag figures (which are becoming increasingly more accurate), but even that isn't perfect yet.

First: Blind bags and minifigures. Pretty screen accurate (Though the Cutie Mark is only on one side).
Secondly, the larger toys are still just dolls. The hair brushing thing may be considered them continuing the norm, but that's just how things go.
Also, you must remember a few things. First is that Hasbro treats Transformers as one of it's top brands, and they're willing to sink a lot more money into it. MLP:FiM was a surprise hit, with the brand not lying dormant per se, but was never given precedence and only given a few direct to video movies making up the G3.5 era (If I recall correctly). With FiM, I really don't think Hasbro wanted to pour money into making screen accurate and detailed toys.

At the rate things are going, MLP will take over Transformers as a top brand. Hasbro better prepare to cater to a wider demographic for MLP. That said, they have taken pretty good steps so far with some of the collector-oriented stuff.

I don't think so. MLP is popular, but I think I see and read more "I'm not buying anything until they make them more accurate" than anything else, meaning that it's toy presence is still pretty much just little girls, the primary demographic (While I know TFs primary sales come from young boys, considering the over abundance of Transformer collecting sites, I'm inclined to believe that adult collectors still make up a decently sized chunk).
While I don't doubt that MLP will become one of Hasbro's top brands alongside TFs and Nerf, I don't see it shadowing them anytime soon. It has one popular show, yes, but the older fanbase is more interested in the fan made items, not the officially produced stuff (And, unlike 3P TFs, the MLP fan stuff don't cost more than a MISB G1 Overlord :lol)

Haha I guess you're right. I'm speculating based on how dismal Transformers seems recently, with a much reduced output of product compared to before.

You did make a point about bronies not buying a lot of product. It's not something I see changing too soon either, casual bronies just don't feel that excited about the merchandise.

Just because you don't like a series doesn't mean it's doing poorly. That's something everyone must remember.

And those vinyl figures from Hot Topic are ok. I think it's because while there are a lot of bronies, much like transformers, we don't make up a large enough percentage for them to make stuff like that a mass release.

And Hot Topic is catering to the Brony community. It's fairly obvious considering the venue (You know, Hot Topic), the characters (Most popular mane 6 and most popular background pony), and, you know. Hot Topic.

And while adults don't make up a large percentage of either market, I'm fairly positive the adult market for Transformers greatly dwarfs the bronies.

Can said plushies break apart into cool, posable robots, that can also transform into vehicles? I didn't think so
